hi my name is Brian O'Neill Hughes I'mone of the product managers on thePhotoshop team today I'd like to giveyou a sneak peek of just some of whatwe're working on here in our labs wehaven't released this yet but we wantedto give you an idea of what we're up tohere's an image we shot for a client andit looked great when we took it but inlooking at it a little more closely nowwe realize that we've got some lensflare here and there a couple of piecesof trash on the ground of course this isthe one they've chosen for print so werealized that we really need to give itsome scrutiny and clean up some of thetrash and the distracting elements inthe image they've also asked that we goahead and remove this tree in theleft-hand side of the image because theywant to put text and a logo up there andthey don't want it to conflict with thebackground so we have a lot of workahead of uslet's first look at some tools that wehave available to us right now in cs4Spot Healing Brush is a really greattool but if I were to try to use it onsomething like thisyou see I pick up artifacts from thebackground and if I try to cross ashadow like this right here same thingdoesn't really behave the way I wouldlike it to so you'll notice that we havea new content to wear option here and Ican come through here and we can justpull these out really quickly and easilydon't have to spend a lot of time justclick on the area and we're making amuch better guess about the informationsurrounding that area so I can comethrough here and clean up those divotsin the grass and I can even come down tothis tricky area with the shadow pullthat leaf out really quickly and easilyover here take that out of that out ofthere and even clean up this area rightthere now when it comes to areas likethis lens flare right here let's take acloser look at that if you've ever triedto remove this manually you know this isreally time-consuming and problematicbecause you essentially have to go inand stitch the fabric and build thebench change the color and tone of itreally difficult I'm going to click thedelete key and you see that I now have acontent-aware fill option and reallyreally quickly that's exactly what we'vedone there I can do the same thing downhere in the lower corner where we havesome lens flare just make a looseclick delete and we'll fill in that areanow let's talk about that tree this isgoing to be a little tougher and to makeour jobs somewhat easier let's crop theimage a little bit give it a little morebalance see we've got a nice rule ofthirds overlay there ok so that's alittle bit better sure enough we have alittle bit of a flare coming off the Sunthere but we can patch that up now whenit comes to the tree I already made aselection it's not a perfect selectionjust intended to save a second here andall I'm going to do is load that andjust click delete and let content-awarefill chew through that and remove thattree for me something that would takeforever and ever if I were to do thatmanually it'd be really tough to balancethe sky so in just a single click of themouse we got it really far with that Ican reselect that area choose to cleanit up a little bit more by runningcontent-aware fill on it and you can seereally quickly we've removed our lensflare we've taken a bunch of trash offthe ground we've removed a couple ofpoles and we took out that whole treelet's just go back and look at what westarted with there pretty dramaticdifference before and after look anotherexample of what we could do here here'sanother image this one for website andthey like the wide format of the imagebut they've asked us for an image withand without the road now of course wedon't have that we only have the one ofthe road that we drove out on but let'ssee what content aware fill can give ushopefully a starting point where we justhave desert and then we can go back andtune that up a little bit so we're justgoing to let it choose that Road and puta desert over there excellent greatstart in fact looks really really nicewe'll just go around touch that up a bitand we'd be done last example I want toshow you I've got five images from thesame trip I've made a panorama of them Ilove the image I love the sky but thebiggest problem is I've got thismischief in and this can be reallytricky and it's a really common problemso I'm just going to lean on my oldmagic wand tool again click delete andas content-aware fill to look all aroundthe edges of the image and build out thesky and build out the foreground and thebushes andMountains and as we watch the progressbar race across there just imagine howlong it would take for you to do thismanually with today's tools it would bevirtually impossible and if you did doit it would take a really really longtime so let's see what we come up withhere there you go in a matter of secondswe've completely built out our panoramasso we retouched an image we picked up abunch of trash removed objects wecouldn't before took a whole tree outcompletely changed a wide image for weband here we fixed a really commonproblem with panoramas so just a few ofthe things that you can do withcontent-aware fill
