media linksreddit and their rss feed basicallystates that it's a simple elegantdesktop ghost bsd provides a simpledesktop oriented operating system basedon freebsd with mate it uses the gtkenvironment to provide a beautiful lookin a comfortable experience and itsroots go back to the university ofcalifornia berkeley unix researchhistorically it was referred to as bsdunix or berkeley unix however today it'scalled bsd for berkeley softwaredistribution you've got ghost bsd onlinemeetup ghostbst iso is now available andthen of course the mate 1.26.0upgrade and then if you go down to thebottom it shows a lot of their sponsorsdown here so what we're going to do isgo ahead and close out of this and goback to the desktop if you downloadghostbsdput it on a usb or throw it into avirtual machine this is the desktopyou're going to be met with now i dowant to tell you something ghostbsd runsin virtual machine a little differentthan linux distributions i don't everassign disk space to a linux distro wheni'm running it in a live mode with ghostbsd if you don't do that it runs theentire operating system inside of yourram so when you do this and you run asystem monitor you're going to show thatyou're using a lot of ram and that'sbecause the whole operating system isrunning out of it first thing i want todo is right click on the desktop you cancreate launcher folder document lockicons change desktop background let'stake a look at this in those desktopbackgrounds pop up i'm going to take alook at that onethat's rather nice that one looks prettygood toothink i will stick with that one thatwas a good looking one here you can alsoadjust your theme right now we're usinga custom it's got vimix mimics dark orvimx light you can also adjust fontsright now it's running droid sans boldacross the whole operating systemexcept for your fixed width font whichis running droid sans mono regular nowif you click on one let's go withapplication font right here you canchoose whatever application font thatyou might want to use i'm going to leaveit where it's at what i am going to dothough is adjust the size from 10up to 12i'm going to select that and as you cansee everything changed size and it makesit a little bigger and a little easierto seeso i'm going to go ahead and close outof thatyou do have two panels down on thebottom panel you've got four desktopsthat are listed right here on the rightand then on the left side you'll haveclose all windows and show your desktopif you go up to your top panel you havebattery level internet and sound thenyou do have your calendar right here andthen you can adjust locations as wellnow if you wanted to you could rightclick on the panelgo to properties and if you wanted tomake that panel just a little bigger youcould go ahead and run that up a littlebit i'll bump it up to 30 and as you cansee everything gets a little bigger andwhen you do make it bigger it slides thecalendar over to the right side and thenbackground you could adjust thebackground of your panels if you wantedto you could change those to darkspecific color and you could even pullup an image and make it have an image upin your panels as wellso i'm going to go ahead and close outof that come up to your app menu let'sclick on that you've got accessoriesyou've got character map in grappaarchive manager make calculator fontviewer search tools password and keysplanck you can add a dock to this systembut i'm going to show you something andrecommend it right off the bat that ifyou do want to use plank there are somesteps you need to take because once youactivate plank and it drops down hereyou have this panel down here it's kindof in the way and at the same time it'shard to make adjustments to plank whenit's down here soright click on the bottom panel go toproperties instead of it being on thebottom let's move it over to the leftlet's close out of that go back up toplankand as you can see it opens on thebottom what you're going to want to dois right click on plank go topreferences its position shows bottomtop right or left i'm going to go aheadand move that over to the rightclose out of that go back to your bottompanelgo to propertiesmove it back to the bottom and close nowyou have your show desktop right hereyou still have your workspaces over hereand now you have your plank dock overhere now what you will notice is that itsays panel right here this little whiteboxonce the system is rebooted thatdisappears and you're good to go let'sgo back over to applications and you gotpluma take screenshot graphics you'vegot eye of mate make color selectionshot well if you wanted something like we'll download that from thesoftware manager we'll show you thathere in a sec internet you've gotfirefox as your web browser transmissionis your bittorrent clientoffice you've got evolution mail matedictionary actual document viewer we canget an office suite as wellsound and video rhythm box sound vlcmedia playerand then system tools you got kaja let'sgo ahead and open that up that's yourfile manager and as you can tell it'slight quick and stays out of your way soyou can get things done over here you'vegot your usual suspects here your homefolders right here of course you canadjust the size of those if you wantedto make them bigger make them smallerbasic settings you can come over hereand search files you can go back to yourhome directory and then of course you'vegot file edit view go bookmarks and helpup toplet's go ahead and close out of thatback down to your applicationslog file viewer make disk usage analyzermate system monitor let me show you thisand like i said earlier if you noticethe memory is at 2.8 gigabytes butthat's your complete operating systemit's running completely out of ram atthe presentcpus i've issued it too we're running alittle bit under five percentand then of course your network historywould run down here so let's go aheadand close out of thatback over to system toolsyou've got mate terminal powerstatistics decomp editor and fish youalso have places which is your homefolder desktop computer and then oversystem preferences you've got hardwarethis is where you come make adjustmentsto your displays keyboard keyboardshortcuts mouse power management dateand timeinternet look and feel appearance mainmenu screen saver station tweak thenunder administration you've got printsettings and then your software stationlet's go ahead and open that up and ifit says confirm the password just hitenter let's go ahead and let thatpopulate it is now populated and we havea warning it says installing softwarewithout upgrading could harm thisinstallation would you like to upgradenow we are in a virtual machine so i'mgoing to choose noand now over here you've got categoriesyou've got everything from accessibilityall the way down to x11 servers fonts soyou got a lot of different categories inhereand you could also just come up here ifyou wanted to and do a search let's lookfor libreoffice and as you can seeeverything pops up for libreofficelanguage packs included just scroll downfind your libreoffice you would mark itfor install come up here and click applyand it would install it to your systemyou could do that with any software youwanted to install so that is yoursoftware station that's the way you getapps and software on your ghostbsdinstall so let's close out of thatback up to systemyou've got your control center let's goahead and open that upyou've got print settings softwarestationupdate station keyboard shortcuts timeand date power management network proxyscreen saver main menuassistive technology startupapplications preferred applications soyou've got all the settings that youhave on linux in the mate environmentalso on ghost
