my goodness don't you remember when youwent first to school you went tokindergarten and in kindergarten theidea was to push along so that you couldget into first grade and then push alongso to get into second grade the grade soon going up and up and then you went tohigh school this was a great transitionin life and now the pressure is beingput on you must get ahead you must go upthe grades and finally be good enough toget to college and then when you get tocollege you're still going step by stepstep by step up to the great moment inwhich you're ready to go out into theworld and then when you get out intothis famous world comes the struggle forsuccess in profession or business andagain there seems to be a ladder beforeyou something for which you're reachingall the time and then suddenly whenyou're about 40 or 45 years old in themiddle of life we wake up one day andsay huh I've arrived and by Jove I feelpretty much the same as I've always selfbagged I'm not so sure that I don't feela little bit cheated because you see youwill foolyou are always living or somewhere whereyou are and while as I said it is oftremendous use for us we'll be able tolook ahead in this waythere is no use planning for a futurewhich when you get to it and it becomesa present you won't be there you'll beliving in some other future which hasn'tyet arrived and so in this way one isnever able actually to inherit and enjoythe fruits of one action you can't liveat all unless you can live fully now
