what's going on everybody brought itback together today with another videotoday it's not a vape review it is atech overview and sort of review okay dois tell you about this pass along someinformation everybody knows she knows Iwork on operating systems and inspire afree-fire and we do application softwarefor hands whoever you do it for Mac os10we do a full Windows we do it for Linuxand also other operating systems youguys have never heard of so I'm not evenfor you with it okay and one of thethings is that that new operating systemcame on the market called ARCA OS wellunderstand our Co s is to understand itsbase where it came fromwhat's it descended from and so whatwe're going to do is we're going to goahead and go through that right now I'mgonna tell you guys what Arthur is whatis based on and a little bit of historybehind the operating system okay that isbased off of alright let's get startedall right Ark OS is based on os/2 okayso you're not old enough to know aboutos/2 or where it came from or what itwas so what we're gonna do is go aheadand tell you what os/2 was which startedthe beginningos/2 os/2 was a joint development grantbetween IBM and Microsoft it wassupposed to be a better dog than das attheir windows the windows and it wassupposed to be the future of computingand IBM and Microsoft eventually aseverything does enjoy developmentagreements it falls apart that fellapart okay Microsoft didn't want to haveanything to do without him anymore onthe project because IBM is too demandingand you know they basically had theirown idea of where they wanted to see thesoftware go Microsoft went ahead andalso took the code that they developedfor os/2 and the hard way Dave Cutlerfrom digital now full disclosure here Ido know Dave great guy very smart doesnot get enough credit for what he doesand he's a super super genius dudeanyway but anyway they hired Dave Cutlerand Dave came on board with Microsoftand started creating something calledos/2 NT which eventually became WindowsNT and because dave came from digitaland they brought in a lot of the backsand VMS technologyinto windows but we're talking aboutways to so that's how I always do allrightIBM let forth and branched out their ownversion of os/2 and some of you mayremember os/2 warp and if you're oldenough to remember os/2 warp but theycreated a midsize create their ownversion of os/2 and it was actually verypopular for a while there I had it I ranit and actually my mother's firstcomputer which is a compact shipped withOS to say 2.3 or 3 I can't rememberanywayshe had os/2 as she ran that machineforever she actually ran that machine upuntil 2000 it was 2000 when we finallygot her a new nose 98 we got her gatewayto know that was my first computer giftto my mother was actuallyGateway in 1998but I still get the machine because youknow I used it for those of precursorforums you know what I mean bulletinsand everything you know so yeah greatday it's great things but anyway Idigressos/2 I said was very popular thingy popextremely popular and for a while thereit actually looked like it was gonnaovertake windows that it was going to beit was going to be IBM's vision whichwas the history which was the future ofcomputing and let's to that a lot ofmomentum and a lot of companies worth alot of software for and everything andeventually that popularity fizzled outand a fizzled out because of twoproducts which was Windows 95 andWindows NT okayMicrosoft played their cards right Imean two had the applicationproductivity software they haddevelopers that were actually bringingsoftware to Windows and Windows 95 wasthere was a lot of buzz around windows95 and around windows NT and so whatended up happening was the day beforeWindows 95 most IBM signed an agreementwith Microsoft saying that they wouldship Windows 95 with their computers andthat basically killed os/2and was it kill it off for good allright but there's still a future therebut we're gonna go over that all rightand but it didn't kill it offer good andbut more of IBM's attention went awayfrom from os/2 and went more intoWindows and that's what you saw a loadof smart sweet ported over to Windowsand that was another part of theagreement was that IBM wasn't allowed toactually distribute load of smart suitewith many of their PCs customersactually had to buy it sobut os/2 IBM eventually quit developingit and then they went on to their on theone other things they stay with AIX andPowerPC and then they just slowly letos/2 die out their version and this iswhere we get into EECOM station ecompstation is what it was calledall right econ station was a version ofthose two that was done with IBM'sblessing okayand what it did was it added more devicedrivers it added more softwareapplication software and it brought os/2up to date for modern computers withcirca 2000 2001 okay with modernsoftware because at that point in timeos/2 updates and everything will prettymuch kill and so ecomp station I ran incompensation for a while and it was notmy favorite person those two there werea lot of problems I got a lot ofinstaller hangings some machines thatwould work some machines that would workand so pecan station was that never didget super popular and that was becausenot a lot of development dollars wentinto it you had that specific hardwareand that specific requirements and itjust sucked really to be truthfullyhonest withand there were a couple people that likethe Ark and Oleg who were going to talkabout a minute all right Arthur no waycreated device drivers and tried to makethe situation a little bit better but itlooked as if he comm stations future wasnot so bright and so and it wasn'tbecause I mean I think they've actuallyquit developing in comm station alltogether okay and sowith ecomp station out of the way theyneeded a new OS to distribution and sothey created our cannoli created MarthaOS alright now this is where we getinterestingBarca OSyouand now we are back into parka OS andartha less like I said was created byour codomain and Louis Rosenthal talkedto Louis before Louis is a good guy andhe seems to know what he's doing and Iwill have by the way that link to thatvideo that the interview he did withbride line Duke I will have that in thedescription below I'll have it in therein the description so you guys can goback and look at that but why did theydo it well the thing was to once againit was very popular back in extremelypopularbusinesses ran it I mean it was used inbanks it was used on telling machinesthese by insurance companies hell evenNASA man os/2 for a whilelaw enforcement officers used it schoolsused it it was just super super popularand what's happening is a lot of thosecompanies have not stopped using theless - and why should they I mean it waslike a frickin toaster oven when you didstall on machine just ran there are somepeople that haven't had to repeat thosesystems eight years andyeah factories used it to run forgotfactories but what's happening is thosecomputers are breaking down and they'regoing away and I mean parts are not thateasy to come by anymore I'm a computerfrom the computer from the 90s good lucktrying to find a working systemno no I'm not going to happenbut yeah astronauta modern home pricewhat lewis and them do is they'veactually created later said they put intheir own bootloader can boot from USBrecognizes modern hardware so you canrun os/2 on these newer systems thatthey're releasing today and which is agood thing it's a good thing so nowpeople when they need to replace thesesystems they can get an arc OS licenseand they can go and install our classand run all their oh that's to softwarewindows software das software whateverthey wanted on or whatever they wantwhatever they're using now whatever wewant to buy whatever they're using theycan do thatsoyeahnow the question I get all the time iscan I use Arco s yes you can it'sactually quite usable they have themodern bills of Firefox that have anoffice suite and they have a bunch oflegacy applications that are still goodtoday which is funny I mean you knowthey're still some of those applicationsare still good enough to use todayso this because it's old doesn't meanthat you know it's useless and they'vedone a lot of work to modernize thatlike it looks beautiful as you guys justsaw on that screen shot I just posted ofitit's beautiful operating system they didpoured a lot of the Linux KDE icons overto it so yeah it's usable butgo buy yourself a copy it's only $129per personal edition 229 for acommercialI think 999 for the s/390 backupfacility thing there's a 999 in athousandthousand nine hundredI think it's only 999 dollarsit's Michael buy their check but yeahthe current version is 5.0 for it isgoing to be in development for quite awhile I don't see Louis or them quittingour Co s anytime soon I think it's goingit's not a pretty bright future and heyas an OS 2 fanboy I'm happy to seeanythingOS to you know brought up to the 21stcentury people have been trying to getIBM to open source it foreverIBM one do it and I understand whybecause I mean they had legacy codethat's owned by Microsoft others othercompanies and there as well and but yeahit's one of those operating systems thathas lasted throughout the years aspopularity has last throughout the yearsa lot of people who are run a lot ofpeople still do running and yeah I thinkit's cool it's a nice trip down memorylane for me whenever I get a chance torun it and you knowI like it and listen
