all right like I said I'm recentlybrought in brought on with our Kanoa asof middle about the middle last monthI'd yes so it's not been now I've beenwith with officially with them but I'vebeen working doing some the beta testingand stuff for during the beta stage allright so I'm gonna go ahead and restartthis I just need to make sure butbasically it's no this should be thisshould be good here if I need to speakup I can all right so the install isvery much the same as they all of themhave been with the that you know pate aCD install and of course this requiresactually a DVD for the size because itincreases over the size of a CD forquite some time now so moved from harddisk boot from the Ark OS boot cd-romdefault values you know or me you knowyou boot with menu for our own optionvalues I'm gonna go ahead and show thatone just so you see what's in there mostof the time you can probably use bootwith default values unless you're usinga modified virtual machine for instanceif you use the default values forVirtualBox you can even boot withdefault values but when you tweak themlike I do for trying to get a littlebetter performance out of them it goeswith the defaults of what VirtualBox isso you'll have to change them for thisinstall I wouldn't have on this machineI wouldn't need to wouldn't actuallyneed to change themall right basic help structure here youcan get some more help with f1 dependingon the context pages alright so modernhardware a CPI is what you'd use on mostof the modern systems something like at42 you can use the modern hardware aCPI I figure most people or probably usethe older hardware so they get the APMdriver from it where they can put it andsuspend better and such but you can useeven on a t42 can use the modernhardware so anything newer than a t42you have the you know that modernhardware will definitely work on yep yesno I believe it's not going to be the SPcar hardware but a t42 doesn't have anSMP so if you were using something asSMP that is older like in the age of at42 you'd probably still want the a CPIfor getting the multi MP capabilityalright one thing I do change here butyou don't have to do it in this youdon't have to do it from this here youcould always do it from the regularinstall is on and ThinkPads the a mousedriver does not play well with the withthe track point so I always alwayschange it from here but you can changeit in the Installer as well alright sothis is these are basically if you don'tmake any changes these are you knowthese are basically if you just was adefault install its gonna these are thisthese would be the default now I tend tofrom most of my installs I get rid ofthe IDE because I don't have any IDEhardwareeven my CD ROM is HCI but it doesn'thurt to leave it in there and it shouldput it second in this in this in thelistso therefore the age that I've usedfirst anyhowone thing that they said no that's notthe right one where am I atalright so then most of the rest thisunless you know that you have somethingthat you need to changeI don't not came across and installedand I needed to change these with theexception of I had certain ones that didnot turn on the support for support bootfor us from USB I don't think even thenit was necessary but because it talksabout requires mass storage support Imade sure it was checked to make surethat it didn't say oh let's not installthe mass storage support I don't thinkthat'd be an issue but that is the onlything I've ever changed besides thestorage controllers on this page for anyof my installs yeah yeahhow about this one yeah okay I don'tknow okay yeah I never I never had ithappen on me in my installs because Iwas using internal loins still never sawit I also tested some with an externalCD cd-rom but yeah okay so so there'sanother potential place to need that sothere there are reasons that this is youknow that these are these are basicallywhat this is going to do is determinewhat the setup is going to be when itboots to the install often I'll put inhere whichI'll go ahead and put my settings inhere for the or the HCI it's not rudethese are none of these are necessaryfor the for the install but like the s Iput in there because that's what allowsme to burn CDs with our SJ yes I'm sowords the AHCI read Me's has the tellsyou about those parameters the I guessof the s basically what it does is ittells the HCI driver to make availablethe skuzzy commands so that's what makesit work with the rsj driver what's thatbasically that's what you yeah so withthe eight you know basically the thespecific like I said this here is verylimited in what it's going to tell youabout because this is just getting youto boot off this DVD itself this is thisis not specifically like I said youdon't unless you have to go in here youdon't have to go in here you can makeall of any of these changes that youwanted to make you can go ahead and letit boot into the regular come to justboot with defaults and then make thosechanges in the Installer sectionI'm only I went in here because youmight have one of the purposes of thisparticular screen as it allows you tomake changes so that you can boot offthe DVD in case you can't boot with thedefault parameters and I'm wanting tomake sure you understand you know someof the things that are availablebasically it's you know it's just asimple way of getting into your systemin particular one of the things has alot of capability in this on this DVD isto Bill are going to do some work on thedrive you know on your own your if yourcamp boot into your regular partitionfor some reason you can do some basictroubleshooting off of theyes I I have I'm not 100% sure on thiswhat I believe this is is it justbecause you've got to this stage thisstage is relatively simple to get to butto boot OS to the u.s. to offer USBrequires special stunts up and to behonest with you I'm not sure that that'sready this is just I think this is justpreparing for that it's not Act I don'tthink it's actually where you can youknow other than if that may need to bechecked for being able to boot off a USBCD wrong not at that stage no yeah thisis yeah this is just the install so thislike I said this is just booting offthings up to the Installer is what'sthis usefulour OS the big debts that spoke volumesthat that said quotes there by defaultin case you want to move from anexternal USB controller the confusionthat people happens yes that you need toturn it on first but since a lot ofdevices these days don't have her USBdevice built in that's why it's switchedon by default this does not providesupport booting from USB stick it'spurely there it involves an extra move Isee people doing this yes yeahall right if you if this allows you tohave Network you know assuming thatyou're you know that you've got thedrivers for the email for Kyle we'llcall it a standard Network you can youcan get Network capability at theinstall or maintenance windows you knowyou don't really don't need it at theinstall phase but you may need it forthe maintenance because you may have mayneed to be able to get to the web tolook up something you know why am Ihaving this problem type issues nothat's not what this is doing so whenthis thing boots up so I boot to the tothe maintenance went to the well to theinstallation window I have the option ofgoing to a maintenance window from thatmaintenance window I can bring up abrowser and I can say you know what iscausing this you know what would causethis error whatever the error is that Ican't boot you know why can't I boottype thing so this is not necessarily somuch for installation issues but asyou're going along you're working alongand all of a sudden you're having aproblem you have the option to go lookup something even if you can't boot intoyour normal partition so this basicallyis you can use this like I don'ttypically put a maintenance partition onmy systems I know what most people doI don't this allows me to boot off theDVD and still be able to get to thenetwork yesyes Louis too only has ipv4 at thispoint so yes you know and don't have anyidea what time frame if any for an ipv6it the amount of work involved is stilluncertain even and you can edit theconfig sis but you know so if againthere's a lot of the stuff is gives youthe ability to do things not that youneed to do such things but you mighthave a reason yeah at this point yesbecause there's nothing but English atthis back yeahArco OS five that just launched asEnglish only source no other no otheroption at this point but that's what I'mabout with the edit that config sis youit gives you like it's a lot of power ifyou need to go and make those changesI've needed I've done it before forchecking something I'm in reality it'snot something you're going to often needbut it gives change but you know isget to do it what you're after anywayso all right thenf10 save the changes and now it's goingto boot into the installation now whatit's booting into now is actually in inOS 2 or arc OS you know boot it's not atthis stageit's now booting into OS 2 so that's thereason like he was talking about thatcheck mark for the cd-rom that checkmark needed to be on there if I wasbooting off of an external cd-rom DVDROM at this point it's got Mac CPUequals one if we looked at the configsis and as Mac CPU equals one so onlyone processor gets initialized duringthis stage but once we get booted intothe system then it will use a by defaultit'll use the all your CPUs assuming youso it's you haven't changed the configin some way to not be a CPI or not touse multiple CPUsall right so best overall font size wefound is medium that seems to work thebest on all the systems but it does givethe option of changing too small or toolarge overall medium seems to be havebeen the best that everybody's testinganything like I said here we can go tosystem management from the systemmanagement basically you can get to yourvarious tools to be able to do systemyou know if you're if you're trying towork on a system from here I'm on it Iwant to look atall readme.txt this has quite a bit ofinformation in it and depending on yourusage case you may need to read it quitea bit of it we may be able to go withoutlooking at any of it but that's going tobe the problem is is that this has gotsupport this tells us information on theV and C servers it tell that's in theretells you about the system prerequisitesit tells you about the drivecapabilities you know we can't use a GPTwe after you have them motherboardI'm not motherboard that's silly babyare in there anyhow it talks about theAurora web browser like I've told youthis thing has the ability to get on theweb it uses the Aurora web browser whichis one of the Cutie based browsers thatwe were like it was talking aboutearlier that it ships with one here forbeing able to get out to the web to beable to say hello what's going on withthis it could be could be done duringthe install it can be done during theother issues if you are having aninstall error you could go in you cancome back into the system maintenancethere go to the web browser open up aticket and upload the log files straightfrom here you know so that is you knowit wouldn't even have to move it to aUSB Drive necessarily you could just gostraight into the web browser and uploadit straight from from in here you EveUEFI systems if it's a pure UEFI systemat this point it's not going to work ithas to have the compatibility layer andit has to be turned on to thecompatibility layer so that's what thisyou know so it's got information on thatthis this readme as talks about I saidthe djinn Mac drivers you may know againthis may be something thattells you exactly what you need to knowand you may not need to know it at allbasically if you have any issues this isa place that you want to look at to seeit's good idea to familiar you know tolook through it possibly before youstart but if you have any issues this isone of the first places you want to lookat because it has a lot of documentationas to what might be needed but your maynot have you know may not have beensomething that was known ahead of timewithout reading through it so the readmedot text is definitely something Irecommend looking at is particularly ifyou're having any issues all rightand then I can restart the Installerthere's also in that readme.txt even hasa few things that can be pertinent toyou after the install because it tellsyou to think how things will beinstalled during the process so allright the welcome screen click Next theend-user License Agreement I'm gonna letyou all read the whole thing throughhere yeah and you do have to scroll tothe bottom of it you know so you have toread through the entire thing before youcan click on the button soalright this this allows for differentpersonalitiesI haven't played much with myself withthe personalities single-volume is likeit talks about it's just it's going toinstall it all everything onto a singlevolume and just it's going to go withsome pre-selected options multiplevolumes is like says it's going to usemultiple volumes during the installexactly what's on the enterpriseworkstation and what exactly is in theseI'm not sure these are these were set upso that it gives you the ability tochoose an option and just let it go andinstall certain things by default sothis would install the SMB sip server bydefault for instance I pretty muchexclusively used a customer myself mostof the people that have used thepredefined tend to be doing so with thesingle volume because if you're using asingle volume it has a pretty good youknow select you know default selectionsselectand it does give you some tells you abit about the personalities up here oneof the options during the pre boot wasto turn off this getting discsinformation you typically don't want todo that we might tell you to do so ifyou're having a problem for a specificpurpose but in general if this has aproblem you're going to have a probleminstalling anyway so there's not a lotof point in turning this off becausethis is going to tell you whether you'relikely to have that problem now ifyou've been installing on this samedrive and this is just a reinstall maybeyou don't want to take the time for itto go through that's one thing but ingeneral letting it do the disk checkintegrity is a good idea because it'lllet you know if there's a probleminvolved we can come in in Madge valiumandI need to create one here say bootableyou know I think I'm gonna be dosomething I hadn't done in many years isgo ahead and install it on C Drive allright I'm gonna put it at will just giveit five miles in thereall right changes and make it startledalright now I could just go in here andinstall the boot menu which this bootmenu and installs here is not the IBMboot manager it's the ARCA OS well theycall our air boot and installer so Idon't care much for boot managersanymore I used to use them for years andI just go in this case I don't need itI'm not gonna put it in there it'seasier for me to come back in and to setthe other one star double again that istry to get rid of the boot manager laterso it's not that hard I did it the otherday but if you need to if you've gotmultiple if you're not booting off amultiple boot drives or if unless you ifI'd set this to be a logical Drive thenI would have to have a boot managerotherwise you can change thewhere the networking components go youcan change where the defaultapplications go or the UNIXcompatibility which is basically us ouris that and you can change where yourtemporary files are atand which it's always going to formatthis system volume it is always going toformat this system volume one more timeit is always going to format this systemvolume so it's not going to try to doand it's not going to try to do anupdate its it will it will format thesystem ball you there yes you willalways form it it doesn't it doesn'tcheck to see if it's empty it formats itI think at this stage I think we cancontinue without my formatting it at onepoint during the beta cycle I would Ihad to format it at this point so that Icould go on and then it would format itagain so it's so I know for a fact thatit will you know does format in a secondtime yes yeah well right now that baitthe basis is that you can't boot off offat this here is only the OS two thereis no llores to that can mighthave been something a little bit youknow quirky about seeing the volume ofthe directories or something possiblyit's been a while since I did it butbasically it was just there you knowthere was like I said there might havebeen something about an extra layer ofdirectories or something-something theback of my mind differentyeah well like I said I booted I bootedoff the off the JFS you know I'm notJeff s booted off the Linux box pluggedin you know the USB and I ran the FS youknow the the FS trim so it's going inthere it's playing with the drive and Ididn't have any problems so there'swhile I can't guarantee there be noproblems I through the years that I'veused the JFS you know previously withthe econ station and now with the iOSI've not seen any issues with our GFS incomparison like I said I know the thirdcan be issues extended attributes thatokay I could see that that could be apossibility I although the next oneshouldn't handle it what i but i haven'tplayed i rarely have extended outside ofmy workplace shell I don't have damnitso I haven't really played with it thatway so I hadn't thought about it becausemost of my JFS stuff has not had EA's tobe consideringyeah so outside the EAS like I said Ihaven't played with I haven'tmost of my GFS stuff has not had theyeas to be of an issue so they're therethey're very well could be a issues thatI'm not you know extended volumes or chainyou know check volumes or anything anyof those things at that stage it's goingto come back in and reset these becauseyou it doesn't know what's still validso it has to go check what's valid andwhat checks what's valid it goes back tousing the system volume by default so ifyou make these changes you make anychanges here you'll need to go makechange these changes again that's one ofthe things that's didn't to read me forinstance no it's talking about things ofbeing in the readme that some of thethings that are in there but it's if youthink about it it makes sense but it'snot would have changed unless you'vegone into the manager make the newpartition nothing to change nothing toimprovement innovation format now so theonly thing that's the only thing haschanged at this point is that I set thisto be startled instead of this beingstarted and I did that myselfanything else yes what about this emptybooth preview menu what about it inpeople I said they say P isn't me thereis nothing in the treatment that youneed to set up if it doesn't if it's setin the preview menu to ultimate to amore Hardware of a CD I checked itshould by default install the SMD kernelNHC type there's nothing required ceteraunless you're installing in a virtualmachine or you manually select thatinstalled orbs have the old systemthat's what's cool people thank you thatis install support for kernel on that ifyou install our capacities yes ownersystem is the false taste the Inspkernel and SD should be enabled by thephone if it's not happening something'sgoing wrongokay so that's that's one of the thingsthat's what is probably from hearingabout yours that had me mention thatearlier is that in general we're notgoing you know we don't suggest you andcheck that unless we tell you to do solike this like in your throat casewhat that thing is doing is it's goingout and it's running a check on thedrive and checking the volume since inparticularly and what's what it's doingis it's looking to see if if it's if thevolume is used essentially the disk isusable and if it if in certain cases youknow there's you know the previous youknow a previous set up on it would makeit where os/2 is not able to see anyvolumes on it and in which case what youcan that it will give you the options ofcircular gives you several differentoptions what I have you know you there'san auto usually there's an automatic fixbutton and you can click fix and ittries to go fix it my experience therenot when I've needed it where it's comeup and says you can't you need somethingI've had to go in there and do the thingwhere it said wipe the first tencylinders or whatever it is you know sothat's what I've had to do but that'swhat that's all about is this checkingto see if that drive partitions are goodthe fact that you are able to home thereand you were able to uncheck it and iteverything was good isunusual you know I would normally expectit if it if it's hanging like that thatit would all if that'scurrently the next the next planyou know plan priorityso anything else for a quick quick goingover yeah we're behind or whatever
