dur="2.8">the desktop</text><text start="128.64" dur="3.44">is it almost seems like they couldn't</text><text start="130.64" dur="3.76">decide if they wanted to go with a</text><text start="132.08" dur="5.28">windows 95 style approach or</text><text start="134.4" dur="4.96">a traditional approach you have all of</text><text start="137.36" dur="4.08">these icons on the desktop here</text><text start="139.36" dur="4.72">but you can also come down here and see</text><text start="141.44" dur="4.879">similar icons here's our connections</text><text start="144.08" dur="3.04">we have os2 system down here as well as</text><text start="146.319" dur="3.041">here</text><text start="147.12" dur="3.6">programs tcp shadows netscape</text><text start="149.36" dur="4.56">communicator and shredder</text><text start="150.72" dur="6.159">so you have icons in two places but wait</text><text start="153.92" dur="4.56">there's more we also have this task very interesting to me that there's</text><text start="162.4" dur="3.28">really two or three different ways to</text><text start="164.239" dur="2.801">get to programs</text><text start="165.68" dur="3.36">and actually this is the theme that we</text><text start="167.04" dur="4.08">saw on past versions of os2</text><text start="169.04" dur="3.52">where you can get to programs for from</text><text start="171.12" dur="3.28">two or three different places</text><text start="172.56" dur="3.759">it's no different here except for</text><text start="174.4" dur="4.8">they've incorporated these windows 95</text><text start="176.319" dur="2.881">style concepts</text><text start="180.8" dur="3.04">top left here you can see that we have</text><text start="182.56" dur="4.24">our</text><text start="183.84" dur="4.399">group and this is very similar to what</text><text start="186.8" dur="4.159">we've seen in the past</text><text start="188.239" dur="3.521">we can come in here to tcp internet lan</text><text start="190.959" dur="2.721">or modem</text><text start="191.76" dur="4.72">so they've actually gotten rid of some</text><text start="193.68" dur="4.4">of the confusedness that we saw in 3.0</text><text start="196.48" dur="3.28">where we couldn't decide which group to</text><text start="198.08" dur="3.439">choose</text><text start="199.76" dur="3.92">if we come into land here we have our</text><text start="201.519" dur="4.321">ftp tftp</text><text start="203.68" dur="4">our telnet we can launch telnet like</text><text start="205.84" dur="4.88">we've done in past videos</text><text start="207.68" dur="4.32">and connect up to our raspberry pi with</text><text start="210.72" dur="5.12">a new connection</text><text start="212" dur="3.84">which we learned ansi is the way to go</text><text start="220.56" dur="4.28">and that looks like that works pretty</text><text start="222" dur="6.72">well so it looks almost identical to</text><text start="224.84" dur="4.84">3.0 we do have a group for configuring</text><text start="228.72" dur="2.4">tcp</text><text start="229.68" dur="3.119">where we can go in and make different</text><text start="231.12" dur="3.52">changes here apparently you can</text><text start="232.799" dur="2.72">configure a remote system which is</text><text start="234.64" dur="4">really interesting</text><text start="235.519" dur="4.881">i haven't looked into this too much</text><text start="238.64" dur="3.36">oh interesting so you can actually log</text><text start="240.4" dur="3.28">into a remote host and configure the</text><text start="242" dur="4">host and password that way</text><text start="243.68" dur="3.839">we don't have any other os24 machines on</text><text start="246" dur="2.799">the network so that's probably not going</text><text start="247.519" dur="3.041">to work but that's definitely an</text><text start="248.799" dur="3.36">interesting concept</text><text start="250.56" dur="3.28">beyond that it looks like we can do some</text><text start="252.159" dur="4.16">various customization for things like</text><text start="253.84" dur="2.479">telnet</text><text start="256.479" dur="3.681">oh nice you can choose like the default</text><text start="258.4" dur="3.84">emulator type when you launch telnet</text><text start="260.16" dur="4.08">that's kind of neat as well as keyboard</text><text start="262.24" dur="3.44">and colors and attributes and mappings</text><text start="264.24" dur="3.04">and things so that's kind of handy if</text><text start="265.68" dur="4.16">you're using telnet</text><text start="267.28" dur="2.56">pretty frequently</text><text start="270.72" dur="5.68">we also have this tcp information</text><text start="274.72" dur="5.36">and that gives you some different</text><text start="276.4" dur="6.239">command references and things for tcpip</text><text start="280.08" dur="3.6">administering dns and dhcp that's kind</text><text start="282.639" dur="2.56">of cool</text><text start="283.68" dur="3.04">i'd actually be really interested to see</text><text start="285.199" dur="4.801">what the different commands look like</text><text start="286.72" dur="3.28">okay so it's a help guide</text><text start="290.4" dur="3.04">and it tells you different things like</text><text start="291.84" dur="4.72">communication configuration</text><text start="293.44" dur="5.84">file chant transfer things along those</text><text start="296.56" dur="4.479">lines so that's kind of neat as well</text><text start="299.28" dur="4.4">and then we have a dos windows group</text><text start="301.039" dur="4.88">under tcp</text><text start="303.68" dur="3.28">okay so you can run a windows or a dos</text><text start="305.919" dur="4.56">ping utility</text><text start="306.96" dur="6">let's run the windows one so it launches</text><text start="310.479" dur="4.641">a windows 3.1 style program</text><text start="312.96" dur="4.48">kind of cool and i guess we can choose a</text><text start="315.12" dur="2.32">host</text><text start="318.639" dur="7.041">and you'll get ping results that's</text><text start="320.08" dur="7.52">actually pretty nifty i like it</text><text start="325.68" dur="4.16">now of great interest on the desktop we</text><text start="327.6" dur="5.76">have netscape communicator installed</text><text start="329.84" dur="7.44">when was the last time you saw that</text><text start="333.36" dur="6.32">so in os2 3.0 they had a ibm</text><text start="337.28" dur="4.16">web file viewer as i recall and it looks</text><text start="339.68" dur="3.6">like now we have</text><text start="341.44" dur="3.52">netscape communicator installed and</text><text start="343.28" dur="3.919">actually several of the installation</text><text start="344.96" dur="4.64">packages for os2</text><text start="347.199" dur="4.72">rely on using netscape communicator</text><text start="349.6" dur="3.599">there's a java add-on which requires it</text><text start="351.919" dur="3.921">amongst some other things so</text><text start="353.199" dur="3.44">netscape communicator is actually used</text><text start="355.84" dur="4.799">to install</text><text start="356.639" dur="4">some programs by using java applets</text><text start="362.8" dur="3.44">unfortunately home.netscape.com is no</text><text start="365.44" dur="4.319">longer</text><text start="366.24" dur="4.56">in use or service it's a casualty of the</text><text start="369.759" dur="4.401">internet</text><text start="370.8" dur="3.36">but we should be able to go to google</text><text start="376.88" dur="3.759">and there you have it uh not quite</text><text start="379.039" dur="2.88">looking too great but it looks like it's</text><text start="380.639" dur="2.801">at least usable we can</text><text start="381.919" dur="4.4">see what two plus two is and see if it</text><text start="383.44" dur="2.879">comes up with an answer</text><text start="390.96" dur="4.239">and indeed two plus two is four so there</text><text start="393.12" dur="4.079">you have it</text><text start="395.199" dur="4.241">it's actually kind of interesting to see</text><text start="397.199" dur="3.921">some of the different</text><text start="399.44" dur="3.52">bookmarks that you see here a lot of</text><text start="401.12" dur="3.6">them are pointing to netscape</text><text start="402.96" dur="3.519">if we go to the channels bookmark though</text><text start="404.72" dur="4">you can see businesses computing and</text><text start="406.479" dur="3.44">internet education games let's go to</text><text start="408.72" dur="2.879">games</text><text start="409.919" dur="3.921">oh unfortunately that's not going to</text><text start="411.599" dur="3.921">work either but they did have a variety</text><text start="413.84" dur="2.96">of channels that you could go to if you</text><text start="415.52" dur="3.44">wanted to look at different things</text><text start="416.8" dur="3.44">personal finance and once again</text><text start="418.96" dur="2.56">unfortunately they're all pointing the</text><text start="420.24" dur="3.04">netscape but that would have been a cool</text><text start="421.52" dur="2.959">concept back in the day install</text><text start="423.28" dur="3.84">netscape and you have all these</text><text start="424.479" dur="4.72">different items that you can go to so</text><text start="427.12" dur="3.28">basically looks a lot like standard</text><text start="429.199" dur="7.601">communicator just for</text><text start="430.4" dur="9.68">os2 warp there you have it</text><text start="436.8" dur="4.72">next up we have programs</text><text start="440.08" dur="4.399">and here you can see that we actually</text><text start="441.52" dur="4.64">have netscape communicator again</text><text start="444.479" dur="3.44">and one thing i did like about</text><text start="446.16" dur="3.12">communicator in the day was</text><text start="447.919" dur="2.961">all the different applications</text><text start="449.28" dur="2.8">associated with it could be launched</text><text start="450.88" dur="2.48">individually</text><text start="452.08" dur="2.88">we won't go ahead and do that at this</text><text start="453.36" dur="4.32">point but you can see icons for every</text><text start="454.96" dur="2.72">single one of them</text><text start="458.479" dur="5.921">for multimedia i did make an attempt to</text><text start="461.68" dur="4.56">install my sound card with some drivers</text><text start="464.4" dur="3.919">unfortunately i do have a very</text><text start="466.24" dur="3.2">specialized sound card in this packard</text><text start="468.319" dur="2">bell which is integrated to the</text><text start="469.44" dur="2.64">motherboard</text><text start="470.319" dur="5.201">and wasn't quite able to get the drivers</text><text start="472.08" dur="6.399">working but i did get close</text><text start="475.52" dur="4.239">we do have sound bites unfortunately</text><text start="478.479" dur="2.56">none of them are going to play but you</text><text start="479.759" dur="2.401">could double click on those to play</text><text start="481.039" dur="2.72">those if you wanted to</text><text start="482.16" dur="5.36">apparently there's garden and ocean</text><text start="483.759" dur="3.761">sounds interesting</text><text start="488.56" dur="4.16">and there's also a group of space sound</text><text start="491.36" dur="4.559">so i guess you can change the different</text><text start="492.72" dur="3.199">themes for the desktop</text><text start="496.879" dur="4.961">there's an images folder and in there it</text><text start="499.919" dur="3.921">looks like there's some jpeg images</text><text start="501.84" dur="4.479">that you can see bicycles and flowers</text><text start="503.84" dur="8.16">and art deco</text><text start="506.319" dur="5.681">let's pop that one open ah very nice</text><text start="512.159" dur="3.521">so we do have some stock images</text><text start="518.32" dur="3.519">also have a bitmaps folder</text><text start="523.76" dur="4.56">where we can look at things like this</text><text start="525.12" dur="5.839">nice os2 work background</text><text start="528.32" dur="2.639">there you have it</text><text start="531.92" dur="4.32">as for sound there's not a whole lot we</text><text start="534.8" dur="3.12">can do because i don't have my card</text><text here's where we</text><text start="542.64" dur="2.319">have those different schemes that we saw</text><text start="544.16" dur="2.56">not long ago</text><text start="544.959" dur="3.041">the kind of neat</text><text start="551.92" dur="4.64">you can also set your warning beep or</text><text start="554.24" dur="4.56">the icon for this application</text><text start="556.56" card</text><text start="562.24" dur="3.76">configured we won't be able to see much</text><text start="563.76" dur="2.24">there</text><text start="566.24" dur="4.48">there's also a movies folder and it</text><text start="569.44" dur="4.8">looks like there's a movie in here that</text><text start="570.72" dur="7.119">we could play though not with any sound</text><text start="574.24" dur="3.599">a couple of nice happy birds there</text><text start="578" dur="4.72">next up here is this tcp internet we've</text><text start="580.8" dur="5.28">already looked at that</text><text start="582.72" dur="5.2">next up we have utilities</text><text start="586.08" dur="3.6">and here we can see we have the os2</text><text start="587.92" dur="5.44">system editor which we've had all the</text><text start="589.68" dur="3.68">way since at least 1.3</text><text start="593.44" dur="4.64">as well as this enhanced editor that i</text><text start="595.12" dur="5.76">believe showed up in 3.0 and is also in</text><text start="598.08" dur="4.16">uh 4.0 though it looks like in 4.0 it's</text><text start="600.88" dur="4.56">more enhanced than it was</text><text start="602.24" dur="5.2">in 3.0 watson works</text><text start="605.44" dur="3.76">so it looks like we can type things we</text><text start="607.44" dur="4.639">can change the style and we can change</text><text start="609.2" dur="6.319">the font which is kind of cool</text><text start="612.079" dur="4.961">next we have seek and scan files</text><text start="615.519" dur="3.841">which if you wanted to find a certain</text><text start="617.04" dur="4.72">pesky file you could search for it</text><text start="619.36" dur="3.12">so and this does a pretty good job again</text><text start="621.76" dur="2.96">this is a</text><text start="622.48" dur="4">little faster machine than we've used in</text><text start="624.72" dur="4.32">the past so it does a dur="5.36">of neat</text><text start="760" dur="7.92">next we have games and we have</text><text start="763.6" dur="5.359">solitaire for mahjong klondike and os2</text><text start="767.92" dur="3.12">chess</text><text start="768.959" dur="4.961">in the opening screen you saw me running</text><text start="771.04" dur="4.799">a chest for a computer against computer</text><text moving</text><text start="779.44" dur="3.6">along and it's kind of fun</text><text start="781.68" dur="3.36">this would be pretty mesmerizing to</text><text start="783.04" dur="3.12">watch if you wanted to watch it for a</text><text start="785.04" dur="2.96">while</text><text start="786.16" dur="3.28">what i have noticed is as time goes on</text><text start="788" dur="2.8">things slow down and you can see it</text><text start="789.44" dur="3.199">right now because the computer is trying</text><text start="790.8" dur="4">to calculate its next move</text><text start="792.639" dur="6.159">so that's chess we also do have klondike</text><text start="801.2" dur="2.639">solitaire</text><text start="805.839" dur="4.641">and it's an old mainstay with the whole</text><text start="807.519" dur="4.241">os2 card deck</text><text start="810.48" dur="3.52">looks like it's having some sort of a</text><text start="811.76" dur="3.68">problem but you do see</text><text start="814" dur="3.2">that available as well if you want to</text><text start="815.44" dur="13.6">play solitaire</text><text start="817.2" dur="13.28">we also have mahjong solitaire</text><text start="829.04" dur="3.44">and once again it seems to be having</text><text start="830.48" dur="5.44">some problems too but</text><text start="832.48" dur="3.44">in theory you could play this as well</text><text start="836.8" dur="3.039">we also have this java for os2 folder</text><text start="839.199" dur="3.921">where you can</text><text start="839.839" dur="4.881">view java applets run java programs</text><text start="843.12" dur="3.839">things along those lines so that's kind</text><text start="844.72" dur="4">of cool next we have ibm internet</text><text start="846.959" dur="3.68">connection for os2</text><text start="848.72" dur="3.359">and as we look at the programs here this</text><text start="850.639" dur="4.32">is basically where</text><text start="852.079" dur="3.681">things are set up for using the modem so</text><text start="854.959" dur="4">running these</text><text start="855.76" dur="6.16">concepts here may result in trying to</text><text start="858.959" dur="4.161">launch a modem connection and we're not</text><text start="861.92" dur="2.88">set up that way so</text><text start="863.12" dur="4">we won't explore these we'll just leave</text><text start="864.8" dur="2.32">this be</text><text start="869.199" dur="4.161">next we have the connections section and</text><text start="870.88" dur="4.639">i find this fascinating actually</text><text start="873.36" dur="4">the intent here was to bring all of your</text><text start="875.519" dur="4.961">different connections to one window kind</text><text start="877.36" dur="6.479">of like my computer on modern machines</text><text start="880.48" dur="4.719">you can go browse drive c you can look</text><text start="883.839" dur="4.961">at your printers or your network</text><text start="885.199" dur="7.041">and your network services kinda cool</text><text start="888.8" dur="3.44">you can also look at websites</text><text start="893.36" dur="4.4">and now we can actually see a collection</text><text start="896.24" dur="4.159">of different websites</text><text start="897.76" dur="3.759">i think that we even have some airlines</text><text start="900.399" dur="3.041">that no longer exist</text><text start="901.519" dur="3.921">like transworld airlines which is in</text><text start="903.44" dur="3.44">here so that's kind of neat</text><text start="905.44" dur="4.079">as well as a lot of different computing</text><text start="906.88" dur="4.48">sites entertainment and reference</text><text start="909.519" dur="3.44">and web search you've got disney for</text><text start="911.36" dur="3.76">entertainment</text><text start="912.959" dur="4.161">epicurious some of these other things</text><text start="915.12" dur="3.839">from back in the day some of them are</text><text start="917.12" dur="5.839">still around today</text><text start="918.959" dur="6">different banks web search sites like</text><text start="922.959" dur="3.361">alta vista i remember back when that was</text><text start="924.959" dur="3.12">a thing</text><text start="926.32" dur="4.24">i think that there might be one web</text><text start="928.079" dur="6.241">search site that is conspicuously absent</text><text start="930.56" dur="3.76">from this list that begins with a g</text><text and sports so there you have it</text><text start="949.68" dur="2.8">i think we need to try and click on one</text><text start="951.04" dur="3.28">of these i don't think any of them are</text><text start="952.48" dur="3.279">going to work</text><text start="954.32" dur="4.16">let's pick something that's still around</text><text start="955.759" dur="2.721">like adobe</text><text start="960.16" dur="6.08">and indeed this takes us to adobe.com</text><text start="962.32" dur="3.92">but there are some problems going from</text><text start="966.839" dur="4.12">there</text><text start="968.32" dur="4.48">next we have the assistance center where</text><text start="970.959" dur="3.761">we've got information on troubleshooting</text><text start="972.8" dur="4.24">and software updates and some technical</text><text start="974.72" dur="2.32">notes</text><text start="977.279" dur="4.161">so basically an online guide here with</text><text start="979.199" dur="3.841">an information which is kind of neat</text><text start="981.44" dur="3.12">an index for help so you can look at</text><text start="983.04" dur="3.28">different help os2</text><text start="993.68" dur="5.12">next we have os2 system and we can see a</text><text start="997.519" dur="4.081">lot of the different</text><text start="998.8" dur="3.92">setup options the
