restarted today an aide to the</text><text start="12.799" dur="4.32">ukrainian president zielinski who was at</text><text start="14.88" dur="3.76">the meeting says that the</text><text start="17.119" dur="4.561">that they discussed a potential</text><text start="18.64" dur="5.44">ceasefire and troop withdrawal but the</text><text start="21.68" dur="4.919">russian foreign minister sergey lavrov</text><text start="24.08" dur="5.519">says moscow still needs ukraine to</text><text start="26.599" dur="4.281">demilitarize and abandon its efforts to</text><text start="29.599" dur="3.841">join nato</text><text start="30.88" dur="4.48">let&amp;#39;s bring in evo dalter now he&amp;#39;s a</text><text start="33.44" dur="4.16">former u.s ambassador to nato during the</text><text start="35.36" dur="4.719">obama administration ambassador thank</text><text start="37.6" dur="4.88">you zelinski&amp;#39;s aide says the talks have</text><text start="40.079" dur="3.761">been difficult and vicious but he</text><text start="42.48" dur="4.16">insists there&amp;#39;s still room for</text><text start="43.84" dur="5.28">compromise do you believe it</text><text start="46.64" dur="4.64">well i hope so i mean clearly uh</text><text start="49.12" dur="4.32">getting a a political solution to this</text><text start="51.28" dur="5.439">that leads to the withdrawal of russian</text><text start="53.44" dur="5.599">forces and a return to uh at least the</text><text start="56.719" dur="4.48">the status quo ante before uh before the</text><text start="59.039" dur="4.561">war started would be a terrific thing</text><text start="61.199" dur="5.28">given all the damage and that is being</text><text start="63.6" dur="5.04">done uh but i do think the two sides are</text><text start="66.479" dur="4.96">are pretty far apart and uh they can&amp;#39;t</text><text start="68.64" dur="4.64">even agree on on a local ceasefire to</text><text start="71.439" dur="3.441">allow humanitarian aid to come into</text><text start="73.28" dur="3.76">places like mario poll that have now</text><text start="74.88" dur="2.96">been besieged for over a week</text><text start="77.04" dur="2.32">so</text><text start="77.84" dur="2.88">i think we have to be realistic the</text><text start="79.36" dur="3.36">chances are small</text><text start="80.72" dur="3.68">what kind of message do you think</text><text start="82.72" dur="3.439">president biden is sending by going to</text><text start="84.4" dur="3.84">europe and what if anything will it</text><text start="86.159" dur="3.841">actually accomplish</text><text start="88.24" dur="3.44">i think it&amp;#39;s an important message by the</text><text start="90" dur="4.479">president to say that</text><text start="91.68" dur="5.119">we stand with our allies uh first of all</text><text start="94.479" dur="4.081">in nato which is why he&amp;#39;s having a</text><text start="96.799" dur="4.401">a meeting of nato it&amp;#39;s very important</text><text start="98.56" dur="5.04">that nato address and start adjusting to</text><text start="101.2" dur="6.08">the new reality of a of a strong</text><text start="103.6" dur="5.68">militarily capable uh russia that uh uh</text><text start="107.28" dur="4.799">is obviously willing to use force to get</text><text start="109.28" dur="4.32">what it uh what it wants uh and that we</text><text start="112.079" dur="2.881">adjust to that so that&amp;#39;s number one and</text><text start="113.6" dur="3.28">number two he&amp;#39;s going to also have a</text><text start="114.96" dur="4.24">meeting with our european allies in the</text><text start="116.88" dur="4.4">european union and it&amp;#39;s it&amp;#39;s the very</text><text start="119.2" dur="3.84">sanctions and economic steps that europe</text><text start="121.28" dur="3.76">and the united states and many other</text><text start="123.04" dur="4.079">countries have been taken that is really</text><text start="125.04" dur="3.839">putting the squeeze on russia</text><text start="127.119" dur="4.241">and ultimately to those sanctions and</text><text start="128.879" dur="4.881">the political isolation uh that we are</text><text start="131.36" dur="4.8">engaged in through our diplomacy uh that</text><text start="133.76" dur="3.839">hopefully will will lead to a change in</text><text start="136.16" dur="4.079">russian policy if not a change in</text><text start="137.599" dur="4.881">russian leadership quickly before we go</text><text start="140.239" dur="4.561">lots of pressure no putin movement what</text><text start="142.48" dur="3.759">moves the needle</text><text start="144.8" dur="2.88">you know i think the only thing that</text><text start="146.239" dur="4.481">moves the needle is for the people of</text><text start="147.68" dur="6.16">russia uh and those around putin to</text><text start="150.72" dur="5.84">realize that uh he has led them into a</text><text start="153.84" dur="4.96">dead end a very costly dead end for the</text><text start="156.56" dur="3.679">economy for the people for the russian</text><text start="158.8" dur="4.079">soldiers and russian families and of</text><text start="160.239" dur="4.241">course for ukrainians and to say uh</text><text start="162.879"
