by the</text><text start="4204.08" dur="7.68">operating system running on the machine</text><text start="4208.36" dur="5.85">unfortunately for os/2 we don't have</text><text start="4211.76" dur="2.45">that</text><text start="4215.3" dur="5.69">call us crazy twenty years ago there was</text><text start="4217.79" dur="8.64">no such there wasn't even such a thought</text><text start="4220.99" dur="7.99">so modern machines that bridge the gap</text><text start="4226.43" dur="5.46">have what's called a compatibility</text><text start="4228.98" dur="5.49">support module with CSM which is a</text><text start="4231.89" dur="6.21">software component of UEFI which</text><text start="4234.47" dur="5.55">emulates that bios so the system can</text><text start="4238.1" dur="5.94">boot up in other words you go in to buy</text><text start="4240.02" dur="10.95">a set of a new talat UEFI mode or i hate</text><text start="4244.04" dur="8.85">this word because with legacy mode in</text><text start="4250.97" dur="5.67">legacy mode the compatibility support</text><text start="4252.89" dur="7.74">module is turned on and the system will</text><text start="4256.64" dur="6.08">boot like any other traditional PC and</text><text start="4260.63" dur="7.08">os was very happy</text><text start="4262.72" dur="8.44">the newest machines do not ship with a</text><text start="4267.71" dur="7.92">compatibility support module so they</text><text start="4271.16" dur="9.51">require a UEFI aware operating system in</text><text start="4275.63" dur="8.1">order to run now there are ways around</text><text start="4280.67" dur="5.46">that there is a software compatibility</text><text start="4283.73" dur="5.36">support module which essentially is a</text><text start="4286.13" dur="5.52">UEFI aware operating system unto itself</text><text start="4289.09" dur="4.48">which boots up and then allows you to</text><text start="4291.65" dur="6.81">boot whatever you need to boot after</text><text start="4293.57" dur="7.38">that that is our ticket out and that is</text><text start="4298.46" dur="5.58">the route that we will in all</text><text start="4300.95" dur="6.21">probability take to resolve the UEFI</text><text start="4304.04" dur="6.51">problem we have not looked at it closely</text><text start="4307.16" dur="7.26">yet expect some functionality like that</text><text start="4310.55" dur="6.27">in our go s6 unless we need it sooner</text><text start="4314.42" dur="5.28">than that I mean really that's what it</text><text start="4316.82" dur="6.96">is so it's not as daunting a task as it</text><text start="4319.7" dur="4.59">once seemed it would be but we haven't</text><text start="4323.78" dur="4.74">gotten there yet</text><text start="4324.29" dur="6.06">we again like the JFS thing we have a</text><text start="4328.52" dur="3.48">system that works we know that there is</text><text start="4330.35" dur="3.48">still hardware manufacturer</text><text start="4332" dur="5.31">that does have compatibility support</text><text start="4333.83" dur="7.139">module in the hardware were able to use</text><text start="4337.31" dur="6.59">it so we haven't tackled that issue not</text><text start="4340.969" dur="4.171">only that we have it or workarounds</text><text start="4343.9" dur="3.43">revelation</text><text start="4345.14" dur="4.62">yeah not as good as running on wall</text><text start="4347.33" dur="4.47">hardware but with you Fi</text><text start="4349.76" dur="3.36">it gets very vague whether you're really</text><text start="4351.8" dur="3.96">running on the real hardware or not</text><text start="4353.12" dur="4.53">anyhow once you stick a coreboot module</text><text start="4355.76" dur="4.77">in there that's true that's true</text><text start="4357.65" dur="6.42">I mean we're not what's the definition</text><text start="4360.53" dur="5.37">of virtualization I mean what's the</text><text start="4364.07" dur="4.74">definition of bare metal it gets really</text><text start="4365.9" dur="5.04">gray in between where it used to be a</text><text start="4368.81" dur="4.32">very hard and fast line between booting</text><text start="4370.94" dur="4.44">a machine on bare metal and building a</text><text start="4373.13" dur="5.79">machine underneath another operating</text><text start="4375.38" dur="4.94">system but yeah virtualization is</text><text start="4378.92" dur="5.069">another way at</text><text start="4380.32" dur="7.86">arkanoid position is that we want to</text><text start="4383.989" dur="6.571">provide a modern os/2 that will run on</text><text start="4388.18" dur="8.32">bare metal and not have to be</text><text start="4390.56" dur="7.83">virtualized if getting us on UEFI</text><text start="4396.5" dur="4.07">Hardware requires that we use a core</text><text start="4398.39" dur="5.82">boot module to take the place of that</text><text start="4400.57" dur="6.7">CSM then we'll deal with that
