would be like 30 rats</text><text start="15.151" dur="2.115">every time I opened the barn door,</text><text start="17.266" dur="1.809">and they would scurry around,</text><text start="19.075" dur="2.215">and I would hope that none
of them would stay around.</text><text start="21.29" dur="1.576">And, one time I went back
to the house and I said,</text><text start="22.866" dur="1.927">&amp;quot;Dad, can you come with me?&amp;quot;</text><text start="24.793" dur="1.91">And he locked the door and he says,</text><text start="26.703" dur="1.501">&amp;quot;Go out and do your chores.</text><text start="28.204" dur="2.671">And don&amp;#39;t come back until they&amp;#39;re done.&amp;quot;</text><text start="30.875" dur="2.374">It was kinda the beginning
of me realizing that</text><text start="33.249" dur="1.934">I wasn&amp;#39;t in a supportive environment.</text><text start="35.183" dur="1.84">And I learned one thing,
and one thing only,</text><text start="37.023" dur="1.964">is that if I was willing to work hard,</text><text start="38.987" dur="1.512">then I could get my dad&amp;#39;s attention.</text><text start="40.499" dur="2.803">I remember waking up, I was
about 13 or 14 years old,</text><text start="43.302" dur="1.937">and this was the day
my dad had promised me</text><text start="45.239" dur="1.476">it was gonna be yes.</text><text start="46.715" dur="1.909">This was the day we were
gonna play together.</text><text start="48.624" dur="1.569">We were gonna throw the
football back and forth,</text><text start="50.193" dur="1.342">and I was super excited.</text><text start="51.535" dur="2.729">I popped out of my bed
and I ran down the stairs,</text><text start="54.264" dur="3.331">and I saw my father where he always is.</text><text start="57.595" dur="3.441">His ankle is chained to the desk.</text><text start="61.036" dur="3.692">But as I got closer, I
knew something was wrong.</text><text start="64.728" dur="3.368">It was like I could feel there

just puts itself there?</text><text start="100.36" dur="1.978">Money doesn&amp;#39;t grow on trees, you know?</text><text start="102.338" dur="2.377">One day you&amp;#39;re gonna have
to work hard for money.</text><text start="104.715" dur="5">Now, get out and play on your
own before I put you to work.&amp;quot;</text><text start="110.447" dur="3.083">And I turned around and I walked out,</text><text start="114.536" dur="3.875">and I never asked him again to play, ever.</text><text start="118.411" dur="4.601">I don&amp;#39;t have one memory of
playing with my dad, not one.</text><text start="123.012" dur="2.532">The only way I connected with him</text><text start="125.544" dur="1.882">was when he was working
around the house doing chore,</text><text start="127.426" dur="1.15">I&amp;#39;d say, &amp;quot;Dad, can I help you?&amp;quot;</text><text start="128.576" dur="4.597">I&amp;#39;d hand him the nails, or
I&amp;#39;d hold the measuring tape.</text><text start="133.173" dur="1.733">It was the only way.</text><text start="134.906" dur="1.89">He never once, he never
came to my hockey games.</text><text start="136.796" dur="3.118">He dropped me off in the
car and stayed in the car.</text><text start="139.914" dur="2.344">All the other parents

look, but he never did.</text><text start="151.04" dur="2.285">I remember winning honors in school</text><text start="153.325" dur="4.794">for academic achievement,
looking out in the crowd</text><text start="158.119" dur="3.521">hoping to see my dad,
but he was never there.</text><text start="161.64" dur="2.186">So the only solace I had was to work hard.</text><text start="163.826" dur="1.216">So, I doubled down on that.</text><text start="165.042" dur="1.014">And I worked hard.</text><text start="166.056" dur="1.89">And, I&amp;#39;d call him out to
look at the task being done</text><text start="167.946" dur="2.101">and invariably, it was never good enough.</text><text start="170.047" dur="1.784">So, I doubled down again and work harder.</text><text start="171.831" dur="1.497">It didn&amp;#39;t feel good at the time.</text><text start="173.328" dur="2.655">But, in life if you do what is easy,</text><text start="175.983" dur="1.399">life will be difficult.</text><text start="177.382" dur="3.09">But, if you do what is
difficult, life will be easy.</text><text start="180.472" dur="2.109">I got the difficult part out front.</text><text start="182.581" dur="1.106">And I got really good at it.</text><text start="183.687" dur="0.849">By the time I was 14,</text><text start="184.536" dur="1.42">I saved up enough money to get a scooter.</text><text start="185.956" dur="2.152">By the time I was 16 I had my first car.</text><text start="188.108" dur="1.744">By the time I was 17, I
thought; you know what?</text><text start="189.852" dur="2.388">I&amp;#39;m outta here, this sucks.</text><text start="192.24" dur="1.923">I mean, I could go out and
make four times the amount</text><text start="194.163" dur="1.012">of money living on my own</text><text start="195.175" dur="1.904">even if I have to pay rent, I don&amp;#39;t care.</text><text start="197.079" dur="2.362">So, I moved out, I drove a taxi.</text><text start="199.441" dur="3.187">I did carpentry, I cut
lawns, I washed windows,</text><text start="202.628" dur="1.866">I did anything that was hard work.</text><text start="204.494" dur="1.915">Because that&amp;#39;s all I knew.</text><text start="206.409" dur="2.573">Then, my life changed.</text><text start="208.982" dur="4.144">I got a call from my stepmom and she said,</text><text start="213.126" dur="1.478">&amp;quot;You&amp;#39;re dad has cancer.&amp;quot;</text><text start="214.604" dur="1.765">So, I jumped on a plane and
I did everything I could.</text><text start="216.369" dur="1.136">I took care of the house.</text><text start="217.505" dur="1.908">He said to me he had some back taxes</text><text start="219.413" dur="1.247">from Canada that were unpaid.</text><text start="220.66" dur="1.356">I said, &amp;quot;Yes, I&amp;#39;ll pay them for you&amp;quot;.</text><text start="222.016" dur="1.655">I did everything I possibly could.</text><text start="223.671" dur="2.596">I remember the day I had to leave to back</text><text start="226.267" dur="3.181">to take care of my family, I
had a young son at the time.</text><text start="229.448" dur="1.777">And they had nothing left.</text><text start="231.225" dur="3.078">And I asked my dad, he was
probably about 98 pounds,</text><text start="234.303" dur="0.962">Laying in the bed, and I said,</text><text start="235.265" dur="4.417">&amp;quot;Dad, can you think of a
time when I made you proud?&amp;quot;</text><text start="241.769" dur="4.363">and I&amp;#39;m thinking to myself, my
god, there was a whole bunch.</text><text start="246.132" dur="2.617">I was almost a millionaire by that time.</text><text start="248.749" dur="1.931">I had done so many things, I had risen up,</text><text start="250.68" dur="2.163">I&amp;#39;d opened a restaurant,
I&amp;#39;d learned a new language,</text><text start="252.843" dur="1.051">I&amp;#39;d done so many things.</text><text start="253.894" dur="1.073">This was gonna be the

actually, I was fired from my job,</text><text start="271.475" dur="2.325">my marriage had fallen apart,</text><text start="273.8" dur="2.235">I had no money left, that
I&amp;#39;d paid to support him,</text><text start="276.035" dur="2.029">so got evicted from my
apartment, and I moved back in</text><text start="278.064" dur="2.728">with my mom at the age of 30.</text><text start="280.792" dur="2.279">So, there I am, 30 years
old working 16 hours a day</text><text start="283.071" dur="3.007">for 20 years and I have
absolutely nothing to show for it,</text><text start="286.078" dur="2.93">except maybe a skill
set on how to work hard.</text><text start="289.008" dur="0.833">But, I&amp;#39;ll tell you what,</text><text start="289.841" dur="2.5">when you&amp;#39;re down there and
think there&amp;#39;s nothing left,</text><text start="292.341" dur="2.466">it&amp;#39;s the foundation to grow from.</text><text start="294.807" dur="1.459">I thought, what am I gonna do now?</text><text start="296.266" dur="2.816">And some little bird,
mentioned real estate.</text><text start="299.082" dur="1.083">So, I thought I&amp;#39;d get into real estate.</text><text start="300.165" dur="2.728">And I got into real estate
and that&amp;#39;s when I met my first</text><text start="302.893" dur="2.06">mentor that transformed my life.</text><text start="304.953" dur="1.993">I was in my office one night really late</text><text start="306.946" dur="2.161">and I was having a
conversation with my mentor.</text><text start="309.107" dur="2.361">And he walks in and he leans
against the door, and he goes,</text><text start="311.468" dur="0.901">&amp;quot;You&amp;#39;re still here?&amp;quot;</text><text start="312.369" dur="1.915">and I said, &amp;quot;Yeah.&amp;quot;</text><text start="314.284" dur="4.295">And he goes, &amp;quot;you really

favorite is Clint Eastwood.</text><text start="360.311" dur="1.252">He&amp;#39;s like, rugged.</text><text start="361.563" dur="1.153">I&amp;#39;m kind of rugged, I feel rugged.&amp;quot;</text><text start="362.716" dur="2.451">He goes, &amp;quot;Perfect, how does
