I had to feed 22 horses every morningbefore I earned the right to havebreakfast imagine an eight and a halfyear old kid getting up in the dark inCanada and going outside and opening thebarn door and I remember it would belike 30 rats every time I opened thebarn door and they would scurry aroundand I would hope that none of them wouldstay around and one time I went back tothe house I said dad can you come withme and he locked the door and he says goout and do your chores and don't comeback until they're done it was kind ofthe beginning of me realizing that Iwasn't in a supportive environment and Ilearned one thing and one thing only isthat if I was willing to work hard thenI could get my dad's attention but Iremember waking up I was about 13 or 14years old and this was the day my dadhad promised me it was going to be yesthis was the day we were gonna playtogether we're gonna throw the footballback and forth and I was super excited Iwalked out of my bed and I went down thestairs and I saw my father where healways is his ankle is chained to thedesk but as I got closer I knewsomething was wrong it was like I couldI could feel there was a heaviness inthe air and I started to get nervous Iknow dad yesI mean you ready to go play and theweirdest thing happened is he turned helooked at me and I felt myself shrinkingdown and he stood up and this shadowcast over me but he goes do you have anyidea what it takes to put food on thetable do you think that this roof justputs itself there money doesn't grow ontrees you know one day you're gonna haveto work hard for money now get out andplay on your own before I put you towork and I never asked to beginI don't have one member you playing withmy dad not one the only way I connectedwith him was when he was working aroundthe house through chore I'd say dad canI help you at hand in the nails or I'dhold the measuring tape does he onlywhat he never once he never came to myhockey games he dropped me off in thecar and stayed in the car all the otherparents were tying their skates I wasthere alone I would try to score as manygoals as I could so I could go in andtell him how I score the winning goalsso he'd want to come and look I neverdidI remember winning honors in school foracademic achievement looking out in thecrowdhoping to see my dad but he was neverthere so the only solace I had was towork hard so I doubled down on that andI worked hard and I'd call him out tolook at the task being done andinvariably it was never good enough so Idoubled down again and work harder itdidn't feel good at the time but in lifewhat you do if you do what is easy whyit'll be difficult but if you do thisdifficult I will be easy I got thedifficult part upfront and I got reallygood at it by the time I was 14 I savedup enough money to get a scooter but Iwas 16 I had my first car right I'm Iwas 17 I thought you know what I'm outof herethis sucks I mean I could go out andmake four times the amount of moneyliving on my own even if I have to payrentI don't care so I moved out I drove ataxi I did carpentry I cut lawns Iwashed windows I did anything that washard work because that's all I knew andthen my life changed I got a call frommy stepmom and she said your dad hascancer so I jumped on a plane and I dideverything I could I took care of thehouse he said to me he had some backtaxes from Canada that were unpaid Isaid yes I'll pay them for you I dideverything I possibly could and Iremember the day I had to leave to goback to take care of my family I had ayoung son at the time and I had nothingleftasked my dad well he was probably 98pounds sitting lying in the bed and Isaid dad can you think of a time when umwhen I made you proud and I'm thinkingto myself there's a whole bunch I I wasalmost a millionaire by that time I haddone so many things I've risen up I'dopened a restaurant I've new learned anew language done so many things thiswas the time he's gonna go of course sonlet me read from the list but insteadand I don't know if it broke my spiritor if I thought I had hit rock bottom Ihit another layer but when I got backhome actually I was fired for my job mymarriage had fallen apart I had no moneyleft at it that I'd paid to support himso I got evicted from my apartment and Imoved back at my mom with my mom at theage of 30 so there I am 30 years oldworking 16 hours a day for 20 years andI have absolutely nothing to show for itexcept maybe a skill set on how to workhard but I'll tell you what when you'redown there and you think there's nothingleft it's the foundation to grow from Ithought what am I gonna do now and somelittle bird mentioned real estate so Ithought I'd get into real estate I gotinto real estate and that's when I metmy first mentor that transformed my lifeI was in my office one night really lateand I was having a conversation with mymentor and he walks in and he leansagainst the door and he goes just stillhere and I said yeah and because youreally have a great work ethic when I'mtalking to me he was I'm talking to youbecause you're awesomelike he's still talking to me it's likeI never had anybody tell me that theybelieved in me my father certain wasalways you to do better you can dobetter you could do better yeah it droveme but it didn't make me feel confidentand I doubted it at first and we startedto talk and he goes oh so you've labeledyourself stupid as a loser and theskinny little kid he goes how do youfeel about that and I said I still feelthat way says you're 30 years old I goyeah I know but I still felt that wayinside he says okay we're gonna changeit who's an idol that you have and saidwell one of my favorite is is you knowlike Clint Eastwoodhe's like rugged I'm kind of rugged Ifeel rugged just perfect how does thatfeel when you say that so that feelspretty good because that's it I want youto say that a thousand times a thousandtimes every day or more if you wantloser out ruggedly handsome in so nowwhat we're gonna do is gonna reprogramyour brain your brain is like softwarewe're just gonna reprogram it I said howdid I do that he goes just every timeyou have a chance to say I'm ruggedlyhandsomewe handsome to the words that follow Iam follow you you just didn't know ityou had shitty programming but now we'regonna change that and change thatforeverand I remember driving home I was soexcited I was so excited because I couldchange my program didn't know it Ithought it was stuck that way my wholelife and all I had to do was have theenergy to put into changing the way Isee myself and it was I just said itover on her screaming in the car merelycuz I'm ruggedly handsome ugly handsomeI'd get up in the morning I'd say itover and over and over again I'd say itas much as I possibly could and thenspontaneously one morning I was in theshower and I said I'm the greatest realestate agent in my area I'm the greatestreal estate agent in my ear and I wentfrom one sale on my first year to in afew years a hundred sales that brokeevery record there was and then I boughtthe frickin company but from from farmboy to financially free I becameresourceful I became capable of doingthings I didn't know I was going to dothe most powerful force in the humanpsyche is how we describe ourselves toour self who's giving you labels you tooshort you're too tall you're quietyou're introverted and you take on thoselabels and you wear them like they'reyour persona and then you live in tothem like a role that you were given inlife you can rewrite that you can makeit whatever you want insert it and thenprogram it I am I am you
