start="432" dur="3.44">cd from the drive so it doesn't try and</text><text start="434.16" dur="3.92">boot on it and</text><text start="435.44" dur="3.759">we can click on restart so all good</text><text start="438.08" dur="3.36">stuff</text><text start="439.199" dur="3.681">almost done there's a couple more things</text><text start="441.44" dur="4.08">we need to do after i go ahead and</text><text start="442.88" dur="2.64">restart here</text><text start="445.759" dur="4.321">so we can log in by doing control delete</text><text start="448.88" dur="3.439">since control is a</text><text start="748.48" dur="5.039">profile so now we can go remote boot new</text><text start="751.44" dur="2.8">profile and go to configurations and we</text><text start="753.519" dur="3.921">have a</text><text start="754.24" dur="5.92">dos 622 3com etherlink3 profile</text><text start="757.44" dur="3.76">perfect so let's go ahead and name it</text><text start="760.16" dur="4.16">accordingly</text><text start="761.2" dur="4.72">nice long descriptive name okay and we</text><text start="764.32" dur="5.12">now have a profile</text><text start="765.92" dur="4.56">that's great so at this point we can</text><text start="769.44" dur="3.68">actually start</text><text start="770.48" dur="3.44">booting the system and it will put an</text><text dur="3.44">however we have not authorized or</text><text start="780.8" dur="4.159">assigned it to a profile</text><text start="782.48" dur="4.24">so we can convert the adapter and then</text><text start="784.959" dur="4.161">go down and choose the workstation</text><text start="786.72" dur="5.04">profile we care about and give it a name</text><text start="789.12" dur="4.959">so i'm just going to call it 486 dx4 and</text><text start="791.76" dur="4.48">we have our default profile selected</text><text start="794.079" dur="3.361">so there you have it now if we return</text><text start="796.24" dur="2.88">back to the system</text><text start="797.44" dur="3.519">it will catch when to this and it will</text><text start="799.12" dur="3.36">continue the boot process and it will</text><text start="800.959" dur="3.361">now forever boot</text><text start="802.48" dur="3.84">and it's asking us for our username and</text><text start="804.32" dur="4.16">password we did not set one</text><text start="806.32" dur="3.199">so we can just wait for that to timeout</text><text start="808.48" dur="4.359">and look at that</text><text start="809.519" dur="6.641">we're now booting ms-dos isn't that</text><text start="812.839" dur="5.881">cool all right so we have a nice c</text><text start="816.16" dur="3.6">prompt we can explore a little bit let's</text><text start="818.72" dur="3.2">look around</text><text start="819.76" dur="4.16">we'll see a variety of files we have a</text><text start="821.92" dur="2.88">nice data directory where we can put</text><text start="823.92" dur="2.8">data in</text><text start="824.8" dur="4">i'll go ahead and edit a test file and</text><text start="826.72" dur="4">put a line in there just to show that</text><text start="828.8" dur="3.039">kind of cool we can save this in this</text><text start="830.72" dur="3.84">location</text><text start="831.839" dur="5.44">very nice that said there are some</text><text start="834.56" dur="4.88">locations where we can't save files</text><text start="837.279" dur="4.24">so i'm going to change into the bin</text><text start="839.44" dur="4.8">directory or at least one of them here</text><text start="841.519" dur="4.56">the bin b directory and if we go there</text><text start="844.24" dur="3.44">and try to put a file it's going to be</text><text start="846.079" dur="2.721">read only but we'll give it a shot just</text><text start="847.68" dur="4.159">so you can see</text><text start="848.8" dur="5.2">so i cannot save this file in here i get</text><text start="851.839" dur="4.081">a path file access error</text><text start="854" dur="3.519">of course i'll try it twice because why</text><text start="855.92" dur="3.84">not and once again</text><text start="857.519" dur="4.641">a path file access error so let's get</text><text start="859.76" dur="2.4">out of here</text><text start="862.24" dur="3.839">so the other thing i'm curious about is</text><text start="864" dur="4">if we edit autoexet bat</text><text start="866.079" dur="4.241">will the change be persisted through a</text><text start="868" dur="3.36">reboot so we can go to the bottom of the</text><text start="870.32" dur="3.28">file here</text><text start="871.36" dur="3.36">and go ahead and add a line we'll say</text><text start="873.6" dur="4.96">echo will this</text><text start="874.72" dur="7.2">change be saved</text><text start="878.56" dur="6.24">after reboot and we'll just go ahead and</text><text start="881.92" dur="3.44">save the file and let's go ahead and</text><text start="884.8" dur="2.24">reboot</text><text start="885.36" dur="3.039">and lo and behold it does it echoed out</text><text start="887.04" dur="4.56">to the console so</text><text start="888.399" dur="4.641">the change was saved cool so let's</text><text start="891.6" dur="1.919">explore what that looks like a little</text><text start="893.04" dur="2.96">bit</text><text start="893.519" dur="3.76">if we go into the rpl files and machines</text><text start="896" dur="3.519">the first thing we'll go look at</text><text start="897.279" dur="3.201">is the data directory and we can see</text><text start="899.519" dur="2.721">there's our test</text><text start="900.48" dur="4">file so it got saved within the</text><text start="902.24" dur="4.719">hierarchy of rpl files</text><text start="904.48" dur="5.28">that exists for remote boot we can even</text><text start="906.959" dur="4.88">make a copy of this file if so desired</text><text start="909.76" dur="3.36">and then if we return back to the dos</text><text start="911.839" dur="3.601">prompt and do a dir</text><text start="913.12" dur="4.719">we can see it's there no reboot was</text><text start="915.44" dur="4">necessary it was there immediately which</text><text start="917.839" dur="4">is actually a pretty cool feature</text><text start="919.44" dur="3.04">now as far as deciding which files are</text><text start="921.839" dur="2.8">where</text><text start="922.48" dur="4">which files are editable we have to look</text><text start="924.639" dur="3.76">at this fit file</text><text start="926.48" dur="3.919">and if we look at the fit file recall</text><text start="928.399" dur="4.24">earlier that we tried to save</text><text start="930.399" dur="3.841">files to a bin directory and if we</text><text start="932.639" dur="3.44">scroll down here a little bit we can see</text><text start="934.24" dur="4.399">there are some shared binary files</text><text start="936.079" dur="3.921">in the bin r and bin b directories and</text><text start="938.639" dur="3.921">those directories are not</text><text start="940" dur="4.48">editable however there's a whole section</text><text start="942.56" dur="4.16">for machine writable files</text><text start="944.48" dur="3.599">including the data directory and a work</text><text start="946.72" start="952.56" dur="4.32">and it explains the mappings between</text><text start="954.56" dur="4.56">where files actually live within the</text><text start="956.88" dur="4.16">windows nt 4.0 dur="6.159">is configure tcpip</text><text start="973.6" dur="5.44">for our dos session and the reason i</text><text start="976.399" dur="5">want to do this is my raspberry pi has</text><text driver</text><text start="1024.559" dur="4.64">that we need in order to make this work</text><text start="1026.88" dur="4.4">so excellent okay let's go ahead and</text><text start="1029.199" dur="3.281">save that</text><text start="1031.28" dur="3.12">the next thing we're going to do is</text><text start="1032.48" dur="3.52">actually modify this new profile that we</text><text
