similar to Louise I'mAustrian this endsguru soy crisps DCOsand my presentation is about the virtualfox a box five porting project was a bitdifficult to get everything done but weall everything seems to work fine okaythe port is done by developers ofMidwest borax and important to notice itwas funded by xeuwhat's the status of the project thestatus of the project it's nearingcompletion nearing completion means thatby and large it works already it's niceto be able to say it's fast and it'sstable however there are a few minor andnot so minor features the missingbasically the question is why water boxon always tools two reasons first of allI guess we are all here because we liketo run always through on a bare metalnothing beats that for us at least andthe second point is and this one matchesour philosophy at device works we wantto enhance the number of programs wereable to run on an OS to machine we dothat for Qtwe do that for Java we try to do thatand we'll continue to do this for SVTand for all the stuff that doesn't runon one of these platforms we chose watchout box with water box we have thepossibility to run a modern Windowsversion inside our beloved os/2 and getthose applications running that refusedto run otherwise basically there are twodifferent versions of VirtualBox one isthe SD l version SD l stands for simpledirect layer it's a ratherstraightforward version it shares allthe functionality completely with themore enhanced QT version however the SDLversion has no fancy QE to manage allthe settings you have to use the verypowerful command-line interface fromVirtualBox and yes as I've written ithas no bells and whistles the benefit isit has a lower memory footprint as youprobably know memories is an importantissue with or with - is especially theshared memory the lower shared memoryarena the SD l version version has alower memory fat footprint on this arenathe second version is and that's thecomplete version that's usually theversion we've all we've seen fromwindows installations so there'ssecurity version it has all theconfiguration options placed in apowerful dialogue that dialog is rathereasy to use and everything has placedhas been placed in there in addition italso has an Isaac UE during runtimegiving you an indication of what theguest machine is currently doing that'shard disk access that's network that'smouse integration all the stuff withregard to memory yes about 16 megabytesit's 16 megabytes bigger during runtimedown the SDL version okay as you allknow Paul's madly some years ago did aquick part of of VirtualBox 1.6 but itstill works for sure but it's gettingold quite simply you can't installmodern Windows versions in it everythingbeyond when the Windows XP cannot beinstalled oh you might use VirtualBox ona Windows machine to clone create tocreate a Windows 7 8 or something gueston a Windows machine and transfer thatback to the old 4 VBox 1.6 on alwaysthrough it that works however you haveto fiddle and find the right guestadditions historical ones which are thelast ones which work which provide whichfeatures you don't get all the featuresespecially especially the shared foldersI don't work for modern Windows versionsand all these shortcomingsovercome by our now new windows portingprojects you can install modern windowsin it and the bonus you are getting thesame the same guest on the same hardwareis much faster on waterboxx 5 than it ison waterboxx 1.6 in addition we intendto implement several features that weremissing on the old port most notably theshared key clip what we also will havethe shared folders working again and inaddition the new vertel box what will beour DP manageable so ok that waseverything that's could be saidbasically about the problem about theproject I have thatareathat one is now the STL version yes theL version also works completely you canuse for work it's also stable it justlacks the GUI that the Kilkee versionhasone nice feature is that it's perfectlypossible to use the old VirtualBox portand the new VirtualBox ports not exactnot in parallel but installed on thesame machinethis is especially nice during the timethe testing because I'm able to comparethe two directly that's why I know thatthe VBox 5 watt is much faster than thedandiya would one was but it requires todo so is to keep the two separatedbecause if you don't do that the new onewill overwrite the configuration filesfrom the old one and yes you end up thatthe old ones dead in addition both VBoxports need a driver and the driver forthe old one has to be patched in orderto be significantly different patchingthe rabbit is especially easy becauseyou just have to patch the name of theinternal name of the driver and yourcurrents for the driver in the bottlebox files just in two places and that'sit and by this way you can have themperfectly workable without having toreboot and reinstall there's one secondthing you have to do you have to specifya different home environment veryvariable if you do that you can take theold configuration copy it in a newlocation let the home environmentvariable point to that to that new placeand do a simple search and replaceoperation to replace the drive toreflect to the new location in order tobe able to start it I created some seapoor command-line files that only havetwo the lines of comment had two linesof code so in order to run it to run theconfiguration Yui I just call VirtualBoxwith weather changed home environmentvariable for the STL version I startedas DL executable running the made guestto start with openoffice andFirefox and VirtualBox side by sidethe biggest danger you are in is notthat the problems are and stay bloodthat they are bad you simply run out ofshared memory and the SDL version easesthis problem le but when we release thefinal version of it we will be able tohave all the dll libraries treated withhymens so this is hopefully not going tobe a problem and the version is
