since Google I/O we have been </text><text start="2814.237" dur="4.253">working hard, continuing our
shift from a mobile first to an </text><text start="2818.491" dur="4.308">AI first world. We are
rethinking all of our core </text><text start="2822.8" dur="6.359">products and working hard to
solve user problems by applying </text><text start="2829.16" dur="6.332">machine learning in AI. Let me
give you an example, recently I </text><text start="2835.493" dur="2">was in Nigeria</text><text start="2838.579" dur="4.217">. It was a City of 21 million
people. It is an incredibly </text><text start="2842.797" dur="4.262">dynamic, vibrant, ever-growing
city, many people are coming </text><text start="2847.06" dur="5.322">online for the first time. It
is very exciting unless you </text><text start="2852.383" dur="4.271">happen to be in the Google map
team and you have to map the </text><text start="2856.655" dur="6.353">city! It is changing so fast.
Normally we map a place by using</text><text start="2864.058" dur="3.194"> Street View and doing a lot of
stuff automatically. It is </text><text start="2867.253" dur="3.261">difficult to do it in a place
like this because the city is </text><text start="2870.515" dur="5.35">changing, you can't always see
the signage clearly, and there </text><text start="2875.866" dur="6.672">are variable address issues.
Take that house there, if you </text><text start="2882.539" dur="1.095">squint hard you can see the
street number there, it is </text><text start="2883.635" dur="4.235">number 3 to the left of the
gate. That was relatively easy.</text><text start="2887.871" dur="4.285"> The harder
problem now, that house, that's </text><text start="2892.157" dur="4.263">what we see from Street View,
as humans it is probably very </text><text start="2896.421" dur="4.263">hard, maybe one, two of you can
spot it out, but our computer </text><text start="2900.685" dur="3.203">vision system thanks to machine
learning can pick it out, </text><text start="2903.889" dur="7.369">identify the street number and
start mapping the house. We </text><text start="2911.259" dur="3.198">approached them completely
differently, deploying machine </text><text start="2914.458" dur="2.132">learning from the ground up and
in five months the team was able</text><text start="2917.655" dur="5.353"> to map 5,000 kilometers of new
roads, 50,000 new addresses and </text><text start="2923.009" dur="4.213">100,000 businesses. Something
which makes a real difference </text><text start="2927.223" dur="5.286">for millions of users there as
Google Maps is popular. We </text><text start="2932.51" dur="5.279">think this approach is broadly
applicable. Let's come closer </text><text start="2937.79" dur="3.199">to home. Parking in San
Francisco. I don't even try it </text><text start="2940.99" dur="4.272">anymore, but for those of you
who try it, we again use machine</text><text start="2945.263" dur="3.219"> learning. We understand
location data, we try to </text><text start="2948.483" dur="3.215">understand patterns, cars
circling around, and the color </text><text start="2951.699" dur="5.301">shows the density of parking and
we can analyze it throughout </text><text start="2957.001" dur="3.201">the day and look at the parking
difficulty and in</text><text start="2960.203" dur="3.212">Google maps give you options.
It is a simple example but it is</text><text start="2963.416" dur="3.225"> a every day use case which
we're using machine learning to </text><text start="2966.642" dur="4.298">make a difference. The best
example I can think of, what we </text><text start="2970.941" dur="4.27">have talked about before is
Google Translation. I </text><text start="2975.212" dur="4.45">literally remember many years
ago adding translation in Chrome</text><text start="2979.663" dur="3.216"> making it automatic. If you
land on a page different from </text><text start="2982.88" dur="2.155">your language we do that for
you. Fast forward to today, </text><text start="2985.036" dur="4.572">with the power of machine
learning on the newer machine </text><text start="2989.609" dur="2.064">translation we have</text><text start="2994.752" dur="3.261"> 2 billion languages we served
every day. It is the power of a</text><text start="2998.014" dur="3.196"> problem, constantly using
computer science to make it </text><text start="3001.211" dur="4.289">better and seeing users respond
to it at scale. This is why </text><text start="3005.501" dur="4.272">we're excited about the shift
from a mobile first to a AI </text><text start="3009.774" dur="5.549">first world. It is not just
about applying machine learning </text><text start="3015.324" dur="3.353">in their products, but it is
radically rethinking how </text><text start="3018.678" dur="5.286">computing should work.
At a higher level in an AI </text><text start="3023.965" dur="3.247">first world I believe computers
should adapt to how people live </text><text start="3027.213" dur="4.267">their lives rather than people
having to adapt to computers. </text><text start="3031.481" dur="5.342">So we think about four core
attributes as part of this </text><text start="3036.824" dur="4.324">experience. First, people
should be able to interact with </text><text start="3041.149" dur="3.211">computing in a natural and
seamless way. Mobile took us a</text><text start="3044.361" dur="6.296"> step in this direction and
increasingly it has to be </text><text start="3050.658" dur="3.209">conversational, sensory. We
need to be able to use our voice</text><text start="3054.934" dur="5.27">, gestures, vision to make the
experience much more seamless. </text><text start="3061.264" dur="5.306">Second, it is going to be
ambient, computing will evolve </text><text start="3066.571" dur="4.244">beyond the phone, be there in
many screens around you when you</text><text start="3070.816" dur="7.096"> need it working for you.
Third, we think it needs to be </text><text start="3077.913" dur="4.286">contectual, mobile gave us
limited context with identity, </text><text start="3082.2" dur="3.149">location, we were able to
improve experience </text><text start="3085.35" dur="3.19">significantly. In the AI first
world we can have a lot more </text><text start="3088.541" dur="4.286">context and apply it
thoughtfully. For example, if </text><text start="3092.828" dur="3.221">you are into fitness and you
land in a new city we can </text><text start="3096.05" dur="2.126">suggest
running routes, maybe gyms </text><text start="3098.177" dur="5.352">nearby and healthy eating
options. In my case, being a </text><text start="3103.53" dur="3.204">vegetarian and having a weakness
for desserts, maybe suggest the</text><text start="3106.735" dur="4.273"> right restaurants for me.
Finally, and probably the most </text><text start="3111.009" dur="4.26">important of it all, in a
computing world, it needs to </text><text start="3115.27" dur="4.218">adapt constantly over time. It
doesn't work that way today. In</text><text start="3120.548" dur="4.279"> mobile, in a developer's rights
software and constantly </text><text start="3124.828" dur="4.278">shipping updates, but a small
example, I use Google Calendar </text><text start="3129.107" dur="5.313">all the time. On Sundays I get
a weekly view of what my week </text><text start="3134.421" dur="6.426">looks like, the workweek starts,
I want to view the next if few </text><text start="3140.848" dur="4.29">hours, I have to constantly
toggle back and forth. Google </text><text start="3145.139" dur="2.133">Calendar should automatically
understand my context and show </text><text start="3147.273" dur="4.282">me the right view. It is a very
simple example but software </text><text start="3151.556" dur="3.223">needs to fundamentally change
how it works, it needs to learn</text><text start="3154.78" dur="3.234"> and adapt. That applies to
important things like security </text><text start="3158.015" dur="6.357">and privacy as well. Today a
lot of us deal with security by </text><text start="3164.373" dur="3.209">putting the onus on users giving
them</text><text start="3167.583" dur="4.37">settings and toggles to improve
those. In an AI first world, we</text><text start="3171.954" dur="4.296"> can learn on an app and do it
thoughtfully for the users. For</text><text start="3176.251" dur="2.2"> example, if it is a
notification for your doctor's </text><text start="3178.452" dur="3.214">appointment, we need to treat it
sensitively and differently </text><text start="3181.667" dur="4.302">than just telling you when you
need to start driving to work.</text><text start="3187.024" dur="4.272"> We really are excited by the
shift. That's why we're here </text><text start="3191.297" dur="6.047">today. We have been working on
software and hardware together, </text><text start="3197.345" dur="1.065">because that's the best way to
drive the shifts in computing </text><text start="3198.411" dur="4.269">forward. We think we have the
unique moment in time where we </text><text start="3202.681" dur="5.319">can bring the combination of AI
and software and hardware, to </text><text start="3208.001" dur="6.356">bring a different perspective to
solving problems for users. </text><text start="3214.358" dur="3.234">We're very confident about our
approach here because we're at </text><text start="3217.593" dur="5.377">the forefront of driving the
shifts with AI. Three months </text><text start="3222.971" dur="7.394">ago at Google I/O, our teams
announced a new approach, auto </text><text start="3230.366" dur="4.246">ML, it is just our machines
automatically generating machine</text><text start="3234.613" dur="4.271"> learning models. Today these
are hand crafted by machine </text><text start="3238.885" dur="5.492">learning scientists. Literally
only a few thousands of </text><text start="3244.378" dur="4.297">scientists around the world can
do this, design the number of </text><text start="3248.676" dur="3.212">layers, connect the nuances
appropriately. It is very hard </text><text start="3251.889" dur="4.318">to do. We want to Democratize
this and bring it to more </text><text start="3256.208" dur="3.229">people. We want to enable
hundreds of thousands of </text><text start="3259.438" dur="2.134">developers to be able to do
it. We have been working on </text><text start="3261.573" dur="6.414">this technology called autoML
and in the past month for a </text><text start="3267.988" dur="2.238">standard task like image
classification, understanding </text><text start="3270.227" dur="5.343">images our autoML models are now
not only more accurate than the</text><text start="3276.625" dur="5.303"> best human generated models but
they're more resource </text><text start="3281.929" dur="4.282">efficient. It is amazing to
see. We're now taking it a step</text><text start="3286.212" dur="3.19"> further. Let me talk about
other use case object direction.</text><text start="3289.403" dur="4.431"> When we say object direction,
it is a fancy name for computers</text><text start="3293.835" dur="4.291"> trying to delineate and
understand images, being able to</text><text start="3299.195" dur="3.199"> draw bounding boxes and
distinguish between all of the </text><text start="3302.395" dur="4.256">vehicles there, scooters, mopeds
, motorcycles, even picking out </text><text start="3306.652" dur="4.274">the bike in front. It has a lot
of practical use cases. The </text><text start="3310.927" dur="3.195">street view for example works
based on object direction. </text><text start="3315.201" dur="3.089">Google Lens which you will hear
about later as well as our who </text><text start="3318.291" dur="2">will</text><text start="3323.396" dur="3.197"> holography uses object
direction. This is hard to do. </text><text start="3326.594" dur="5.332"> The models we have, it only has
39% accuracy but our auto </text><text start="3331.927" dur="3.235">models as of the past couple of
weeks have reached around</text><text start="3335.163" dur="5.316">43% accuracy. They're
constantly getting better. So </text><text start="3340.48" dur="4.203">the rate at which we're seeing
progress with AI is amazing </text><text start="3344.684" dur="3.2">which is why we are really
excited about combining it with </text><text start="3347.885" dur="4.249">our software and hardware to
bring it together for our users.</text><text start="3352.135" dur="4.464"> Let me give you a concrete
example. I was recently very </text><text start="3356.6" dur="4.197">inspired by this street from a
journalist who was looking at </text><text start="3360.798" dur="4.289">the little legal world series.
As you see, there are two </text><text start="3365.088" dur="4.216">little leaguers here, one from
the Dominican Republic, another </text><text start="3369.305" dur="3.197">from South Korea and they're
talking to each other using </text><text start="3372.503" dur="4.273">Google Translate. It is a

our favorites are the candid </text><text start="8511.023" dur="2.129">ones

waiting to press the shutter </text><text start="8521.219" dur="4.255">button as just the right moment.
We were thinking, how do you </text><text start="8525.475" dur="3.218">capture those fleeting,
spontaneous moments while </text><text start="8528.694" dur="4.27">letting yourself be part of the
moment? So we have been working</text><text start="8532.965" dur="5.348"> on that. I'm really excited to
share an entirely new type of </text><text start="8538.314" dur="4.283">camera that works with your

a powerful image sensor, it has</text><text start="8568.845" dur="4.297"> a shutter button, but that's
not what this camera is all </text><text start="8573.143" dur="3.202">about. We're reimagining this
camera from the inside out </text><text start="8576.346" dur="4.23">starting with the software and
applying machine learning to </text><text start="8580.577" dur="4.299">build a camera that takes photos
for you so you can enjoy the </text><text start="8584.877" dur="6.348">moment and instantly get shots
you couldn't get before. How </text><text start="8591.226" dur="3.202">does all that work? It starts
with an AI engine at the core of</text><text start="8594.429" dur="5.301"> the camera. Let's talk about
what that engine does. When </text><text start="8599.731" dur="4.277">you're behind a camera you look
for people you care about, you </text><text start="8604.009" dur="3.171">look for smiles, you look for
that moment your dog starts </text><text start="8607.181" dur="4.208">chasing her tail. Clips does
all of that for you. You turn </text><text start="8611.39" dur="5.424">it on and it captures the moment
so you can be in the moment. </text><text start="8616.815" dur="2.137">Because the software is
at the core of the camera, it is</text><text start="8620.017" dur="3.141"> going to get smarter over time.
We also reimagined what camera</text><text start="8624.213" dur="4.288"> hardware should do for you.
Clips is tiny, it weighs almost </text><text start="8628.502" dur="4.261">nothing. You can easily toss it
in your pocket. It is a </text><text start="8632.764" dur="4.266">hands-free camera. You can get
the amazing new perspectives on </text><text start="8637.031" dur="4.618">your experience and get yourself
in the shot by attaching clips </text><text start="8641.65" dur="4.22">to almost anything or setting it
down. Now, from the beginning</text><text start="8648.947" dur="2.14">, we know privacy and control
really matters. We have been </text><text start="8651.088" dur="4.292">thoughtful about this for clip
users, friends and family. </text><text start="8655.381" dur="2.134">Let's start with the basics. It
looks like a camera with an </text><text start="8657.516" dur="5.348">indicator light so everyone
knows what the device does. </text><text start="8662.865" dur="3.188">Next, it looks for stable, clear
shots of people you know and </text><text start="8666.054" dur="5.301">you help the camera learn who is
important to you. Finally, all</text><text start="8672.431" dur="3.21"> the machine learning happens on
the device itself. So just </text><text start="8675.642" dur="4.288">like any point and shoot,
nothing leaves your device until</text><text start="8679.931" dur="3.136"> you decide to save and share
it. This approach to designing</text><text start="8684.126" dur="4.244"> and engineering clips required
some significant technical </text><text start="8688.371" dur="3.201">breakthroughs to miniaturize the
type of powerful machine </text><text start="8691.573" dur="5.291">learning that only a few years
ago needed a super computer. </text><text start="8696.865" dur="3.197">Let's take a look at what clips
actually captures.</text><text start="8701.12" dur="4.221"> Here is some clips I have
captured with my family at home.</text><text start="8705.342" dur="4.734"> Now, as you can see, it's not
just photos that clips is </text><text start="8710.077" dur="2">taking. It is taking</text><text start="8713.247" dur="7.349"> little snippets to capture the
whole moment. We call them </text><text start="8720.597" dur="2.14">clips. You can save them as a
motion photo or choose any frame</text><text start="8722.738" dur="5.385"> to save as a high resolution
still. It is like having my </text><text start="8728.124" dur="4.273">own photographer shooting and
