Can't go too long without listening to the special voice of Greg Lake - someone mentioned him chewing gum, a lot of vocalists do that from time to time, it stops your mouth and throat from drying up. Love this song....

I miss the trio together and this performance and style reminds me of the days when they were together.  :))  Thanks for sharing Lorraine.

All the womenz in that audience were thinking likewise to this song.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer they were an " English Band " with the back drop of rhetoric lines of Artistic legend's in musical history's past from the very beginning of their reign to make a stand for of whom they represent ... Long live the Queen !

This is the last song my brother ever played (my bro by love and friendship, not blood)  of 35 years. He posted this song just before he died. He was found on his easy chair, with the music on. God, I miss him. We bid him farewell this Thursday at 1:30pm. We love you, John Coolidge!! You will be missed ... forever! I love you, bro! Rest in Peace ... <3

I like this song and I like Greg Lake. I'm not sure that he looks like he's chewing gum helps this video.

Is it weird that I prefer this version than the recorded ELP version? Greg has such a pure voice that doesn't need the extra touches that the recorded version adds....just him. And his 12 string. And d*****it why can't today's artists sound like this?!?! Nobody has real talent anymore...

At the end, a group of ELP fans burning copies of Love Beach.

+ExWizardry Yea, I thought about that, chewing gum while giving a stellar performance. He does it with ease. :D

These songs remind me of a very lonely, awkward time in my life. A genuine, real teenage longing for meaning...and girls. Lonely and horny, bad combination. Some cheap weed and these bad ass jams got me through I guess!

Forty years later, and this still holds up as one of their most f*cking brilliant songs. Better daze - sigh...

What a fine sexy voice.

Wow.  How lucky we were to grow up with the Greg Lakes, Don McLeans and the Carly Simon type of artists.  Gifted writers and performers that could move you.  Just a guitar and microphone.  What else can we say?

#12stringtuesday   From Cal Jam You know you are good when you are in front of a festival crowd, unaccompanied acoustic,... and you can chew gum and sing a classic. Awesome Greg!!!

Wow, That took me WAY BACK..... Good Memorys to this song. Thx Tony♥

WOW, this brought back memories. I seen ELP at the Chicago International Amphitheater, when they toured for this album, around 1973 or so. I remember Greg doing this song exactly the way he's doing it in this video, just him on a stool with a 12 string acoustic.Great stuff.

Great song. I always found it disconcerting he was chewing gum during that performance.

если подстричь покороче-вылитый Леонардо ди Каприо в юности.Обаятельный.

Una voce semplicemente fantastica...con gli ELP, con i King Crimson...storia della Musica...quella vera, la sola, unica!!!
Report spam or abuse
Many artists used to chew gum during a performance, back then. It keeps the voices moisturized and prevents dry mouth , or what stoners call "cotton mouth". I highly doubt Greg Lake was stoned during this performance, though - from what I've always read, he was pretty much the professional for live performances etc..

This man had my ex working with him back in the 70's what a legend !,,

I was 13 at the time and thought the music world would always have ELP and the like.  Boy was I mistaken.  I loved ELP at the time, but I never knew how fleeting that era would be.

One of the best pure classic rock voices....ever ! :) Peace :)

How handsome Greg was... while young. Alas, I presume that could be said for most of us.
Report spam or abuse
Back in the 70s, when I first heard this song, I didn't realize that 30 or so years later that I would be confounded that someone so young would have been able to turn me on with his art.
Report spam or abuse
I was just a kid when I saw ELP in Richmond Va...my forth concert I must have been under sixteen because I didn't have a license to drive..went to this concert with what is my brother in law now.....forty plus years ago..amazing, to say the least...I just pulled this up..music this day and time..can't even touch the 60's and 70's bands....Yes, The Dead..LZ countless bands....I know it's only rock and roll but I like it, like it YES I DO!

My wife likes this video more than she should... haha! Great performance! I know why he's chewing gum, but it still makes me chuckle :)

Lol... good guess! But no, it creates saliva so his throat doesn't get dry. It's actually a common practice :)

+Nate Chrysler You learn something new every day.

You don't see that too often from vocalists - chewing gum whilst singing in a performance.

Another great 12 string legend - I think its Hubba Bubba - damn I should have chewed that when I was trying to learn some of theses songs.
