@orionsbelt0 - Email me. It's easier. ;) I'm not running into a compressor at the moment, which exacerbates the problem. I can't use my Rode because I've yet to figure out how to mitigate the fan noise for the system I'm using for Live production (and the Wirecast license won't seem to transfer to another computer).

You can get cheap 3rd party batteries online via amazon or ebay, but there are arguments as to whether they are as good as Canon batts, or if they void your warranty, so check in to that. As to lenses, as I'm sure you've heard, the next lens you get should be the canon 50mm 1.8. Goes for about 100 dollars, and is a good, sharp, portrait lens. MMM bokeh!

I personally got a Canon EOS T1i [18-55mm kit lens] and [55-250mm telephoto]. Personally, the telephoto shoots video better, but I wouldn't recommend such a lens for video unless if you want to shoot something that's like 3/4-1+ mile away, or as said by many camera reviewers "stalker-shooting". I actually regret buying the EOS T1i, the EOS T3i should be my first DSLR since the flexible LCD viewer is a key part of a camera I'd actually use and the T1i/T2i is pretty restrictive... -Kev [NY].

Seeing as the T3i has an APS-C sized sensor and is not a 35mm size. If the 50mm is too tight for you then I would go for the 30mm.

Check out the youtube channel "drumat5280" he has videos you can see how well the 50mm looks. And you might be able to learn about exposure and white balance setup with the camera.

I bought the Canon 60D this time last year, its great and everything... but anyone buying a DSLR should do research on lenses, some of them are terrible/over priced.

@ernestryles you dont own one but your computer may run osx which 90% of the time is the reason people buy macs

You'll want to get started with Av Mode. It's much better than Auto. Personally, I shoot manual.

@Lakeguy225 that lens isn't very sharp :/ I've used it quite a few times a 24-105 is a better bet
