Spirit of the Night: Secret of Mana Music

Back in the 90s this song made me cry when i heard it then i thought to myself this sounds like a song that also made me cry from a few years earlier.  Turns out this song sounds just like alan and cerl from Breath of Fire 1.  Look up both songs, why did SoM copy BoF?

Easily one of the saddest RPG tracks in existance.

i still own this game. sometimes i just sit back and listen, because somehow the sadness of the song makes me feel better. i guess it appeals to the emotions.

The main character of this lost his mother...when i was a kid i cried to this song because i didn't want my mommy to go away...but sooner or later mommy is gonna go away..thats just how reality is...

So sad... so true... so.... epic. Fullfill your fate!

Beachlvr87 => it is played at the beginning, when the Boy is bannished from his village. You should play this game, it's old but it's better than younger ones. (Sorry, English is not my mother-tongue...) Thank you for posting !!

this is the part where did you get telled that youre mom set you out in the village right?
Report spam or abuse
i guess a lot of us cried when we first played it aka. most of us were 6-12

I get goosebumps every time I hear this song. It is just too nostalgic for me :')
Report spam or abuse
They don't make games like this anymore... I really wish they did.
Report spam or abuse
This brings back so many memories. Secret of Mana had one of the greatest soundtracks. I miss this game.
Report spam or abuse
Sounds like "Your Warmth" from Final Fantasy IX
Report spam or abuse
Damn. Memories =) I remember going back to the village so I could stand before it, listening to the music. I think it was played then. I loved it - I still do. Or maybe I took my time leaving the village... I don't remember anymore. Well, I'm definitely going to replay SoM soon. Thanks for uploading. Just a little question: I've just listened to a few of your SoM uploads but I have the impresstion that they sound either very "dull" or very "harsh". Do you have any idea why?
Report spam or abuse
@legofanatic1 Of course it is! You should play it. The first two Lufia games on SNES are just epic.
Report spam or abuse
My favorite SoM song. So epic.
Report spam or abuse
As do I. And the effect is greatly amplified when it happens unplanned!
Report spam or abuse
one of squares best!!!! i got it when it was released back in early 90s and i got it with the first lufia... loved those games
Report spam or abuse
you know, there's a glitch that allows you to go back into Potos Village!!! After you have the 3 characters, stand in front of the guy blocking your way, walk foward, and keep pressing select. After a bit, viola! You're back in! This is the cheapest place to rest at an inn, at only 5 GP! Try it today!( PLEASE NOTE. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE THE FLAMMIE DRUM. OTHERWISE YOU CAN'T GET BACK OUT!!!)

Godly in its nostalgic simplicity. I love learning songs like this on the piano.

You are heraby BANNED from Photos, now GET outta here. Yah jerks lol, they are just rabites jez =/

Super nostalgia..ahh painful childhood memories.

This could be the result of something that happens to videos when they are uploaded. The audio quality might have diminished during the process. I try to make the music as clear as possible when I record them.

I actually cried the first time I played and heard this song. Being bannished from my own born village is so cruel
Report spam or abuse
Blinding their enemies with the flashes! That would be interesting. ^^
Report spam or abuse
To me, it brings memories with my brother when we were playing this game, like it was yesterday ! Where does the time go... i feel like calling him right now haha
Report spam or abuse
This song sounds like the type of song you would play after something horrible happens, but with the feeling that hope is alive and things will be ok. Does that make sense?
Report spam or abuse
Things are plain awful right now..but there is always a bit of hope! Thats the feeling i get from this song
Report spam or abuse
Indeed it does. and its an apt interpretation of the song. As this is played when things start going badly, and people start dieing in the game.
Report spam or abuse
would the town ppl know that ur a kid and chances are they are literally killing u
Report spam or abuse
I remember everythink, damn I was 7 or 8 and I cried when he was bannished from his village

Brings back some nice childhood memories...

I remember playing this game years ago--the song indeed brought tears to my eyes, but it was more so the fact that the hero was banished from his home village. :,(

hey i cried when i was 7 years old and i read that the boy isnt welcome anymore in his hometown :( good old times :D
Report spam or abuse
I don't know what is better. This or Zelda, Link to the past.

Wow... I suddenly have the urge to go rummaging through my cupboard and drag out the ol' Super Nintendo to play Secret Of Mana again! Maybe now I'm older, I could actually GET some on it XD
Report spam or abuse
you are banished from potos village

He probably thought he'd become king, pulling that sword out. Ah, the silent protagonist, we'll never really know what he thought, but he was an extension of all of us.

A few days ago, a lot of snow falled in my town. I had nothing to do this evening so i went outside walking in the snow. At one moment, my MP3 played this song and it was magic to listen to this while watching the landscape
Report spam or abuse
@ultimafox9 man, games will NEVER be as good as the games of this generation... all that seems to matter are graphics, but not a touching and well-constricted story... that's sad...
Report spam or abuse
That game, i remember it so well. Parents were poor and i had one or 2 game per year, the used ones. I picked that game out of nowhere, just because it was square soft. I was so happy to play that game. That's my childhood right there. And it's never comming back, and it brings tears to my eye. ahaha. That song is magic

@JohnKirkBillieJoe yeah snes rpg's are awesome, tales of phantasia, star ocean,terranigma.... but if you want a real great rpg play the coming soon XENOBLADE for wii, im not kidding, im rog fan for 15 years now and ive only seen a handful of rpg's that tells a sory as great and awesome as xenoblade chronicles [there is no lose storyline everyhing is like a perfect puzzle]

I felt so bad for him when he got kicked out those good for nothing jerks!
Report spam or abuse
You are hereby banished from Potos. Now, get out of here! Playing it again on VC. I had it on an emulator, too, but it just isn't the same. Easily one of the best SNES games of all time.
Report spam or abuse
The theme makes you feel betrayal and sadness. I just barely played the part where the hero gets banished (I bought it on the Wii). I thought that the kids the hero was hanging out with were his friends, but they told him to leave too. It might sound funny, but since the person playing guides the hero, I thought I could be like his friend and travel with him since no one else in the game did at first.

sad song :[ i want this played at my funeral.

where was this song? which beautiful sadness featured this?

Secret of evermore isn't a sequal its a completely different game, its like RPG mixed with fantasy horror its a great game but not as enjoyable as SOM.

Yeah, might very well be a typical YouTube-related issue. Maybe it's the compression after/while uploading or something.

Banned from Potos Village... But I place my bet on this being better than Link to the Past.

@TheShadowMystik Yeah I cryed when that first happened man, the way they just told him to never come back and this music starts up :(

@bolyon96 stuck on forest?... got mad?... also how old are you?

this song is amazing, but it gets overlooked for the overplayed chrono trigger themes.

i'm playing this while i throw out my old stuff....

bloody epic game..definitely brings back some kewl memories

This is one of the games I grew up on. Hearing this song again brings back so much.

I still have my copy.. There's a save file just before the boss battle with Mantis. Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I kick the shit out of that bastard, then listen to the Spirit of the Night. I know it's a sad theme, but it also is very peaceful. Almost like a lullabud.. I mean, lullaby.

Secret of Evermore isn't a game compared to Mana :P I mean it had SO much potential but shoulda been twice as long, they dropped the ball on end game big time.
Report spam or abuse
I don't believe so but hell it's been like 9 years since I've played this so if I missed a H sue me :P
Report spam or abuse
@JohnKirkBillieJoe I like the PS1/N64 and GC/PS2/XBOX generation too, but the 360/PS3/Wii generation sucks.

I don't feel alone after reading most of these comments... good to see other people grew up enjoying and experiencing the same good times! I am looking for that creepy song that played well every one was zombiefied...harder to find then expected

@SquareTales i know what you mean. those games, they are piece of arts. i know the general opinion wouldnt agree, but who cares, a game like secret of mana, to me, is like a botichelli painting.

this is my fav song from this game

boo Potos village (specifically Elliot and that other kid, I mean you saved their lives and thats all the thanks you get).

sometimes i have to cry when im listening to this song, because it reminds of the unfairness from the people in the village it wasn't his fault that the monsters appeared! the sword talked to him and he just listened..
