sad St.Petersburg, Russia, March 17, 2002. That Russian tour marked the official arrival of Don Airey as the new keyboard player and the last tour that Child in Time was performed live. Even though Gillan did a remarkably good job that particular night (help from guitar on the high notes notwithstanding), you can hear why it is highly unlikely he will ever sing it again.

Nope, I'm 100% Blackmore Fan. But Steve Morse is very good guitarist.

Where is Blackmore's legendary solo? WTF? Ian gillan his a skinhead WTF? i m angry

Ian Gillan is now 68 years old and turning bald. So i nowadays rather see him with short hair, and he agrees with me on that matter as shown in this clip. Blackmore left DP years ago to go and play Gypsy music with his wife Candice, if you want to see them perform Child in Time go ahead and look it up, but i warn you it's not a pretty sight.

que truco mas bajo si no puede con la nota que no trate de engañar a los que lo siguen.

@guitartur it's okay if they're without blackmore.but not okay if without lord. only one original member and he is a drummer! that's bullshit
Report spam or abuse
Let's hope so just wish they would call it a day and use a different name now there is only 1 original member left.

Stop this moaning. Mozart is dead should we stop playing his music? Agreed, Lord and Blackmore are awesome but life goes on and to demand that Deep Purple stop playing certain songs because some of the members have left the group is ridicoulus. Nobody is forcing you to listen to them, right? Keep on playing your old albums till they are worn out and let the rest of us enjoy a group that is still alive and kicking.

@Tunturi24 so you must be a very hard ian gillian fan, are you? glenn is one of the best rock singers, he is not just screaming. search for mistreated at cali jam 74. or look for a whiter shade of pale glenn hughes. i didnt say that ian cant sing i just said that he's not singing the high notes anymore.
Report spam or abuse
he's still got his voice......:)

He can sing, but can not sing child in time anymore

Noooo, why 240 p??? A song like this need a full hd quality.

Being out of synch is an easy fix (the error should always be one fixed time amount through out the recording, unless data was spliced from different recording machines), and it has a simple cause (different playback equipment versus what recorded it). Sometimes you just let things be, sometimes you fix things.

dont u just wish ritchie was there to take his axe off him and show steve how it's done, this is like a deep purple tribute act now. bring back the man in black

Deep Purple is just a brand, its owned by a record company, the important thing is the musicians that made the brand popular in the fist place. In the future there could be five 15 year old's in the band & their fans would go "man this is great, can't believe how poor the Morse lineup were" & it would be annoying for Morse's fans. As far as I'm concerned Morse can play Ritchie's riffs for the rest of his life...

shame gillans voice has lost him now....he is 66 but to me he's the greatest singer ever.

@sacknard Glen is just a screamer and cant sing at all!!!!

@lesterskelter But it says this video is from 2002 :P

Its out of sync, sound and picture, but Ian isn't singing the highest tones, Steve does them on his guitar. Who can blame Ian for not doing the high ones, most guys in their prime would never manage to get up there, never :)

This is who all rock bands want to be when they grow up.

Great Ian Gillan....but ...are they whistling to the keyboard player because he's not Lord??? If it is so...that would be so horrible....(but maybe it has nothing to do..) ANYWAY WE LOVE THE PURPLES...

@77elvistheking I think you forgot Gillan... This song is Lord Blackmore and Gillan

In 2003 I saw them in Rome, but they didn't play child in time, maybe because Gillan couldn't reach those notes... too bad they didn't come 1 year before... Anyway that was a great concert and they played along with Lynyrd Skynyrd

Ian Gillan is a Master of the Srceam!!! :)

Ian Gillan is one of my biggest inspirations for my high screams \m/ At HIS age, doing this song is PHENOMENAL :O Plz watch my video response of some of my high screams, let me know who I sound like? :)
Report spam or abuse
@snowguyit It's because the audio and the video is not syncronised. The two layers are way off. Check out Ian Paice's drumming, looks like he's hitting the drums off beat. Which would be funny in his case:) DP never used playback at a live concert. Probably in TV studios but not in arenas.

Морсу далеко до РИЧИ!!! РИЧИ гитарист всех времен и народов!!!

@Paragonx135 Well the solos in the studio-version is really passionfull. You won't find it in the live-versions. The live-versions are "orgys of improvisation". I love both.

"Owned by a record company" ??? What do you mean? They are an entity, a corporation - as you say: a "brand", last (but not least) a BAND. No record company "owns" them. They create a "product" & sell that product via a record company, in exchange for marketing & touring budgets which finance their career. What they hell are YOU talking about "owned by a record company"? Maybe a contract, but not the actual band.

@turtlliwdnifuoyehthr yes they are. but it is supported with live vocals as well, so it works fine.

hey he still hits the high notes!!!

it's weird because at a gig in 1993 he wasn't able to sing like that at all

Gillan's voice was still in great shape during this. Nowadays he's just a dead squeal.

the fuc**r didn't sing this 2000 in Athens concert. only this song left for a perfect concert
Report spam or abuse
@Tranilio Agreed, but I, like the way Steve Morse helps to Gillan vocals here with his guitar, Blackmore to me is the best guitarist ever lived on the earth, but he never helps Gillan with his amazing guitar... And It's a shame to him to be such an asshole, and in same time the greatest guitarist ever... After all, Gillan's voice is a voice, not a guitar, and it's pretty normal not to be the same voice as in the 70's... But he still got it some how... the voice of Gillan is not only high screams

Agree that Lord best on keyboard and prefer Blackmore here. Best version of the song live in 1970 in UK studio. Even recorded versions have never sounded that good to me. They should quit playing this song though Gillan's voice not too bad - can still reach some of those high notes Maybe after his tonsillectomy? Still trying to find out when he had it. Before that his voice sounded pretty bad. Sound couldn't get out around swollen, infected tonsils and nodules. Thanks to the German doctor!

So sorry, but it's a Pale Purple without Blackmore, regardless of what anyone claims of his broody personality.

The best thing Steve did on this song is play his style and not try to copy Blackmore. We have enough versions of Ritchie's solos. I was interested in Steve's version of the solo and it was amazing!

Ian is very old But he still have power But performance in Bangkok This year is very impress DP is DP

@BeQaZePP maybe but that's not changing the fact that he's not singing the high notes anymore. it's ok. glenn played many concerts too, maybe not as many as ian but he played too. that's not changiing everything. but at least it does not matter because we all listen to purple and should not discuss about unimportant things. they are both good and it's all about the music. so now we should all just shut the fuck up and the listen to the music :-)
