This. I own my company (editorial) and I'm pretty proud of that. But, really, if I had to do things differently, I would start all over again and learn to code. I can guarantee you that in today's economy being a skillful programer is a freaking blessing from the gods. The coders have the power, the others watch and pay. Don't be those ones. Learn how to code you will not regret it.

real interesting man, I would love to start my own company, knowing that I can I've perused an International Business degree, but its really generic & limiting, theres no encouragement of creativity, free thinking, and only one of my classes covers ethics, coding just seems to encourage everything I look for in a potential job or lifestyle for the future, since I'm 19 I'm hoping its not too late & have Android Studio downloading now to my laptop as I write, pretty sure it isn't late for yourself either man, even the simplest of things like programming my own 'flappy bird' game, was pretty interesting, I feel you, I'd rather to create/contribute to a game or service, than spend my days using it, nice words

Im getting so annoyed of the fking comment section on this video every title brat from 10-13 is bragging their asses just because they can write a shitting hello world program or a simple console calculator. Saying yah "java is so easy" just because they can write shitty code. If you really want to say programming is so easy go learn assembly or objective c.  Or even better how about making a decent gui program that's actually useful you arrogant brats.

+BluFis | Let's Plays & Game Reviews I wouldn't recommend for you to start coding by trying to program a game. Main reason why, programming a game is not easy at all. But if you must, there are great tutorials. Start of with a very basic game such as Tic-tac-toe or Simon says. Here's my advice; get a book that covers the concept of programming. Meaning, a book that will teach you how code is written and the logic behind it. Find a language you like such as C#, Java, or Swift (main three languages for most games.) Find an Integrated Development Environment that works for the language you've chosen. Make sure you use one that has a lot of community support. Choose your first programming project.

I use VS Ultimate 2013 for C++, but I don't know how good it is for C# of Java (which I program in, but not much.) Idk if VS Community 2015 would be good. Is Codeblocks(or codeblox idk which) good for either? But yeah, starting small is key.

Code.org sucks. They treat you as an 8 year old. If anyone knows of a website that teaches me how to make a damn window with graphical images from your computer (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, CODE.ORG! I DON'T WANT TO DRAW MY GRAPHICS IN THE DAMN PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE) then I'd love to try it.

I'm 13 and I learned how to code(Java) at age 12. It's not that hard especially Java. Java is probably one of simplest programming languages out there. It truly is a language. You have grammar and vocabulary. The grammar is the easier part but the vocabulary is kind of unique. You can use your own vocabulary if you create an API or you can somebody else's vocabulary. To study the vocabulary just search up the apidocs for that specific API. That's all you need to know.

I understand the necessity of software engineers... but honestly, we need more computer and electrical engineers working for factories that automate TANGIBLE things. The virtual can only do so much for the tangible world.

+Hernan Moisés I do, but I don't think you actually understand what I'm saying. Se que quizas no entiendes el idioma Ingles muy bien... Lo que quize decir o explicar es que necesitamos menos programadores que crean solo lo virtual y mas progamadores que crean cosas que manipulan el mundo real...

Just a comment: C++ is not logical. Apple Basic was logical. Most webpage creation tools are not logical. Netscape Composer was logical. The problem is that the tools used today have become over-thought and made more complicated and as a result cannot be used by the average person. We need a Windows-type revolution in programming.

I remember a few years ago I was working as an Automotive Refinish Technician (a car painter lol) at a local body shop and I absolutely hated it. The pay was decent but the working conditions were pitiful. I debated for months whether or not to go back to school. I chose to go back for Computer Science and then a few months later this video came out. I became so motivated by it that I began working harder and always tried to go the extra mile on my programming homework. I'm now in my final year of school to get my BSCS and I still come back every now and then for a little bit of extra motivation :)

I actually want to learn programming and code for practical purposes. I want to start from scratch and build upon the fundamentals. I was hoping to get someone here could help me out where to start. What program(s) should I start learning first? Are there mathematics principles I should know beforehand? I am more willing to take my time and hear anyone with expertise in the field and try websites and textbooks that anyone suggest. Unlike most of these arrongant clowns in the comments section, I am trying learn the fundamentals and try. I only have small portion of experience in Java.

+HomeSkillenSLICE Shut up fuccboi, the real super power comes from the people that build the machines. You're only able to program them because they allow you a mechanism to do so. BTW, cars existed and worked fine before programming was installed in them you dumb fuck.
