its ok, ive been there. Just remember to start low and accelerate and then explode with off your tipy toes and use your core. Keep tall when you run up to the rim for fast breaks.

honestly your approach is pretty bad. You're just jogging up there and you look like you dont even want to dunk. If you can get your head almost to the backboard you should be throwing down most dunks with no problem

There's no real science in dunking, at your height you just have to go agressive to the basket and jump with one foot (same as you do to make a layup) and catch the ball. If you catch the ball you could dunk everytime you wanted.

Some more encouragement for you young lanky white guys (or anyone) out there - I'm 6'1/2" (8' standing reach) and have always been between 160 & 180 since I was 17. Still skinny (low-mid 170's) a couple months shy of 25, I finally dunked a hand full of times. You'll get there when you work on it - the window doesn't close in your teens or in college; it closes when you decide you're never going to put in the work (or maybe when you're 35 or 40, and putting in the work won't help you much.) I injured my ankle a couple weeks later, had to stop lifting for a while, and lost the progress I had made on my vertical, and then injured my knee (and then both of my ankles ), but if I hadn't, I'm pretty sure I'd still be dunking now (I'm almost 30, banged up, and still grabbing rim pretty easily). What worked for me was lifting heavy weights with your upper legs and glutes (calves are more involved in quick jumping - I've always had big, strong calves, and was always a quick 2nd jumper, but only had a maybe 28-30 inch vertical), and it only took me 3 or 4 weeks to get from repeatedly losing the ball and having it bounce off the back of the rim (or sometimes getting stuffed by the rim) to getting a legit dunk once in every 10 or so tries. My vertical was up to 36" in 3 or 4 weeks. Just don't over extend your shoulder hanging on the rim; you can tear something and your shot will never be the same (I learned the hard way when I was 21). On days when my muscles felt looser and I felt more agile, I surprised myself a few times on follow rebounds and probably could have dunked two handed if I had been ready/used to that kind of elevation, so stretching every day is probably a good idea, too. Take care of your knees, ankles, and feet while you're young to keep your athleticism longer. Stay off that blacktop whenever you can. Get supportive shoes. Seriously, at 28, losing my explosion, just because of knee problems. Feel free to comment and ask me if you want any advice. It shouldn't take you nearly 4 years like it did this dude if you're anywhere near 6'. I'd like to know what kind of workouts he was doing.

i focused on dunking 2 weeks ago.. i am 5'10, 5'11 and i always needed that 1sm to touch the rim, now i can catch the rim easily jumping with 2 legs... actually i studied a lot about APPROACHING, JUMPING techniques and so on... i've never had a problem with stutter stepping, but it seems you do, so i suggest you to start working on it, be more explosive, there is a lot to learn, your aproaching is awful

+Restore The Sneakers lol volleyball technique is just the same as jumping in basketball...i''ve played both basketball and volleyball in highschool, and play college volleyball now, and everyone uses the same technique. he doesn't get low enough, and doesn't explode when he swings his arms.

I love how your american rings bend when you hang onto them, in Australia, unless your playing state or national bbal we dont realy have rings that bend, so dunking and hanging onto rims isnt encouraged, and therefore people tend not to dunk. But praise God just yesterday i did my first dunk!  thankyou for this video i know i watched it about a year ago and wanted to come back saying videos like these i could relate with as i was struggling to dunk, but know i can, i just need more confidence practice if you know what i mean.

The "fast twitch" muscles, that you need to have to be explosive is most common in people with West African heritage. As in, you can have African heritage and not be explosive. People whose heritage is South African, Centra African, or East African usually aren't explosive.  99.9% of sprinters, NFL players, NBA players will have West African heritage. It's very specific. West African heritage is very common in the USA because of the slave trade - as West Africa was the closest bit of the continent to the USA.  But you do get white people with fast twitch muscles. It's just, genetically, a lot more rare.

one VERY IMPORTANT aspect of jumping is transferring horizontal energy to vertical and he just stops completely before he jumps. my pole vault coach always said dont stop running to jump..goes for everything

Work on strengthening your grip. Your hands are probably big enough. You probably just have a very weak grip. I have small hands and can palm a basketball. 50% of it is hand and wrist strength. You literally just need to concentrate some weight training on your hands and wrists

don't give up!! drink so much water , if your urine isnt crystal clear it means u don't drink enough. Go play basketball everyday or 1 day play 1 day break  try to touch rim everyday. say '' i will do it ! '' NEVER give up. just keep jumping. With your dumbells, do lunge exercise(not good english , i know u understand :) ) here is the key : Play shooter , jump as high as you can while shooting. this will be your jumping/shooting exercise. You will be %99 touching the ropes if u exercise that hard. Jump high , shoot , go take the ball , shoot again repeat repeat. i made my first dunk 4 weeks ago , and i was in tears when i do that 6'0 feet i am , and 75 kilograms >> if u can't dunk , itsnt problem. Even some NBA players can't dunk too , u can be good shooter and nice small player like Kyrie Irving

If you want to dunk you should train, every day. No days off. But this guy is trying an alley oop as his first dunk! You should start off easy. Just run to the basket and dunk that thing down. You also will jump higher when you jump with one foot.
