I have TONS more Van Halen! Here, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/guitarzforsale clip 16

Its only when you watch these old videos that you realise that David Lee Roth has always been awful live !

Totally agree, DLR is a crap singer!

wiat, what is the song after? i don't recognize and i am a huge DLR era VH fan. 'i'm so bad'?? i worship eddie, but his guitar fell out of tune before that song began, ouch!

Eddie is a consumate musician and a great songwriter. This separates  him from the shredder following he inspired. They missed the point. Also he is like Les Paul in that he created his own guitars as well as his own sound and style.

Well, when you're playing week after week for a year drunk, stoned off your ass, sleep deprived, and sperm count of zero- let's talk!
Report spam or abuse
Roth is drunk as usual.

I'm So Glad (Cream) at 4.44. Eddie -Einstein of the Ax!

"i'm so glad" a Cream song they did in the club day that they put in the middle of "somebody get me a doctor" you almost forget how fucking awesome these guys were.

I saw them at Largo in 82 so I guess I was at this show

I love the way they had their lighting at the top of the stage. I always wish that the present day Van Halen could have the twisting and turning spotlights flying around the stadium at the beginning of their concerts.Dave was a wildman back then.

the thing about eddie is every time he finishes a solo, he makes you begging for more

Back when they were hungry for success!

Mike Anthony does more singing than Dave. Shameful. Only those as inebriated as Dave and charmed by his massive ego would get off on that. If only Dave sang while he still had his voice. Just a gigolo indeed.

start a band then gleeber ,, show us how its not done .

+Scott Woodall And I see you being smart ass like and failing to see the point.

@georgesorosisgay1 Almost no one notices this. I see videos of ppl's "Brown Sound" and it's distorted as hell. Those old Marshall's have a wonderful compressed sound with a lot of gain, but not much distortion. Just a PAF plugged into the amp & crank everything to 10 & stand back. Great observation!

2:00-4:20 The Van Halen brother jam...where it all started

I was in high school and I was at this very show at the capital center...I never missed Van Halen...very cool
Report spam or abuse
One of the many times I've seen VH was in '82 and now 30 years later I can remember 2 major things about that show... Eddie was really awesome and Dave was too drunk to remember the lyrics. I actually remember being pissed off at Dave. So now all these years later I can only come to one conclusion; I was definitely not stoned enough that night!

How dare you slander Diamond Dave!! His screams and grunts and lyrical content still hold up to this day.... don't you try and deny it!!
Report spam or abuse
guitar solo is worthy of legend status evh is the master
Report spam or abuse
one year later , ugh, still sound horrible,,,, actually worse
Report spam or abuse
dude I know. he has just enough of a crunch to make the legato lines really smooth, but not so much that you cant hear the notes. still one of my favorite guitar tones ever

Report spam or abuse
The amp has no gain......it needs a doctor...
Report spam or abuse
wow if you listen closely at the end of the video you can really hear the tubes in Ed's amp literally cooking!!!! what great tone and playing

Great performance. Loved the harmonics from "Women In Love" and the working in of "I Feel Glad" by Cream!

Michael Anthony @ 2:57 "I can't follow this, maybe I'll just have a drink."
Report spam or abuse
they could do no wrong at this point, Dave could have taken a dump on the stage and the crowd would have loved it!!
Report spam or abuse
I was at this show. I'm old.
Report spam or abuse
the Altimate Rock Gods the greatest band in rock history!
Report spam or abuse
Love this! I was at this show. Best ever and still talk about it.
Report spam or abuse
becuz its a fuckin concert dipshit...the whole point of a concert is to sound different but better than the album...thats what make this music different from the bullshit now!!!!!! cuz they were creative as fuck!
Report spam or abuse
How did these guys play so drunk If I got that hammered I usually just fell off stage and Eddie just fucking shreds with that goofy little drunken smile next to Hendrix Eddie remains king
Report spam or abuse
hush ,DONT start yer crap pal ,WHATS TRUE IS TRUE!!
Report spam or abuse
this was Eddies best Sound...so lite on gain so clear yet powerful...no one plays like this any more..its kinda like woodstock vibe...
Report spam or abuse
@MrUltraworld Pardon the cynicism here, but, I hope they start arguing, AGAIN, and thus, break up, AGAIN! Why? In my opinion, Van Halen "trying to fit into the modern era" JUST DOESN'T "click!"
Report spam or abuse
Eddie is better than Jimmy Page or Hendrix!

Don't really see much difference between Dave, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, and Elvis to be honest. Lead singers are just weird....part of what makes them good.
Report spam or abuse
@MacPro8CoreMan Far fucking out, did the same thng with different chicks, one stoned out of her mind, and the other one too fucking shy, but not later after the show if you know what I mean! Think it was the sheep tour if I recall. One show in Dayton, the other in Cincy! Intro song was Romeo's Delight. I recall Roth saying he forgot the fucking words to the song at both concerts. He also says it in the Largo concert if you listen. Also the first girl I took is still stoned! lol!
Report spam or abuse
It brings me great joy to see Eddie jumping around like a spry little foal.
Report spam or abuse
@STORYTASTIC Negative. There won't ever be any sound he has done/will do then what was on the first album, and also in my opinion 1984. But that's just me
Report spam or abuse
sorry if i'm being an asshole bringing this thing up, but c'mon, sammy couldn't throw a party like this..
Report spam or abuse
@GraffitiPhysical If ONLY there WAS a guitar lick or riff like THAT, TODAY! To paraphrase the opening song on Diver Down: "WHERE has ALL THE GOOD MUSIC GONE?!"
Report spam or abuse
Saw this band 1st time 1979 at spectrum in philly, warm up band for black sabbath with ronnie james dio VH blew there doors off.
Report spam or abuse
Well "Bieber" did puke on the middle of the stage dude .-)
Report spam or abuse
I know, but there's a passage in that solo where its almost impossible not to use your pinky from the note selection he chooses. And Ed always talked about how using his pinky helped him develop his own style.
Report spam or abuse
If anyone really thinks for a moment all the things that had to go right in the universe to get DLR & EVH/AVH (yes, MA, too) together at the right place, the right time, the right music, the right attitudes - it boggles the mind, body, and soul! Fcuk!! The magic of VH is undeniably powerful! (Dave Halen, not that other creature.)
