Lillypad City: The floating city

by isthereanythathasnt3 • 4,377,104 views

The Lilly pad city is able to hold 50 000 people, it is designed to be built if the worlds cities flood because of global warming. It would travel all throughout seas and oceans with no boundless...

This is a cool design but I think it's unsafe because giant frogs will hoop from lily pad to lily pad destroying buildings and claiming many lives.

Great, we build cities that are floating so that when our enemies decide to hurt us, they can simply sink us. Before we go building these floating cities every where, we better address overpopulating the planet, our over use of non-renewable resources and we most certainly better find a way to stop wars from breaking out or all of that will be pointless.

+☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ colonization through investments would be more than likely on a blue planet similar to ours outside our known solar system.. Probably not on the moon, maybe Mars.

need more than just floating cities. would need floating farmland too.

Global warming? Dont you people know that its been debunked for gawd Sake. IT IS NOT A REAL THING!!!

The biggest obstacle to a liberal are people who think for themselves, rather than regurgitate so-called "facts" that they read on the Internet or are beaten over the head with by their liberal college professor.  At any given moment, there's always some chicken little squawking about how we only have 10 more years to save the planet.  Then when these 10 years come and go, it's always 10 more years after that and it never ends.  What's more is that college students are never taught to question anything they hear from their Marxist professors and if they do, not only would they be given an 'F' for the entire semester, but they would be called out in front of the whole class as an idiot in much the same way that if scientists were to question GW, they would get their funding revoked. The fact is there has not been any warming trends in over 15 years now.  That's why they're trying to abandon the term "Global Warming" in favor of "climate change."  Rather than taking credit for it however, they continue to perpetuate the myth because if they don't, it won't serve to empower them in much the same way that separating people by their skin color and pandering to them as groups rather than as Americans also serves to empower them. As a cold hard fact, the last five recorded hottest summers (1930, 1934, 1936, 1954 and 1980) all occurred with CO2 below 350 parts per million.  Four of these summers occurred before the invention of the SUV, which according to Al Gore, is the biggest culprit.  He made his $200 million fortune perpetuating this hoax and by selling carbon offsets like snake oil.  Now this crazy bastard is pushing to spend 90 trillion (that's TRILLION with a 'T') dollars in a crackpot scheme to ban all cars from EVERY major city in the world!  This is entirely political and as political to the left as abortion in terms of advancing their agenda.  The bottom line is that scientists follow the money and there is overwhelmingly more money to be made on believing a myth than there is in not believing it.  Find out the real truth from meteorologists who don't rely on funding from left-wing organizations and who have no dog in this fight such as Brian Sussman. Steven Goddard... simply search his work on Google :)

+QP TesterEight  You are an idiot. No really you are you can search the actual data for yourself on the actual trend that you claim do not exists. Also Do you even KNOW what a Marxist is? I doubt it because NO one Other then you brought up the ideology id Marxism. here is an article about how last summer was the hottest on record: http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2014/09/18/earth-hottest-summer-climate/15823745/ breaking the summer before that which broke the previous summer hmmm I see a fucking trend. A trend so obvious that and idiot can see it oh wait never mind you don't see it.

The global warming aspect is absurd. The basic idea is very interesting, These could be built off the shore of cities where land is way to expensive, or in places where people would like to live but there isn't any land, such as near reefs or even off sore oil platforms, sea farms more ocean mining installations.
Report spam or abuse
+Emily Johnson Ahh, you think other countries would wage war on them to prevent their sovereignty?
Report spam or abuse
+Hellsbane Demonslayer I suspect that if they were to actually be built as independent city states they would have a "flag of convenience" as many ships do, that way they would be protected under maritime law. Once one got powerful enough or a bunch of them were built and banded together they could operate as an independent country and ask to be recognized as such.
Report spam or abuse
This is the epitome of false-advancement. We are advanced enough to build extravagant cities at sea, but not advanced enough to stop global warming. Yay, mankind.
Report spam or abuse
There is nothing unreasonable about it. Humans build cities no problem. Floating or not it's not a huge deal. Global warming is a different matter all together. We can't just change the structure and cycles of planet earth. A floating city is like a lego kit compared to fixing global warming.

+Thomas Bowman  Whose to say building this floating city might contribute to global warming? I mean where do all the waste goes?or how to they get the power to move this floating city?

The oceans, which cover the vast majority of Earth's surface, will become an increasingly important venue for human economic activity as the population grows and technology advances.
Report spam or abuse
I don't think so, I would rather oceans stay like that build water and underwater cities will ruin the homes of thousands of animals

Church?!?!?! HAHAHA are you serious? Religion is the founder of almost all wars....... Maybe if everybody just accepts that we may have a (almost) war-free world!

+CoDANGER7 The Holocaust wasn't caused by religion, an unscrupulous, evil man used the Jews as scapegoats, but any minority would have served his purpose. If history had gone a different way an equally as evil leader of the Confederacy could have done the same thing with blacks (google "Jake Fetherston")

+kentokae No, but Wikipedia has this to say abut it: "In oceanography, they are more precisely defined as waves whose height is more than twice the significant wave height (Hs or SWH), which is itself defined as the mean of the largest third of waves in a wave record. Therefore rogue waves are not necessarily the biggest waves found at sea; they are, rather, unusually large waves for a given sea state. Rogue waves seem not to have a single distinct cause, but occur where physical factors such as high winds and strong currents cause waves to merge to create a single exceptionally large wave.". Tsunamis don't pose much of a threat unless a ship is docked, and rogue waves I guess could be a danger, but a ship as large as a city probably won't turn over because of such a wave, though I suppose there should indeed be a protection for them.
Report spam or abuse
+Silvarret The source of all Tsunamis are earthquakes. The Japanese were the first to document the event and in fact the word Tsunami is Japanese in nature. Although difficult, the study of Rouge waves have lead many researchers to trace several to earthquakes. Rouge waves and Tsunamis could both be the same thing with tsunamis is  when those waves hit land rouges is when they are still at sea. Yes protection from these waves would do well to reduce the lose of life and ensure a certain a certain degree of confidence and dissipate allot of doubt of such a project. so far I see 4 options 1 build an exterior wall  around similar to what the Japanese do., 2 Place the main area 20 to 120 ft above sea level. 3. Build them in areas less prone to earthquakes. Also far away from earthquake zones that is a wave do occur by the time it hits the city, it would be smaller in size no bigger then what you could safely surf on. 4. Build it underwater not only would it look cool but the idea of a submerge city have a romantic appeal to it as well similar to bioshock but less creepy allot less creepy.

Every year virtually everywhere municipalities completely shit the bead when it comes to flood prevention and I'm supposed to trust those same jagoffs to keep this floating city above water?  What fantasist garbage is that?  Anyone who thinks this is our future doesn't know what it takes to maintain things that live in the ocean...It's a harsh environment. Just imagine the stampede, 50'000 people trying to get in boats that might accommodate 800 if that.

that's retarded because the architecture wouldn't allow any airports helipads probably not even boats because i didn't see any boat docs and the sky scrapers are too big for the city and there are no job places there also way to small for 50000

what happens if theres a hurricane or a tsunami. and wouldnt the water erode the sides of the city.
Report spam or abuse
erosion wont effect all building materials plus humans can provide maintenance to buildings to address that. tsunamis can be negated buy building it or a wall at least 20 feet no more the 50 feet above the sea level. certain building designs can withstand even negate hurricane winds with aerodynamics.

What about food and water for 50000 people? Will there be farms and desalination plants on this floating architechture? And what about the garbage that 50000 people will produce? Thrown over board? Droped down to the see? And how will they produce electrical power on it? I don´t see any photovoltaic modules or windmill on that isle. I think to many problems to solve, especially by a bunch of 50000 individuals. This will never been build, this structure will never have the ability to be self-sufficient.

I'm sure there are more environmentally friendly ways if they plan on making these for cities affected by global warming, caused by not taking care of the environment, however would they do this on purpose to profit, knowing full well they will be dead when shit hits the fan?

Marijuana does not save lives if you want to worship and misuse it like you want to. I don't want it to be legal and as far as I am concerned it should never be. No drug should be accessible to the public freely the way that you wish marijuana should be. What I really want is for America to get off the drug cartel payroll and end this drug trafficking once and for all, as for you hippies with this fake ass peace and love attitude about marijuana keep dreaming it is not going to happen, it is not going to be available at your local gas station like cigarettes and all those other harmful things.
