My last name is Gault so it sounded really weird hearing my last name cause they're pronounced exactly the same.

Ok so this helped me hit high notes easier with a lot less strain but I don't have as much power in the high notes and my tone isn't as great can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong

Amazing tips in this video! Thanks for the tutorial

Do you use your 'head voice" during singing when recording or anything? I always just thought my vocal range stopped where my chest voice reached its limit.  just confused
Report spam or abuse
Definitely!  The head voice gets used all the time and can extend your range by a couple octaves, so it's definitely worth working on it.  My "Vocal Breakthroughs" lesson download (here: http://www.galtmusic.com/lessons/products.html) has instruction on how to use the head voice, make it powerful and connect it to the rest of your range so you don't hear a break when transitioning into it.

+Saher Galt Thanks!! I always thought I had such a short range but that extends it a ton! Keep up the good work on these videos! Greats stuff

@sampskaretu when you sing high notes it means instead of the air coming through your chest to your mouth like in chest voice... it comes through more of the nose to help take strain from your vocal chords when hitting the notes.

come ppl give this more likes so it can be at top comment so its easy to get to exercises

i sound like an alien going EE EE so high

it's not good! you should try to sing these high notes step by step, you could destroy your whole voice if you are trying too hard.

Hey! I made a video where I sing with a high voice. Could you check it out? It's on my profile :)

I am the prove of what people say... that a person who isnt born with a gift and cant sing in TUNE will never learn how to sing? fuck you all! I was shit, and when I went to my first singing lesson, the teacher said : ''You cant hit any notes right, we have a lot of work to do! ANd I know you can do it'' and he was right now I sing in tune, can hit some high notes and stuff, all I need left is more practice! but at least he believed in me, not like those other guys on tv shows -.- assholes =)

What's common? Using the piano because it's one of the few instruments that can mimic the voice (tone) of a human? Yeah, that's common.

@loonycarnival Are you an idiot!!!??? Of course smoking will impair your singing voice! Imagine what it's doing to your lungs for a start! You won't have great lung capacity :/ QUIT

5:53 .... what a cute smile sbgalt ..loved your lesson it's very helpful

Hmm, I'd say half a year to a full year to get your range to 2.5 octaves without strain. It may seem like a long time, but it actually feels like a REALLY drastic change, given that the effect is one of "where did all these notes fucking come from?". I would also suggest trying to get a HUGE load of air when trying to use high head voice, and go for a full, rounded sound, but keep the vocal cords themselves light and relaxed. Go for the Julie Andrews Effect.

Dude i really like your lessons but at 7.30 you smile like you would actually listen to my pathetic attempts to sing ;)
Report spam or abuse
I doubt that. No one I've ever met had a particularly small range - most people can usually expand their range to about 3 octaves, sometimes more. In my case, I have a freak five octave range, but it took years to develop, while other people took years to develop their tone more. Besides, as a low alto, I'm sure you can freak out other singers with your awesome lower notes. The mix and the head voice take time - work on it steadily and slowly.

Galt, I love love love your lessons.. It is has been so perferct for my voice.. The problem I am having with my voice I think is still pitch.. I think I am improving.. but I cant stand to hear myself on cd sometimes because I am like so very critical of my sound , pitch. I dont want to be like a computerized fake pitch sound, yet i want to my pitch better than it is.

Is this piano lessons or singing ? I mean common?

Here's a cool harmony to try on the last exercise at 14:30 Do, So, Mi - Fa - Do instead of do, so, mi - re - do all you're changing is the fourth note, going up a minor second rather than going down a major second, which then makes a cool IV - I transition down to the final do. I think. My music theory is shaky at best.

hi my name is blake and i need you to make this video!!!!! i see all these vocal teachers behind the piano and they show how to do the scale but not how to play it on the piano. could u make a series of videos on how to play vocal scales on the piano?:) from very beginner to intermediate to advanced:) it will help me out and im sure others would find it very helpful:) thanks

How long should one perform each exercise?
Report spam or abuse
Most stuff you do though is play piano. T - T

sounds like im constantly getting raped further and further up my butt as my voice gets higher
Report spam or abuse
Erm, well: 1. Relax the throat, 2. Support well from the diaphragm, 3. Keep the notes light, but the tone warm and full, 4. Project the sound through the mask (basically, your entire face), 5. Find a voice teacher. They tend to know what they're talking about (yeah...Classical technique? Good idea), 6. Try to access the whistle register without strain or misuse.

@sbgalt Okay well I'm 14 so you can only imagine how much my voice cracks.. But is it bad when I try to force myself to go high? Iv'e done some research about it and some say it's good and some say it'll strain my throat. What do you think?

@zelda0521 they do this because every persons voice has it's own individual style. People have a tendency to mimic. If you went along with someone else's voice you tend to pick up they vocal style and bad habits they may have. If you can learn to match the tones of a piano, you learn the proper way of matching pitch with out the bias of some one else's personal vocal style. It can be a pain starting out, but it really does help.

Actually, most men can sing until about halfway through the soprano chest register, especially tenors. I as a baritone can somehow manage to belt over an octave above middle C, so really it just depends on where your breaks lie. Although, I should admit that my belts above an A are mixed, so there's really no comparison. If you want a good example of how this all ties in to your question: Mariah Carey. Easily goes down to low C, but belts high as fuck.

To add onto the other commentary, do the opposite and just relax when you try to go high. If the voice cracks, figure out a relaxed way to make it not crack, like doing vocal sirens and getting smoothly from the head voice to the chest voice without a crack. Then, try and find that middle range where it's not quite chest voice and not quite head voice. That would be called a mixed voice. Also, when going high, it's totally cool if the sound gets thinner and smaller.

This really helped! One question though. If you're an alto, like a low register alto, would your head voice be like a soprano's chest voice, or would they be the same?

This video is awesome. I had a lot of trouble doing it because I kept straining my voice and neck, but now i am doing much better thanks to you. :)
