Precision Drilling Rig

by Paul Pereira • 26,564 views

Video is intended for folks who have no idea of what happens on a rig.

So I'm seeing the driller, and 3 other guys. Who is who? I know there's a derrickhand, and a floorhand. Is one of those guys a worm in training?

Throwing chain has been banned throughout PD and several other companies.

Canada that explains why .. Outlawed in ND not here in canada....

why dont you use a sling or single latches to grab the sub? wierd

I think they r ahead of schedule, thats why they're goin slow, and also the driller is not pushin it so that tells they're either makin a delay on purpose, or ahead of schedule. Anyway, I know now that PD rigs r shit all around the world >>>>> Kuwait PD

not true at all throwing chains are used just not with Cat Heads.....

@adanac1 And the floorhand is the entry level position right? I'm trying to get on any drilling rig possible right now. I have no experence.
Report spam or abuse
no they dont actually, precision pays the exact same! I work for PD, CAODC dictates the pay rates Canada wide on drilling rigs. The wages went up on October 2008 to these current rates. Akita, PD, Trinidad etc all pay the same...

What Rig IS THIS ?????????????

around $20/hr. to start, thats for a lease hand. then up to about $24/hr. for a floor hand/ rough neck. Motor hands and derrick hands get between 25-28 depending on the company and experience

This is hard to watch where re the dog collars at, spinning chain? kids

So how much faster do you normally work than this, is it always just gogogogo?

@Gavin Meyer not so much a company but who you work with that makes a good crew. PD has some decent people but like anywhere there are some cranky crews too. if push is bad then you can bet that the crew will be bad.

Report spam or abuse
ever heard of spinning chain? what about locking on your tong and turning the table?
Report spam or abuse
@Barnekkid they do that to add another section of pipe to the string

What rig is this? It is built identical to 404 by what I see of the deadman placement. They have a Tesco top drive on 404 however.

umm have a look at the field reference manual . U must work on a super single cause there used on ALL conventinal Rigs. I would know this as I am a Safety sup with PD .
Report spam or abuse
put your purse down and latch those tongs!!! man we had problems with our directional equipment and were tripping in and out for two weeks straight, we were weak as hell and we still did better then that

looks like it is pd 516. its a diesel electric triple. dont miss those days, invert and mud.

404 for a year (before the iron floorhand), 706 for 6 months. They both use hydraulic and air spinners respectively when those awful orange fluffnecks break down (a lot). If throwing chain is allowed they sure were fond of those spinners. To the point of digging it out of the sea can and scrounging parts together to get it operational. Just curiosity, are you in North Dakota or Canada?

BHA is always pretty slow. And those oversized jaws can be a cunt sometimes.

no screaming at the hands and they are slow, i want to work for this driller and im much faster

Working slow...or pacing themselves? L/D collars is exhausting, then they have to pick up tools, and R.I.H., pulse test every 7-8 stds. Workin' at a steady pace, although it may seem a little slow, wins the race, saves fingers, limbs, and lives. "tengsr"...."locking the tong and turning the table"? Why not hey?....then you can turn around and trip for bit and anything else you spun off downhole (if it was open hole). Give 'er shit tengsr......you obviously know EXACTLY whats goin' on!!

There have been a lot of comments about how slow these guys are. They are not tripping in. I chose this video to show anyone who's never been on a drilling rig how pipe would be tripped in. It is a Precision rig and it is a triple. This is not the speed at which these guys trip. They are as fast as anyone else I've seen when tripping in or out.

wow....these guys are slow...... They need to make these connections alot faster.

wrong.. CAODC monitors pat rates Canada wide and wages are as follows... (CAODC) 2004 Recommended Wage Rates (based on land rigs working an 84 hour work week) Job Title Rate (Approx) Driller $42.00 /hr or $4320.00/wk Asst. Driller $36.50 /hr or $3796.00/wk Derrickhand $35.50 /hr or $3692.00/wk Motorhand $30.50 /hr or $3172.00/wk Floorhand $28.00 /hr or $2912.00/wk Leasehand $26.00 /hr or $2704.00/wk

@Gorbachev this was taken a long time ago and I wasn't a PD hand so I can't say for sure which rig it was. good bunch of guys though.

Thanks for the informative video. I've always wanted to understand this procedure better. It looks like they attached a section of pipe, and then removed a section. What was going on there?
Report spam or abuse
@shashphap They are going slow because those are drill collars and they are extremely heavy that is 2 inch thick wall pipe at the bottom of the drill string. that is about 9000 lbs for a 90 ft section.
Report spam or abuse
lease hands make $26 an hour, roughys get $28 motorman gets $30.50 derrickhand gets $36 and driller gets $42 an hour. mind you, this is akita drilling payroll, precision pays less
