Tame Impala - Wander

by Gunil • 577,950 views

In my opinion the best song on their 6-track EP. Buy: Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=music&field-artist=Tame%20Impala iTunes:...

Some of Tame Impala's older stuff reeks of it's influences. But it's so many amazing influences, and it's done so damn well. Killer attitude, great pop melodies, psychedelic tones, and song-writing for days. Whether it sounds more Zeppelin, or Lennon, or Pink Floyd doesn't even matter.  These vibes are wavy, fuck everything else.

Why do most people here focus on what Tame Impala sounds like instead of enjoying

I dare say this is a modern Led Zeppelin

sounds like late beatles

and that's a bad thing? it's the 21st century and we've been blessed with having tame impala

Does Tame Impala sound like the Beatles? Sure, they (The Beatles) were probably an influence. I personally think most of their stuff sounds more like Cream than the Beatles. But to the ripping off point, if writing and playing music like your influences is "ripping off" then the Beatles (and/or the Stones) did plenty of that when they started out, too.

Kevin Parker didn't ask to have a voice uncannily like John Lennon... he was born that way. He could sing shit like Pitbull and still get accused of copying the Beatles, who copied the likes of old blues stars and Little Richard,,

+manta6 The drums have a Ginger Baker like quality to them. Good Call. I have a conspiracy theory that Ginger played the drums on Paper Back Writer.

"i'm sick of you taking over... i want to record the drums on all our albums..." then what does he say?

They're beautiful in every way I can think of. Ever heard of Lucid Rivers?

+iSynthh imagine if all my paintings looked uncannily like all of picaso's blue period works... no matter how good they were executed, it's still someone else's thing.

+qfabny not the point dude...nobody 'owns' a certain sound...it's good to be inspired by other artists' sounds. If they were a beatles cover band they'd be dressed as the beatles, same hairstlye as the beatles and cover beatles songs...

Can someone explain to me how the circle of fifths or fourths or relative major or minor was used in the song. I'm trying to understand it to create music of my own. I kinda get it, kinda don't. Like how does the melody fit for both the key in the middle (instrumental) and the key at the end?
Report spam or abuse
well, Im still trying to get a grip on music theory myself, so hopefully I don't mislead you; and maybe someone can correct my stupidity and help us both out. The circle of fifths (as I understand it) is just a way to help memorize the major scales. You start with C (no sharps or flats in C major scale), then the fifth of C is G (G major has one sharp, being F#), the fifth of G major is D (D has two sharps F# & C#) and so on until you get back to C. Its just a helpful way of learning what scales have what sharps and flats, which later helps learning what key you're in (since multiple chords are shared within each key). The relative minor is just a minor chord played 3 half steps down from you're current root note (So the minor 4th of A major is F#, A=1, Ab=2, G=3, F#=4th) as for how its used in the song, ill have to get back to you, but I'll investigate because like you i'm trying to piece everything together to make it easier to create stuff on the fly, and transfer stuff from my head to an instrument faster with less hassle. I can do it but it's sort of like a child learning to read. They have the basic idea, but they have to sound stuff out phonetically and it takes a while. Hope this helps a little

Yeah I get what you're saying, thanks fam! We'll get this music theory thing down one day (y)

Stealing every beatle riff from the late 60's and making a living out of it must be nice.

How about the foo fighters, the drummer of the band goes on to start another great band, speaks to the depth of talent that was there.
Report spam or abuse
+skinny12331 No i do like Nirvana, I just think they are at a certain level (lets just say 8/10), but for some reason people put them on a level that is like 12/10, and I personally think the Foo Fighters are better and think Dave Grohl is more talented, I also think Kevin Parker of Tame Impala is more talented than Kurt too, but he play like 95% of everything on every album and EP, and writes nearly all of it

I hate who defends drugs as their life would be the worst without it.. Come one ppl.. Let's us noobies alone.. I will never put a drug in my body.. I prefer psycho music, yoga and healthy food.. I can leave my body and know the masters.

I've always thought that this song sounds like George Harrison and Paul McCartney joined Cream and George is singing and Paul's playing bass
Report spam or abuse
@Chacha5678 oh cool. I heard that too. An electronic album though. It's going to be largely influenced from Todd Rundgren's, 'A Wizard, a True Star' from what I've been told

I'm just going to tell myself she's a troll. It's okay, heh... heh.. she didn't mean it.. (self comforting).

i like this better than beatles honestly..it's like they added more classic psychedelic rock or queens of the stone age almost

for many years i have resorted to pink floyd and etc to listen to psychadelic rock/ambient style music knowing that there will never be music like this made again, but thanks to a friend, he showed me one of tame impala's songs and i have gotten really hooked to it. I'm so glad my friend showed me this as i know this music generation is awesome and now i have found out more bands like this including deerhunter, of montreal and ubyk!

@missjellybun how about you grow up? music is entirely subjective and there is no such thing as a rubbish band b/c everyone has a different style and taste in music. it's absolute ignorance, hatred, generalization etc, that people just need to keep to themselves. what do you really hope to achieve by saying this? why are you even wasting your time on here if you don't favor the music? judging people based on their preference of music doesn't say something about them, it says something about you.

Not the same Beatles influence, but Spacemen 3 will forever be my favorite psychedelic band. Also the Spacemen 3 offshoots of Spectrum and Spiritualized (I've listened to more Spiritualized) are nice and dreamy. MGMT and the Flaming Lips also have the same producer and a psychedelic feel, although vastly different. Idk it's hard because as much as Tame Impala is retro, they also have a unique sound.

fuck me, i got naturally high lol

Music can put anybody in a certain mood. Being in a good mood and being high just makes the high better. So in conclusion, good mood songs make better highs.

What the shit are you talking about. I wasnt judging you at all... I meant its a shame you had to be INTRODUCED by a friend. I didnt mean its a shame YOU had to be introduced. I was saying its a shame that this music isnt as popular as it deserves. Sorry if that didnt come across.
