Yes because we all have small computer fans that we collected over the years.

I could use one of those blowing on my balls about now.

Where can I get computer fans like those

I had a load of computer fans, and I carve wood, needed a small sawdust extractor (sawdust vacuum),so I made a sawdust vacuum!! didn't cost me anything! and it works really well! my med. sized fans need 12v, can I use a 9v battery for both? (I got this idea from make magazine, your solder fume extractor- would you like the plans for it? I also made a yardstick coat hanger wire antenna (I sent the plans to make magazine).
Report spam or abuse
You can use 9v for it, it'll work fine.

Hey kipkay, that third wire other than red and black has a resistive input.. Kinda like a speed switch. You could've hooked it up thru a two way switch and have a speed control on your hands...
Report spam or abuse
for silence use a large computer fan spins slower, but moves more air
Report spam or abuse
I made a mini fan/LED light because of your idea kipkay. It is a fan from a broken NEC computer, a 9volt from by house, the container from my house, a red LED from RadioShack, and a 3 way small switch from RadioShack.

What am I gonna do with all of my 180 used CPU Fans? I know! Hot glue 5 fans to my CPU so it always stays cool. NEVER OVERHEATS! GUARANTEED!

I just made this! It's so awesome! :D I had a old computer monitor laying around, and a coffee can :)

$2 ? Really and like we all have a stash of computer fans

Im turning mine into a smoke capsul
Report spam or abuse
Can I use Graphic card that has fan?
Report spam or abuse
Can I cool my computer like this or does the air have moisture?
Report spam or abuse
No. The difference between the temperature of the air that is exhausting and air at room temperature is (I'm going to estimate) 10-15 degrees F. Now most people keep their air conditioning set to about 70 - 80 degrees fahrenheit. Computer components such as graphics cards and CPU's run anywhere from 122 degrees F to 212 degrees F. We'll average those together at about 167 degrees. The difference between the temperature of those components and room temperature is about 85 degrees. A 10 degree difference is not going to do much, also consider the fact that you will have to replace that ice frequently. If you want to cool your computer better get better fans

To be portable connect a USB up to a battery pack that charges phones.
Report spam or abuse
What if the fans wires arent red and black, but white black and grey?
Report spam or abuse
generally white is the hot wire...test with a multimeter, u really should have one of these if you're planing on doing any of this stuff anyway...u can get one for like 10 bucks
Report spam or abuse
So basically... its a compacted version of the homemade air conditioning...
Report spam or abuse
It's what is commonly called a "Swamp-Cooler".  Early cars before AC compressors used to use the same principle to cool the cabin of the car, but just using the outside air blowing across a block of ice that was held in the container.  You can make a room sized cooling system doing the same thing with a styrofoam cooler chest, some PVC piping and a 12V portable fan or 120v household fan.  Works great with using a frozen milkjug of water, no water mess and can refreeze the container when needed.
Report spam or abuse
+ASTGaming Yeah, I accidentally read it as "home air conditioning" not homemade.
Report spam or abuse
Because everyone casually has a computer fan thing. It would be more than $2 cause u have to buy the fan
Report spam or abuse
This is a good thing to have when you just wanna... Chill with your friends.
Report spam or abuse
I am going to make this but would dry ice be better to use since it is colder and doesn't melt as fast as regular ice?
Report spam or abuse
+Fat Hamster Assuming, obviously, that the room isn't vacuum sealed
Report spam or abuse
this shit again huh? carbon dioxide is a waste product of human aerobic respiration, INHALING it isn't any less toxic than drinking your own urine...think about it
Report spam or abuse
or just buy a fan :P
Report spam or abuse
How many volts is the fan??
Report spam or abuse
wheres the 2 dollar part
Report spam or abuse
Coffee can 7$ Drill 100$ Computer fan 2$ 9 volt. Battery 5$ X-acto knife 7$ Hot glue gun and sticks 50$ Ice (water) 2$ Bag for the ice 1$ Binder clips 1$ Computer to plug in 800$ Home to put computer in 200,000$ This costs 200,975$ Would not recommend
Report spam or abuse
You don't need the home, drill, binder clips, ziplock bag, and ice(this is a maybe)
Report spam or abuse
I really love kipkay's various handy homemade devices, and this is no exception. Could something like this have use in developing nations, to keep people, food, and medicine cool? If a village has a bar or tavern, there'd be a ready source for ice.
Report spam or abuse
You could add salt to the ice too as a bonus
Report spam or abuse
Bro you said two dollars you worst than a fast food AD.
Report spam or abuse
All the fans I have are 12V...will it still work with a 9V battery? And usb?

Report spam or abuse
what size coffee container is that? Also can you make an kit that we can order?
Report spam or abuse
thanks for this video. im going to make that a/c in no time
Report spam or abuse
If you put one of these in a cooler, could it act as a mini refrigerator and keep all your beverages cool?
Report spam or abuse
i thought this was cool than i tried it and it didnt work it cooled the air 1 degree F! this is a good idea but doesnt work!
Report spam or abuse
you really shouldent let your cat drink from the pool. chlorine is toxic and is pretty bad for small animals like cats.
Report spam or abuse
Very cool thank you :-)
Report spam or abuse
Was that pun intended?
Report spam or abuse
I just made one with a 12v fan and a 12v AC adapter. Works great!
Report spam or abuse
I took the cool can idea a little further and made it into a cool claw machine
Report spam or abuse
What happens if you don't have soldering machine
Report spam or abuse
what you want is called a "bread board" they're used for prototyping circuits: no soldering required
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
the usb power only provide 5V, no way the fan is going to spin
Report spam or abuse
I have a 140mm fan which easily spins with 5volt, I used it as a external cooler.
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
If i made the stuff you made and put it around my i would look so weird.
Report spam or abuse
That's good for a trip to California, it's very hot in the car
Report spam or abuse
Where do u buy this stuff for your projects for me the 9v battery clips are like $5
Report spam or abuse
A fan uses the air behind it, thats why if you've ever covered the back part up the fan slows down, the only thing you really need to do is put ice behind a fan or dry ice, however that is just CO2
Report spam or abuse
Would I fry a 4 volt case fan if I hooked it up to a 9 volt battery?
Report spam or abuse
Yes, don't try it. It might work for a minute or two but then shut off and not work.
Report spam or abuse
I made one but I think I choose a too slow-running fan because it doesn't blow very well
Report spam or abuse
Great Pou Horse +kipkay, i hope you could make more of those!
Report spam or abuse
You could add salt to the ice too as a bonus
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
or duct tape a ziploc bag to the back of a hand fan put ice in it and turn it on
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
It's not 2 $ it's about $10
Report spam or abuse
U know I made this, but not to show off... I made it with extra batteries and with a switch. But I not showing off I'm just giving kipkay a tip of making upgrades of the 2$ Cool fan.
Report spam or abuse
I'm pretty sure everyone just watches his videos and never actually makes any of them. Lol
Report spam or abuse
I just made one of these, but I used the small can for freezing and a bigger coffee can for for the cooler. I also attached a on/off switch. I used a spade bit to make holes in the side of the larger coffee can.

I thought the cats name was tux not domino?

tux and domino there are two of them i think.

Oh my gosh 2$ for you about 20$ for me
Report spam or abuse
you payed 10 times as much!
Report spam or abuse
Hey kipkay can you make video called "How to make smokebom 2" plz kipkay.
Report spam or abuse
What happened to Tux? (The other cat that looked like the one by the pool)
Report spam or abuse
I thought it will cool your Cokeacola
Report spam or abuse
lol, 1;05, i bought a "tupac"
Report spam or abuse
Thanks kipkay! It really works for me, specially because i'm living in a tropical country, and it's hot right now.

Report spam or abuse
I have a USB powered fridge big enough for a 375mL can that can actually cool it down and its only powered by a fan, oh yeah it was $5
Report spam or abuse
U can use dry ice over ice
Report spam or abuse
Why flip the red and black cables?
Report spam or abuse
The polarity on the USB--->9V-clip has the be the same as on the 9V battery. (small knob + ; bigger knob -) So when you plug it into the other 9V clip you get red + ; black - . It is a little hard to describe but I hope this helps ;)

i mean charge you ipod or iphone with fire

i thought about using a regular fan with plastic 2 litter bottles frozen with ice to cool a small room.  the bottles would have some condensation from melting but water on the inside wont get out.plus i could put the bottles in a plastic tub
Report spam or abuse
can their be a battle which charges faster for that charge your iphone or ipod faster this vs the other
Report spam or abuse
Warning: Have lots of towels
Report spam or abuse
you can probably put the ice in a small cup as well

Fan at least $5.00 Coffee Box: $6.00 (I dont drink coffee) Battery: $2.00 Battery holder thing: $1.50 USB: $3.00 Hot Glue gun (including glue): $5.00 Computer Grill: $3.00 X-Acto Knife: $3.05 Drill: $40.00 Total: $65.55 (mental math)
Report spam or abuse
all the things u say aren't certain. not everyone can find an old PC in there dumpster.not everyone has toys that have battery holders in them. not everyone has USB cables lying around. and there is no guarantee that you know people that own an X-acto knife, drill and hot glue gun. So calm your tits keyboard warrior.

Fan at least : 2$ (everyone has some fans they can find) Coffee Box : Get used one free. even if you dont drink coffee you can get it. also it doesnt have to be a coffe box, it can be anything else. Battery : 2$. you are right here, but powering this from 9V is stupid. it will only last for 10 minutes max. battery holder thing : 1$ or you can get free from used 9v battery. USB : 1$ max for an usb cable, + I'm sure you can get one free from a friend or something. Hot Glue Gun : maybe 5$ but everyone has an hot glue gun, and if not u should buy because it is useful for alot of things, not just this project and also for alot of time. Computer Grill : 1$. Knife : you cut your food with knife right? you can use any knife or any thing you can think of to cut. and also even if you buy this x-acto knife you can use this knife for alot of other things. Drill : 40$? everyone has drills. drill is useful for alot of things. if you dont have drill you should buy it now. than you should also say "house : million, food : other million" why not? this project is 10$ max. the tools cost more but alot of people has those tools alerady.
