AKAI mpc 5000 Burning LCD screen burn problem

by Synthesizers • 5,169 views

This is the second time the LCD on my mpc5000 sampler has died. I requested akai to send me a replacement MPC since this is definitely a factory problem and a fire hazard and they refused. They...

This just happened to my mpc5000. Wondering if anybody was able to fix theirs? Was thinking about replacing the whole lcd screen assembly. Someone mention the inverter needing to be changed perhaps??

I ended up replacing the whole screen for $400.00 and then sold the machine as I personally believe it's the machine from hell. Good luck, you are on your own and Akai WILL NOT HELP you.

This happened to me as well. The problem with the existing circuit. The CCFL bulb will eventually blow over time also to power the bulb a high frequency circuit is used as well. This will also go faulty. What I done to fix the issue was replace the ccfl bulb with LEDs and used +12VDC to power the LEDs. Works well.

Yeah I que xplored this option...eventually just paid someone to fix it ($400) and sold it. That machine is cursed.

I also have problems with my MPC some of the buttons like the cursor are troubleshooting and need to be pressed really hard. The shift button too. And one of my pads does not play when I press it. Has anyone else had problems like this? Can this be fixed?

@drcompressor I know and I understand, it's like getting stabbed in the back.

This is not a dead LCD, the inverter/ EL backlight just burned out.. Hence why you still can read the display with the flashlight. Those parts can be replaced separately.

Akai would not fix it or replace it the second time it happened even with this video. The first time it happened they did fix it but the second time it happened I had to pay 400 dollars to someone to fix it and then I got rid of it because the machine had caused way too many headaches to have it around. It was detrimental to my production and creativity. I now hate Akai, yet I still use an mpc2500 with JJOS, that I will never change. But The MPC5k is not made by real Akai, it's made by "NUKAI"

@FuturedaveyP I paid 400 bucks and got it fixed. Going back to mpc5k. Oh by the way, nuakai blows.

Well it's a long story, basically akai had my wrong return address and they would not freaking answer my emails and my RMA expired and I was never able to send it... ultimately this should not have happened.

i just had that happen to me after having it only a month. does anyone know wher i can find a video that shows how to replace the screen

@optimystikill I think the mpc2500 is a much better purchase, in fact I am back with the mpc 2500 and jjOS and I love it. I had the mpc5000 for about a year when this happened for the first time, the machine was repaired for free (warranty) and then one year later it happened again, this time it cost me 400 to fix. I know of at lest 3 or 4 other people who have had the same problems. I would stir away from it, I actually hate this machine for all the downtime and headaches it created for me.

Smoke and flickering screen = turn the shit off! If you can see that there is an issue with your gear...why would you let it damage itself? has Akai done anything to help you get it sorted? if not, now much did it cost to get repaired? or do you still use it as a strobe light/ smoke machine

Sell it as a smoking machine lol

This can be fixed but honestly NuAkai no longer supports this machine and you will probably never see another OS update.

@ritec You paid to get it fixed? Why dint Akai sort it? If this machine would work it would be a dream (i started out recording on a Tascam 4 track which i thought was magic back then!) but it seems this kind of machine is only a dream. Its pissing me right off that iv handed over £1200 for a pile of junk that doesn't work.

The Machine is HELLA expensive, it cost me $2,500 it's the most expensive thing I've bought in my life... nukai sucks.

@drcompressor Yep man, I tried to tell Akai but they would not listen, now they have all this damage control social team setup trying to be all nice and fun when in reality they don't give a damn.
