I loved this clip - the editing, the look. Even the picture quality is bad, it somehow adds to the old school vibe. And the song, damn.....

For a seventies soul education, your next stop needs to be Bobby Womack. Across 110th Street.

@LUFCSPACEMAN obviously you do not know the history of curtis mayfield's music, and why we wrote the music he did. curtis wrote for the progression of black people and for the blaxploitation films of the time. this song in particular he wrote as an "anthem" for blacks because of the time that they were in... black panthers etc. so, in conclusion- know your history.

@mwalimu97 classical musicians could say the same about this. i think it's all about ones taste in music. i feel like it's really just a cycle. in 20-30 years, i might be saying the same exact thing about that generation's popular music. this is not a 'hate rant'. i'm just suggesting that you shouldn't generalize music. you might miss out on some 'hidden gems'.

Amazing Song by an Amazing Artist!! Real heart & Soul, the likes of which is very, very rare today. Just one thing...why is it that some people feel the need to catagorise a musician by the colour of their skin "black musician" ,"black artist", "black music" etc, can he not just be a great musician (which he is).

Great music is great music; it is pointless to compare between genres or periods. Bad is bad, Great is Great. This is my fav though...getting down to move on up.

this looks like Japanese to me, the online translator returned this: ""It's cool design with the songs." It is said that the word does not belong." ...? ;-)

Hip Hop, Just Blaze, Kanye, is not stealing this incredible music, they are trying to spread it. Hip hop is deeper than the image profiteers project. It is soulful.

Continued.- In terms of this being "black music" as some have called this, I can hear quite a few latin beats in there. Also blues was not just founded upon African music, the Irish had a part to play in it as well. Music is a massive melting pot it has no single 'colour', and to label it as that helps create segregation, a fertile breeding ground for fear and ignorance - the foundations of Racism, something we as human beings desperately need to leave behind and 'Move on up!' Peace.

@viewmore100 actually no i am quite intelligent. you are just ignorant to why curtis mayfield wrote this song, and what movement it was taking place during. most of curtis mayfield's music was associated with the blaxploitation films, that dealt with black pride and power. check out "we the people who are darker than blue" and "miss black america" to name a couple. it is well known his music was for black empowerment and to boost black's self-esteem. research before you make idiotic comments

@JBraden I agree everthing you said here is so true. I am not sure why most people think this stuff that is being played or performed around the country is music. There is no way our current so called artist can be compared to the true musician of the past.
