"Sometimes when we disagree, I feel frustrated. But I never forget how lucky I am to have you in my family. Always remember how special you are" ~Audio captured from 1981 of Fred Rogers having an argument with his wife on set. Mr. Rogers projected an air of genuine, unwavering, almost saintly pure-hearted decency. But when you look deeper, at the person behind the image ... that's exactly what you find there, too. He's exactly what he appears to be.

Darn it all....this made me cry. Mr. Rogers was such a fixture in my childhood. Watching him now makes me cringe at the vulgarity that kids see today. I realize that times change and perhaps he represented a glamorized version of times past, but there was great humanity and gentleness in his show that is sadly missing now.

Report spam or abuse
+mr. bigglesworth Why is it that people like you can't feel good about liking something unless someone else feels bad about liking the things that they do? Comparisons aren't necessary. Take a hint from Mr. Rogers and accept that everyone is different and likes different things for different reasons.

This is such an awesome tribute to a man that single-handedly shaped the adults of today by empowering them with wholesome thoughts and vivid imaginations and a powerful sense of discovery.

Simpler steps are also available: participating in the fund raiser drives for PBS ("Paid for by views like you"); voting on state and federal legislation that upholds these types of shows and puts bans on age-inappropriate shows that regularly appear on "children's" networks; literally, no kidding, writing your congressman for bills like this even works.  State legislation passes roughly 17x more bills than federal, but either is a good place to start.

You are so very missed. So many of us had only three channels to choose from. Here in northeast Mississippi, the channels were 9, 4, and 12. Sometimes you could pick up another TV station or two using the UFH if you were really lucky. Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, and the Electric Company influenced so many children over the years. They taught us to accept everyone for who they truly were. They taught us how to count, spell, and to let your imagination run free. There was no racism in those shows. No shows with people teaching hate and discrimination against one another. I wish that I could go back in time to the year 1974 when I was just five years old and watch Mr. Rogers for the first time all over again. He taught us that it was okay to be a kid and make mistakes so we would learn from them. To respect all adults, especially our parents, no matter who they were. There was no black and white in his world. No brown, yellow, tan, or what made up their physical beings. The most important message he taught me was to love myself.
Report spam or abuse
I'm 18 years of age. To this VERY day, from the time I was about 4 or 5 years old, I still watch Mister Roger's Neighborhood as if I were my younger self. Even more into it now, than I was when I was little. This is truly very inspiring, and very moving. I truly love this. I still tear up EVERY, single time I listen to this song. Both, he and this song, are and always will be a very comforting presence in my life. If only everyone could view the world and other people around them as Mr. Fred Rogers did...... This world would be so much better.

With-in the garden of this minds eye the long day, heavy mists rising, before known has turned to twilight, and the heart that crowds my chest hurts me so.  I moan like the mountain thrush. Then from the mountains where hides a great truth, a god aloof is pleased to wander. A wind comes blowing, and I stand alone. Morning and night, it pulls at my senses and I think how auspicious is that one word, ~ backwards ~ ~back wards~ ~back words~ ~hidden words in back~ but in back of what?? I call myself a man of spirit, but on this journey I seek grass for a my pillow. My thoughts keep going back,,, ~ backwards ~ ~back wards~ ~back words~ ~hidden words in back~ No way to stop them, and like the fires that burn when those who fish in the bottomless bay boil down their salt, backwords memories burn deep within my heart. And what's utterly fabulous ( and i'm being 1000% serious here) is that Fred Rogers apparently was NOT a closet pedaphile. How many stories have we heard about people once thought wonderfully who turned out to be utter sociopaths. ( A certain Cosby springs to mind) He seemed to genuinely LOVE children, not...well in a deviant way. Bless this man
