I think the trance-like droning intro is the greatest thing I've ever heard.

“Mojo Pin” is the first song on Jeff Buckley’s 1994 album Grace. It was written by Jeff Buckley and Gary Lucas, and was first introduced on his EP, Live at Sin-é. Buckley stated that the song was about a dream of a black woman. Through a wash of bizarre images, the lyrics convey a feeling of addiction, either to drugs or a person. In Jeff’s words, “Sometimes if somebody you feel you need… the whole universe tells you that you have to have her, you start watching her favorite TV shows all night, you start buying her the things she needs, you start drinking her drinks, you start smoking her bad cigarettes, you start picking up her nuances in her voice, you sleep in safe sometimes the most dangerous thing… this is called Mojo Pin.” (Astoria, London, UK, 18/01/95)

I used to think Thom Yorke was my favorite singer, until I came across Jeff Buckley. This performance alone warrants that title.

The original poster is easy to fool and easily led because his "Faith" in his Apotheotic  Religion freed his mind of the duty to think.Atheism is a negation of a false belief system but anyone who has ever cared to know Truth has known almost inherently that all organized religions are instituted that the mass morality of humanity be controlled.Do you really need an apotheotic belief system to tell you something that you would have known already if you were awake and thinking.Atheism is the False Dichotomy based Hegelian Dialectic empowered attempt to restore a population who was awakening from the clamor of cognitive dissonance.I never worshiped a god and I was never an Atheist either.

+a gypsyranger I am willing to share anything with you.My only concern that you do not know me well enough to understand the words I use.But I will try: It is because I serve Truth.I have no certain truth in mind,I mean "All That Which Is True" as well as the idea of Truth as a moral concept.I do not claim to know The Truth but I have garnered much in my attempt to know it.Truth does not serve me and I do not ask it to.Knowledge serves me.This knowledge was internalized (or filed in external memory) during my attempts to know the Truth. We cannot definitively know the Truth;it is an open ended body which is continuously expanded by the internalization of knowledge encountered or "discovered" after it has been filtered by Logic or Understanding .This new knowledge causes Realization of a larger Truth.I use the occult terminological designation of Realize, which is to "make real".Real is all that of which we are aware of as truly existing. You may recognize my Trivium in this process. You must spend time on the Trivium. It is a tool of both occultation as well as de-occultation.But I digress.I see now that to convey the understanding I would have to footnote this dissertion to stop confusion due to digression.    Truth and Goodness are their own defense mechanisms as long as you stay true to them and have no fear.    Also:I have no malevolent ax to grind.Any work I do with my ax is intended to serve Truth and to help humanity.I have no ego.I don't need to ''win" by interposing my rationality on another.I have little to fear from trolls. My Truth is self evident and can reprogram them like playing a "Change Of Hearts" card in the role playing game Yugio.

the trivium is necessary to be sure truth is my highest as well - fine tuning forever pain in right hand very high right now, must seek relief nothing should be avoided as all moments involve learning to the open ones except maybe this pain :)

Like water, his voice flows through the waves of sound. What angel has lived among us? I truly mourn for the silence that has befallen that golden voice, and for the beauty that has died forever with Tim and Jeff.

I would recommend the unfinished album he was working on before he died. his mother and the producers finished it and made it his last album which most of the songs he made in his house most of the songs alone. and they are pure and raw. its called sketches for my sweetheart the drunk. i think its more of what yur looking for. try You and I its eery. Haha funny but im a girl just a P.S

i`m getting crazy, 5:20AM and i`m thinking how great it would be if i could just sell my soul to devil, travel back in time, and be a god damn microphone for a 12 minutes
Report spam or abuse
ya you will find that in many of the live shows he did that are posted up on youtube and there is alot. in his albums put out(besides grace) most songs are not produced to the public showing him going out of his element which i was also searching for for a while because i also enjoyed that. live is the way to go. producers cut out all that stuff he did for the purpose of length i suppose and prob because main stream listeners did not enjoy his what some call yelling ahahah
Report spam or abuse
I know exactly what you mean, but this man is already a legend ;]
Report spam or abuse
His music is like a strange spiritual feeling its so amazing
Report spam or abuse
Nonetheless, it does bring about a soothing feel to the performance. I'd prefer no lighting and then ascend into a vibrant blue when he hits the chorus
Report spam or abuse
Hmm, well I'm looking for powerful songs, I like it when he gently paces himself through the first minutes of the song, and then explodes at the end (like Mojo Pin and Grace really). But every other song I find are really very gentle... Not that it's a bad thing, I might get into that later, but I just wanna hear more songs where he uses his voice to the fullest :p.
Report spam or abuse
@ONEGUNCITY He used an Alesis rack reverb. Its some sort of Hall Delay on full with no clean signal coming through. Has chorus on it too maybe?

I don't know enough of the man's work to make that call. I do know that personal names are supposed to be capitalized. It's Phil Collins.
Report spam or abuse
You should really listen to "so real". It's really dynamic song like this one. It sarts out really slow and gets more intense as it goes.

@TransparentVisions Really?!.. what a very lucky dude! not for seeing nirvana, but for this beauty star! :)

This man sends me into a mood no other musician can achieve.

Right on point. I don't know any singer today who can sing like Jeff could.

Yeah, but he really hates being compared to his dad

Im so glad that this version has finally been posted on YouTube. This song has possibly the best build of all times

@bluesfunkrocker Love em both, dude,, saw em live both!!

It's obvious that I am much older than you because I remember events like when this song came out and when Jeff Buckley died. Because I happen to know this, you assumed I googled this? The information I stated is prior knowledge from interviews, news, documentaries. Most people who listen to buckley no what year he died. Your question is dumb because you could have had the intelligence to search it on google, instead of making yourself look like a dumb-ass here on youtube.

the beautyfull man in the beautyfull song. i love this
Report spam or abuse
I must confess that the original question was just a trollish way of saying that his singing sounds a bit too perfect, too self-serious and overwrought, for my tastes. Like auto tune with (too much) heart and emotion.
Report spam or abuse
Now you are just trolling. You have the right to have an opinion but don't just put down someone's opinion and claim yours is a fact. I didn't know having a love and passion for music was a bad thing. imo I think most of phil collins sound alike, vocals and instrumental wise which is probably why his last few albums aren't good. For example, in the air tonight sounds like any other typical phil collins song. I thought every song he sang on tarzan sounded the same too.

This version left me completely speechless. That INTRO. Wow. You can tell that his band mates were spellbound by what he was doing. This is 12 full minutes of captivation. Loooooove. <3

One cannot simply express with words what Jeff Buckley could do with his voice and musicianship. His music affected my life and I'm grateful it did.

I was one year old when this was performed. I'm so upset about my inconvenient time of conception, but nevertheless have an undying appreciation for his unique talent.

This video makes me feel closer to Jeff than ever. Maybe it's the good video quality, opposed to what we usually have of him. Or maybe it's because of the camera's close ups,but something just screams "alive". God,how I miss this beautiful face!
Report spam or abuse
Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Musicologist. Just cos you can google the date of Cher's last face lift doesn't make my question dumb. It just makes you google-literate.

I know this is probably the least interesting aspect of this video, but the lighting is just incredible and fits the song so well.

This is breathtaking... any Buckley fan that has not seen this is missing an opportunity to see the spirituality in his music and performances. He almost goes into a trance to dive deep into his soul to extract the essence of what he is getting ready to convey - like a shaman. Yes the audience had no idea that what they were witnessing was truly historic , mind altering, and sublime.

Thanks, thanks thanks...It's perfect. Jeff, the video and the audio. Thanks again!

@AhmetCanK Jeff used an Alesis Quadraverb digital rack effects processor for this, you can get them for really cheap used and on ebay. It's a near 100&% wet reverb drenched signal with chorus and delay thrown in for an extra dreamy and shimmery effect. This is the video that made me want to get the Quadraverb in the first place. I love Jeff, the man and his music, he was and always will be a beautiful and talented soul.
