This is a condensed version of the beautiful Last Dollar Road, which winds its way through the mountains above Telluride, Colorado. This video ends before you reach the Telluride airport. To see...

Hello & great vid!  Looking for some help.  Leaving from NJ in Jeeps for the San Juan Mountains In Colorado and Moab, Utah this summer.  My buddy and I are starting to plan the trip.  We're thinking Ouray, Telluride, etc for about 5 days.  Any good advice on what we must see and do is welcome! Thanks!

going to telluride in june.  is this road passable that time of year?
Report spam or abuse
Yes, it will be fine, although at that time of year it has a tendency to get swampy from all the spring run off. There may be large puddles or stream crossings you need to get over.

You should have put in a quick shot of the ranch used in John Waynes movie True Grit. You are so close to the spot

The section between 3:50 and 6:50 can be a little hairy when it's wet. I drove it a few weeks ago in mid July 2011 in an FJ Cruiser 6 speed manual (though with street tires). There was a hailstorm followed by a torrential downpour. I'm really glad I didn't meet anyone coming up in this section. When I started to slide I used the rut on the mountainside to keep it from sliding left. I was going sideways where you've got no business doing that. The video seems longer than driving it took.

Thank you. I feel much better now.

I love Last Dollar Road! It is a favorite destination any time we come to Colorado in Autumn. The vistas are incredible! The aspen forests of the San Juans have a sense of magic when they change to their gold and yellow hues. Its a shame the Fall season comes only once a year, but it is something worth waiting for. We have plans to go there again in late September. What a beautiful place!

Jeepstergal, what's the music you used for this?

Take 115 out to Canon City, go to Monarch Pass and go to Montrose and head toward Ridgway/Ouray area. In Ridgway, take Hwy 62 like you are heading to Telluride. A few miles past the summit of the Dallas Divide, you will see the turnoff on the left for Last Dollar Road. Follow it all the way to Telluride. Have fun!

Traveled this trail in 2011. Takes my breath every time I watch your video. WOW!!!

I think this guy was trailing (not offroading) in a prius not a jeep because anyone who has a jeep is going take the offroad part of the trail

Hey gal. I always love your videos. We had planned on taking this road out of Telluride to go back to our cabin on Cristobal. But we did Imogene TO Telluride and didn't have the time. I can't wait to go back and do it. We posted ours from last year and are leaving next week to go back again. Doing Tincup, Pitkin, Alpine loop, etc. Thanx again

I pointed this video out to some friends in the Chicago area who haven't been to Ouray in 24 years. After watching this video, they have "coerced" me into a trip to Ouray in July, 2010. Could I refuse? Does life get better than that? Thanks, JeepsterGal for another excuse to go back.

Driving thru Colorado on the dirt winding roads, some of which are only a few inches away from the edge of a steep downward drop. I have wonderful memories of this great place on our planet. Much enjoyed your vid and the music. Thanks "M" from downunder

By early July this road should be snow-free, but does tend to get swampy from the runoff, but nothing you can't get through easily. Roads like Engineer and others nearer Silverton will not be passable at that time though. Have fun!

Love this! Will be there July 1-5 and will give it a go in my Rubicon. Hope all of this late snow will be gone.

This is one of my favorites! Reminds me a lot of the trails I used to run in California. Wish I could have made the trip to the San Juan's this year... If you do this again next summer, please let us know... I'm sure I'll have time next year to make the trip... One question: what kind of camera mount are you using? On some of your videos it looks like you have moved to an external mount...

Hi Jeepstergal! How long does it take to go from Noel to telluride on last dollar road?

Don't know who it is, but sounds Native American, perfect fit for Colorado.

@Copperpenny1962 Not sure why it's named that, but I would give my Last Dollar to live on it! Yes, it's a VERY easy dirt road...there are a couple of creek crossings that can be deep depending on rain and snowfall, which high-clearance helps with, but other than that, if it's dry, it's almost passenger car accessible. It's one of the most beautiful drives in the state, I think...the old growth aspen forest is immense.

Hi Jeepstergal, did you go al the way on 58P or the long way?
Report spam or abuse
Got a whole video devoted to that movie and that ranch and where it was filmed. Look at my channel and visit the True Grit Then and Now video :)
Report spam or abuse
Ye, Last Dollar is a nice, easy drive. The only hinky spots are a few water holes that it might help to have a higher clearance vehicle. Gear-wise, only near the top do you need a little umph to get up and over the pass :) Beautiful trail, for sure!

Just run this 2 weeks ago..Then went up Ophir Pass and back to the KOA in Ouray. We are there every year mid July. Look for the Full Size Jeeps. Thanks for all the videos JeepsterGal.

A milion thanks for posting this! As a kid I saw the many beautiful photos taken from this road, in coffee-table books! But as a Texan here who's happily been to Telluride 3-4 times ... the conditions were never right for driving this road, much less in a cheap rent-car (do you need four-wheel-drive?) ... I guess the road conditions need to be dry .. sad I missed it I've never drove it, but now I have to !! I luv ya Jeepster Gal .. now just post a vid of going over Black Bear Pass!
