@stevenxowens792 what about the support? i heard a lot about AW and its good support and dell in general, however the mobility is what makes this difficult, i want that mobility but when i look at the price i think again thats why i cant decide to get a gaming notebook or a gaming desktop. i understand the limitations of notebooks(and why they are so pricey) but a gaming desktop seems more reasonable to me i have been a console gamer for years thats why this kind of ... @ucanttuchdis5678 - games these days require true quads (8 threads for I7 series). I saw huge differences between my old I3-350 in the m15x to the I7-2630qm in the m14x. If a hundred bucks is a make or brake item, then alienware may not be the choice for you. Maybe asus or hp?

I plan on getting this laptop for gaming, should I go ahead and upgrade the video card to 3GB or keep it at 1.5GB. I am also going to upgrade the screen resolution.

@stevenxowens792 Thanks for the help. So you did not have to pay for shipping and only the laptop.

@stevenxowens792 How did you get 92 fps avg on bfbc2 high? I've got similar settings on my M14x and I can only get about 50-60fps avg. Is your system overclocked?

@ImLegend932 - 2nd and 3rd level support is great. I like notebooks because I have to be mobile with a family that's all over the house and I game a lot from my couch at night after my son goes to bed. So it's just easier to have a notebook. Desktops are so much cheaper and powerful if you have a dedicated desk to setup and play. Good Luck and thanks for the great questions! Come visit us if you have time at techinferno d()T com

@stevenxowens792 What is higher 900p or 1080p because you put medium/low for 1080p. does it go 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 900p then 1080p. Also how long does it take for the laptop to ship. and On the website it says 7 free days but then on the primary ship date it adds other days. DO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THOSE OTHER DAYS.

@SikGamerX - Depends on the game. See my other vids for more info on performance. The m14x will be able to play BF3 on high with an optmized config file (minus SSAO, AA and AF).

I'm gonna buy the g74sx in norway!!!! 11000 norwegian kroner!!!

Nobody and I mean nobody should buy a notebook to last 4 years. When buying a notebook, the life expectancy in my house is about a year to 1.5 years max. Sometimes I have purchased an alienware and then sold it 6 months later for a better one. If your buying a notebook to last 4 years, my advice would be to buy a PC which is easier to upgrade.

@Andirwan Oh, another thing.... should I upgrade the processor to an i7? Or will an i5 be fine because its turbo boost goes up to 2.9 ghz. Like I said, it's for gaming.
Report spam or abuse
i hope Alienware M14x R2 will have GTX 560M :)

@Andirwan You're right, I guess it's better to spend a couple hundred dlls more than regreting being a cheap a$% in the future

damn it, i buyed 3GB one! fuck! :(

it would play games like that if the m14x has the i5 processor?

but it doesnt mean that go for 4 gb i mean in future or after 4,5 years this 4 gb ram would be the minimum ram requirement for the games....

@coolboy9991 - sorry coolboy. I was talking about the game settings in reference to the resolution. The higher the resolution 720p < 900p < 1080p The lower the game settings you can play at. It takes more power to play at 1080p then it does at 720p. So at 1080p you should be able to put games at medium settings. At 900p medium high and at 720p max. I don't recall having to pay anything for credit orders until the notebook ships.

7 days from the time I ordered to the day I received it. But you can't use me as an example as I work for a company that has very large contracts with dell. However one of our members "gearsguy" got his in 7 days recently as well.

can this replace a gaming desktop? i think i will get a gaming pc but that looks nice so i may as well get a laptop whats your opinion since u own the machine?

Is there a big difference between the I7-2630 and the I5-2410 :o? Im going to be ordering it soon. :)

wow, for a second i thought homefront was mw2

@AtomicDonkeh - Not really, you can set the cpu priority on fraps to low (via taskmgr) and then it takes very little of the cpu cycle. It DOES take up a lot of resources when recording gameplay as you are heaving to write heavily to hard drive.

I wanted to ask if you know if this laptop will run BF3 at max settings. Also i wanted to know if there was any use of the audio upgrade for this laptop on their alienware website they have for $20?

I know this may be a stupid question, but my technology knowledge is poor. Can I play WoW in this computer with any of the 2 processors (i5 or i7) at the highest quality? Thank you.
Report spam or abuse
@aurnabr well im no techie but as it says abvove the 3gb card makes no difference (i have no idea myself). i7 2630 sounds good, not bad and not pricey (again from what ive heard), and the ram is ur choice depending on how much money u have and how much ur really gonna do on ur laptop, but if u have the money to spend on 8 GB then yes! hope that helps :D

@stevenxowens792 I mean, I don't really play the Battlefield series, the only games I would want to play would be AOE III, BioShock & BioShock 2 and Black Ops and maybe MW3 when it comes out.... Since the most demanding part of the game is the graphics processing, would an i5 processor really be that much worse than an i7 if the computers have the same GPU? (I'm really hoping I don't have to shell out an extra $100 :/ )

@Enmanuel248 - Battlefield Bad Company 2 (aka BFBC2)

Going out of context but i heard that Homefront wasn't good. That it was mixing Battlefield with CoD series. Just saying. I am not hating it, its just what I heard.

@SikGamerX for minecraft, it will be very good. minecraft doesnt take a lot of power to run on the "pretty" settings. in other words, you'll have perfect fps.

@sandmansamperson - Sandman - make sure witcher 2 is patched up to newest level. Also make sure your gpu is overclocked. Go into advanced graphics settings for the game. Disable ultra, Disable DOF, and Disable AA to start with and see if that helps. check us out at techinferno as well for more help. Good Luck and sorry witcher 2 is giving you a hard time.

its disgraceful how amazing the spec on this beast is. And for the price it shits on most other gaming laptops, im well getting one. Is it a good multimedia machine? The processor ranks highly but I want an all-round laptop that can handle anything ideally

@diggyputz 1. I think its expensive for a 14 inch notebook but this is my 4th alienware notebook and I like the quality and performance. 2. I would rate the notebook at 8 out of 10. -1 point for fan noise and -1 point for battery/sata 3 support (lack of). 3. I like it. I dont tell others what to buy. I would recommend it for anyone that needs a lite notebook with medium-high gaming requirements. This notebook is NOT designed to play all games on ultra. Medium-high level of detail.

@kookiesprinkles - been discussed many times already. We benched the 1.5 vs 3.0 video ram cards. No difference in FPS. You will be able to load up a higher amount of textures with the 3.0. That is all. Thanks for watching. StevenX
Report spam or abuse
@TURST67 @ Turst - 1. Fraps will limit how many FPS is displayed during recording. Look in your recording settings, it's either 30fps or 60fps. 2. Fraps impacts your system which will lower your FPS. It's recording video, uncompressed and writing to disk. I have a SSD and it still impacts FPS. Good Luck on your videos. Its lots of fun to make them. Best Wishes, StevenX

@skcopian - we have already ran benchmarks on the 1.5 vs 3.0 gb video card. No difference at all. The 10 point difference in 3dmark11 was due to the other person having a 2720qm processor at 3.0 ghz vs the 2630qm at 2.6ghz. Thanks, StevenX

After 35fps I don't see much of a noticeable difference in quality. I'm thinking about getting a macbook pro instead just because it's still useful for things outside of gaming, but can still get good fps if I decide to game too :| *flaming inc and idc*

Sheer ignorance/fanboy drivel. Earlier models of Alienware were Clevo made. Current ones are Flextronics/Compal. What makes a computer special is build quality and specs. Alienware is just a name and metrosexual cases. They don't even use top-quality TN panels, nor the vastly superior IPS panels. The "ferrari" is anything with a large IPS panel and good graphics card+cpu, the brand does not matter. That said, ASUS uses better screens than Dell usually, but still not IPS.

@ImLegend932 - Support is great. I have been Dell certified in the past for hardware replacement on servers, desktops and notebook. If i have an issue and want them to just send a part, they will over night it. If I want them to replace the part, I just ask that they dispatch a technician next day. I can't complain really at all about support. Each company usually has several levels of support. 1st level is always a challenge as their is a communication barrier (India or Malaysia)

@Bfheroesmaniac - What do you mean higher specs? BC2 has low, medium, high, then vsync, and hbao. I can play it with literally everything enabled and stay well above 40fps. If I run it at high with hbao disabled and vysnc disabled I stay above 65 fps. I run it at my laptops native resolution which is 1366x768. I dont know exactly what you are asking for? Best Wishes ,StevenX

@Sasukelegend5 3 gig of graphics is a reap-off better to just get the 1.5 g. The performance between the two cards is the almost the same. (i cant explain properly so think of it in this sense): say i have a computer with a 1ghz intel celeron processor and 4 gigs of ram and another with the same processor but 8 gigs of ram. they'll run the same because the processor sucks and actually pulls the ram down (figuratively speaking). same case here. So save yourself a hundred dollars.

@notverysuperdean - But when Im not having to hit record buttons for Fraps, regardless if it's BFBC2 or Homefront or BOPS, Im almost always positive. When it comes to actual team games like BFBC2 i worry less about my KDR and more about helping the team win.

@ucanttuchdis5678 - NO,.. DO NOT GET THE I5. I have told many people in many forums.. DO NOT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET THE I5. You will be angry beyond angry when BF3 comes out and you cant play it well. Witcher 2 already barely plays on I5s right now. Please dont get the i5.

@stevenxowens792 btw.. Do you think I pay much for the brand of alienware? Could you help me get another good laptop for gaming? :D

@Bfheroesmaniac - Notebook video cards can handle about 4AA max and 16AF max. They just aren't designed to run higher than that. Yes you can enable 4xAA and 16AF in BC2. It still runs at over 30fps. When Im running and gunning at max speed I dont enable AA or AF because I just don't notice it. Good Luck, StevenX

@Gabonus17 - I know some choose the i5 and please understand I am not trying to be rude. (not my intention) but games need the I7. Even if it takes saving another month it's worth waiting. Imagine one member with an I5 on crysis 2 extreme settings 15-25fps. Mine on Crysis 2 vanilla extreme 30-35fps. Overclocked 35-45fps. Add custom config file 40fps or higher.
