Gene Uk Band 1995 Haunted By You

I, I cross the road and I hide Just to avoid the times When you sat at my side So battered by the tide A wreck exposed at my door My eyes they cannot lie So get up from the floor For you, you've had your time Your chance has gone You're not so strong Your tongue, they cannot harm me now I cross the road and I hide Just to avoid the times When you sat at my side So battered by the tide Your chance has gone You're not so strong Your tongue, they cannot harm me now With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting Then on my tongue lies disgrace I'm still haunted by you Yes, you, you're in my way With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting From(incomprehensible)to the grave I've been haunted by you Yes, you're in my way With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting And on my tongue lies disgrace I'm still haunted by you Yes, you're in my way

I wish I was the sort who never got tired of regurgitating the same old (and frankly, never accurate) sounds-like-The Smiths jokes; I could keep myself quite occupied trolling all these Gene videos. As it is, I can only voice my amazement at how great this song is and how I quite enjoy the little details not properly represented in a four-piece live band setup. In "Olympian," it's the beautiful strings and tinkly piano accompaniment. In this one, it's the haunting metallic echoes lying behind bits of the chorus. This album never stops impressing me.

No, Khu NoPie, the Smiths called and wanted to know why they were never within 50 yards of being as good as Gene...

Great sound ! If you like Indie music and find underground artist, I suggest you to discover a new one by writing "Niko Laetailleurs" in the you tube search bar. Some good vibrations to share...

Fucking love these guys. Such a shame they weren't successful enough to keep going. We owe them. This is a proper British sound, with a lot of subtelty and depth, largely absent from some of their more successful counterparts.

Top Mank band....there have been many hidden gems.....Marion...Elbow....Puressence....Vini Reilly...John Cooper Clarke...James

One of my favourite albums of all time!

another "wannabe Smiths" brit pop band with beautiful sound though.. reminds me of my youth

Olympian is one of my favourite LPs all time too. Unfortunately, Gene always suffered from this comparison with The Smiths, which was very unfair as they had their own very british style too, but in another way. Brilliant melodies and lyrics (Olympian or Where Are They Now for instance) they played a sophisticated, refined music that deserved much more than being placed in league 2 of pop music

Although I love Oasis very much, I agree..some bands aren't appreciated enough. if there was justice in this world, Suede would make it to the US Market and Gene would achieve the same success as Blur :)

Aww, if only I could whisk myself back to 1995...for 3mins I almost was :) thanks for that, superb, from one the best 'under rated' bands of all time...happys days!! still haunted by you guys :)

I saw them live twice also. Once at the Honey Club, once at the Brighton Centre, East Wing. Fabulous band live. I used to see Martin Rossiter around Brighton all the time, usually in the Lewes Road Sainsburys pushing a pram!

i remember they got trashed by nme for being copying the smiths, At a time when oasis and blur were copying the beatles and pulp and suede were copying bowie. Shame because gene deserved better

Band I was in played support for them once in Berlin. We drank their wine, they lent me their spare amplifier since mine broke down minutes before the gig. Great guys, and they played a fantastic show. Always loved this song.

Its sad that ppl think that just because a new(er) band sounds like a legend band/musician, they iummediately label it as a "rip off". If thats the case, then every band that was inspired by the beatles are rip offs (since ppl use the word so loosely). They fail to see that its an homage. GENE is plain and simple a lovely band with unique ballads. Other bands that "happen" to sound like Morrisey are: Smoking Popes, Trash Can Sinatras -- these bands pay tribute to their predecessor.

@"Her fifteen years " is up there with anything by The Smiths probably the best song The Smiths never wrote
