Hello, My samsung LED tv has a similar problem. When I switch on the TV I can see no image just a blank screen appears but the sound is perfect. Is this related to capacitor or do I need to change the screen.

My TV went off while watching it turned it back on got no pictures but have sound could it be a fuse 70in plasma LG

Black screen on my 06`LG was caused by the noise filter where the power cord is plugged in. May want to look into this if you discover all your caps being flat (normal) on the power board.

top tip for easier capacitor removal - warm them and the pcb up first with a hairdryer - you can then use the soldering iron at lower temp and minimize potential damage to the pcb !!

I am grateful for the picture of the LG that I am seeing because it is exactly 47 inches that I am using.  The problem I am having with it is that, the screen got cracked at the right upper corner when something dropped on it.  Where can I get the screen and how much can I get it or where can I bring it for  fixing and the price.  Thanks.

Om my tv I changed mainboard and power supply power light comes on and stays on but the screen is black do you know what might be the prob.
Report spam or abuse
back light inverter probably. Shine a bright torch/flash light on the screen to check if there is anything on the LCD.

Is this something you would recommend someone doing with no experience? I have to replace a Cap cause my tv is taking 5 min to turn on but the tv guy wants at least $125 to do it.

Thank you so much.  Now I know what is wrong with my expensive Samsung.  There was a single loud "crack" sound and the screen was instantly black.  I have a temporary small TV, and when I have time on my hands, I will tackle the capacitors on my big Samsung.

Remove and Replace each capacitor One At A Time and Take Special Notice of The Polarity of Each Capacitor (the + and - signs on the cans). You really want to insert each new capacitor with the same polarity. These are Electrolytic Capacitors and they are polar just exactly like Batteries. If you insert the new capacitor backwards, expect to blow it up and damage more of the t.v. Very Important to maintain the correct polarity when inserting the new capacitor into the circuit board. You should Always NEVER open the set before unplugging it from the wall. And make sure to short the old capacitor on the board to discharge it. USE AN INSULATED WIRE. DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL CONNECTOR WIRES (the leads) OR THE DISCHARGING WIRE WHILE DOING SO. Capacitors store electricity, and the larger the capacitor, the higher the voltage (electricity) that it stores. TIP: When desoldering the old capacitor connections to the circuit board, it is much easier to use Desoldering Wick. You apply the wick between the hot soldering iron and the solder on the board. The wick soaks up the molten solder and leaves the capacitor leads clean and easy to remove. Then when soldering the new capacitor's leads to the board, do it as quickly and carefully as possible. Holding the soldering iron on the circuit board too long can destroy the connection point on the board. The copper etching can burn off.

Thanks for the video. I replaced 5 capacitors on my father's television following your instructions and it did the trick. My father was very pleased. The cost was about $6, including the solder. Very good of you to share your knowledge.

YOU DA MAN! Having zero experience with soldering and working on electronics myself, I followed your tutorial to fix my blown LG and it's all good now!

Thanks for the video share.  Awesome you fixed your own tv and saved all that $$$!

Good job, I have the lg du-42 exact same problem. Thanks for mentioning Radio Shack. I thought I was good to have to order online.

WHERE CAN I BUY THESE CAPACITORS FROM?  ANY TV STORE, ONLINE OR BOTH?  How much are they, what voltage, etc, for same sized TV?  Some reply please.

+Amy B Thank you for your late replay, but I just smashed open an old TV and disconnected old capacitors from a glass screen TV and fitted them into my LG HD TV and it's been working ever since lol.  5 years plus old as well, but working like it's still new .  I wonder how many people have thrown out their TVS because of a little capacitor thinking it was completely ruined.  Shame.

It'd be 1 pound in England anyway if it's 2 dollars over there.  Thanks again.

You the men bro...I got a Toshiba that just recently stoped working it wont turn on I checked the capasitors only (1) looks like that, but it isn't as bad PLUS I don't have the blinking light could it be something else

This wasn't whats caused the problems on mine, but this video was very helpful in letting me check that my caps were ok (they look fine to my untrained eye), glad you got yours working, I'll continue trying to figure out whats wrong with mine!
Report spam or abuse
i read something online about discharging bad capacitors as they can kill?? does this apply to these capacitors too?
Report spam or abuse
I've got a 37" very similar to yours and I feel that mine has suffered the same fate.  I am going to check it today and then order the necessary capacitors and soldering iron/solder if that is what it needs.  Thanks for the video and giving me hope that I can fix mine too.

Why does my tv screen go blank a few minutes after being turned on? Also, why when I push the power button on the set the power sometimes just tv display then goes blank again

Good video! Question: I see the capacitors bubbled out, but light does not blink nor turn on at all. Should i continue with changing the capacitors only, or may there be some fuses blown out? Thanks.

great!!! Thanks for thr info(",)

"Ancient" also sucks. you wanna collaborate and make a big sucky album together?
Report spam or abuse
When you replace the caps use good quality caps, preferably low ESR 105C caps. Radio Shack caps are not usually very good for this application, spend a little extra and buy them from someone like Mouser or Digikey.

My LG Tv has the same problem, but it turns on after about 15 - 30 min at times it takes hours lol, that is what has been keeping me from taking it apart. Did you find out the capacitors you needed just by taking it apart, taking them off and comparing them at the store? Did you obtain the specs somewhere?

Thank you so much for your video!! my LG 32lc2du started acting up and I consider throwing it out and buying a new tv, but after watching your video I took my tv apart and saw that one of the capacitors went bad, I went to radio shack and bought a soldering tool set ($10.99 +tax)went to skycraft parts & surplus, inc. Winterpark, FL and bought a capacitor for ($0.50 +tax) Now my tv is working like new! All for $12.18. THANK YOU :)

Thanks a lot. Also had this power light blin issue and tried this. Two caps were blown. I had some trouble removeing the case but the switiching caps itself was easy. After 20min it works again. Thanks again for this video!

Hey what power soldering iron did you need to use? I was gonna get a 25W one but read around and think that might not be hot enough to remove the solder. Might get a 40W version instead but that will cost a bit extra ($19 vs $12 AUD).

Hey man, thanks so much for posting this. A buddy of mine gave me his old 42" LG because he said it took about an hour to warm up and turn on. When I got it, I couldn't get it to turn on at all. I watched this vid, went out to my local electronics shop. For those of you asking I just googled electronic components in my city. Long story short, it fired up right away, and is working flawlessly. Thanks for the video, greatly appreciated!!
