that's so weird the same exact thing happened to me last semester, after winter break i had gotten sick with mono and so I had to stay home for 3 weeks and my anxiety was so bad after I'd gotten better that I literally could not go into school without having panic attacks or physically hurting myself

This really means a lot to me. I'm Bipolar and I've been struggling with it since I was 5

This is totally surreal. I watch your baby names videos, which I love, by the way. I just searched 'experiences in the psych ward' and your face showed up. I didn't realize you had a second channel. I'm in the process of being diagnosed with Bipolar, and considering hospitalization. I have generalized anxiety, trichotillomania, and a non specific eating disording. I can't believe that someone I 'know' dealt with or is dealing with almost the same thing. Wow.

Im glad you made this video cause ppl like you remind me that im not the only one who is different.. sometimes it feels like that when your just always at home dont wanna go out.. u see that everyone is moving forward in life except you. your family & everyone else doesnt understand you. you cant keep social relationships alive & you sometimes have to blame yourself cause you dont wanna blame everything on BP. Your story reminds me of Demi Lovatos much btw ur really strong :)

I have that stuff . it sucks. I was put on paxil in 2002 and messed me up , got arrested wasn't thinking well at all ! I'm scared of any med except for my heart meds. so yeah I deal with my up and downs and try to slow down with my racing anxiety thoughts and keep busy with my guitar truck and all that stuff. oh yeah I can't even finish my music project at all ! so my personal music cd is gonna have to wait . grrr

Hi Amelia. Great video. Stay strong. I am not bipolar but I've recently learned that someone I used to work with is. She's a beautiful person and she's dealing with her issues. I'm doing the best I can to educate myself on the subject matter. The courage of people such as yourself to talk about these issues goes a long way in helping the rest of us to understand what some of our friends are going through. God bless.

@rhapsody8212 I don't really know if it's something a person is born with, but more and more children are getting diagnosed with it. Although it usually doesn't start till late teens. Mine started early. For me hypo manic episodes last up to several months.

Congratulations people! Most people don't want to be most people. But they can't escape it.Fortunately there's multiple roads to Rome, so if they can't be most people, all people must be all people, ipso facto, pills, and loads of them. Here's a thought:happy people are usually mediocre people.Happyness is an aneshtethic, of the most powerfull kind, a hipnotic(just look at married people, how they get fat lazy, and get into a rut).Be cool, be different, be unique, be rare, be EXPENSIVE!

It sounds like it could be bipolar disorder. But I'm not a psychiatrist so I can't diagnose you. But I would definitely seek help from a medical professional. Good luck!

(part 2) you go in your recovery, the more you will find ways that work for you to avoid panic attacks. Also, don't smoke weed. I have no idea if you do or not, but it can cause some serious panic attacks in people. (If you don't smoke it, then please don't take offence, just trying to cover all the bases) Caffeine also doesn't help. I haven't had a full on panic attack in over a year, so I think just getting to know what works for you is the biggest part.
Report spam or abuse
If that works for you, great. I don't think taking vitamins is really going to help me all that much :P

You are so brave, im suffering with severe panic attacks since i was 14y old. My bilogical father suffers from bipolar and this video help me understand alot. So thank you! Also, how do you handle you panic attacks? At my worst My heart was beting fast as a rabbit and i got rushed to the hospital, i find that the hardest thing is to brake the circle. Do you have any tips?

A good way I've found of dealing with my personal anxiety is closing my eyes and breathing really deeply. I don't know, but it works really well for me.

@fahkyooh Thank you for your opinion. You can't just tell a bipolar person to change the way they think, it doesn't work. Believe me. I'm very into natural things. I meditate up to an hour a day, I do try and focus on the positive. I use clinically proven brain wave therapy as part of my meditation. I eat extremely healthy. I limit red meat, dairy and artificial flavour and colour. I do Yoga. I haven't had alcohol in 4 years, or drugs. I haven't smoked in 2 years. I'm very aware of my body and

Powerful story Amelia! Keep fighting Stigma! I think you would be a powerful and relate-able speaker at High Schools & Colleges as well! As a person w/ Bipolar myself, I am really proud and am cheering for you! Like you, I have dealt with Mania, Depression severe Anxiety & Panic Attacks,. I have been on every anti depressant known to man, and have been stable for many years now on Lamotrigine 200mg mood stabilizer. Remember we are SURVIVORS & thriving.. not victims.. I've been completely stable since March, but it was a while before I found that balance. I actually have been on the same meds for over a year but it took some extra group counselling to get me stable. But my meds are half the equation too. Thanks for the recommendation though. I haven't heard much about off-label drugs. I'm on Epival and Serequil, as well as Effexor for anxiety and Clonazepam. It's finally the right balance. I'm so glad that you are stable :)

Wow. I haven't met anyone who has the same thing as me. But I learned what it was when I saw a note up in my doctors office years later for a support group for people who with it. I was so shocked. But I've never met someone who has experienced it. I had to wear bandanas or wear my hair up for at least a year. I think it should have been such a warning bell that there wasn't something right with me. I just wish someone could have seen the warning signs.

Jesus is the greatest support in my life. Even without any of my other supports I would be able to live as long as I had my faith. I hope that one day I can be like you and live without medication. But right now it just wouldn't be possible.

Everyone is different in terms of how they respond to medicine. I am currently on a very low dose of Effexor to keep the anxiety and depression at bay, then I'm on Seroquel, Clonazepam (which I will hopefully be going off of soon) and Divalproex. But do what your doctor tells you in regards to meds. DO NOT go off any meds without a doctor's approval! Good luck <3

@everythingamelia Bipolar disorder is pretty much accepted now as being based in genes, so in other words you are born with it. That makes total sense for me, as I have felt "strange" since as far back as I can remember. It kind of sits dormant until something triggers it. Check the first parts of this video: Professor Peter Schofield: The Genetics of Bipolar Disorder at ANU

@revamped831 accept help and treatment and is following a treatment plan then it might not really have any effect on the relationship at all. People with Bipolar are lucky that they can live almost perfectly normal lives if they are willing to get help. I think if you get to know the person you will be able to judge if they are in a place where they can handle a relationship or not. Hope this helps!

@fahkyooh Oh I totally know that it can cause liver damage. For right now medications are what is keeping me sane.. but I can't imagine myself being on medications for the rest of my life.. or at least not this many. I really do understand where you're coming from. But if I have to be on medications for the majority of my life.. I would rather be on them and be a functioning, happy person, then not be on them and be miserable. But I do know the potential consequences of long term medication use.
Report spam or abuse
Well some people do eventually go off their medication and manage to lead normal lives without it. But most people need to be treated and be medicated for it, for their entire lives. One book I have talks about a study done that concluded 'Up to one-third of patients actually get better and show no further signs of the disorder. Another third are treated and can live reasonable and functional lives. And the remaining third experience continued symptoms with a fair degree of social impairment'

Yes I am. I'm on 4 different meds. And for me the biggest side effects (the worst ones) are loss of creativity (BUT IT COMES BACK AFTER A WHILE!) And increase in weight. But both of those things can be managed and dealt with.

Hi Amelia, I pretty much suffer from the exact same thing you do. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well as an anxiety disorder couple of years back. I know exactly how you feel. I am currently seeing a BHOST Clinic Dr. at the VA Hosp, and I think my illness is well under control now. I think you're doing a great job posting these videos, and letting the general public know about this decease. By the way, I think you look GORGEOUS! Take care, and keep the good work. ;)

When I was a kid I had the same compulsion to pull out my own hair. When I finally got to stop doing this, I started to poke or scratch my scalp with my fingernails (I still have some scars on my scalp). I didn't know that was any sort of illness until now, I just thought it was some anxiety symptom.

Thanks for posting this. I experienced my first psychotic episode in August 2012. I went into a full blow psychosis and stayed in a hospital for five days. It was the first time any doctor had ever said the words "bipolar" to me. I am undiagnosed bipolar type 2 and taking it day by day. Your videos are a great resource for anyone dealing with the same thing!

I don't want to be in a relationship with someone who is bipolar. For several reasons. 1. Most people I meet who are bipolar are not as far along in their recovery as me. I don't mean to brag, or sound stuck up, but I have been clean and sober for more than 5 years, and I am very stable with my illness. I need to be with someone who is stable and can be strong for me when I am not. 2. If I were to have children with someone else who has mental illness, their chance of being mentally ill (cont)
