Weezer needs more recognition, who agrees?
Report spam or abuse
+Kunt Destroyer Actually, I took it as more of...an apology. Some of the songs were back to the original style, but I think that song was a "goodbye" to it, almost. At least for that album. Like, a "Sorry, we'll go back to the shack one more time, but this album will be different" ya know?

the other day, m friend asked me if i knew who "The Weezers" were.....we arent friends anymore.

+DillPickleTV this song is now allowed to drink...LETS PARTY WITH WEEZER!
Report spam or abuse
It always blows my mind when rich rock stars are alcoholics.....like there are dozens of better drugs to kill yourself with.....more pleasurable, less side effects, more mind numbing, sometimes many of these.....whatever you're going for.
Report spam or abuse
+YOGSCAST Seagull I read somewhere that he was petrified of alcohol and didn't even touch it until age 21, but now after researching it, it's hard to tell. But the song is more aimed at he was worried for his family because there had been alcohol abuse in it before. The line you mentioned, "somebodies Heine is crowding my icebox" talks about how one time he opened the fridge and found his step dad's beer, and thought that he would leave his mom again because he was drinking, so he has to just close his eyes.. the next line talks about how he got close to his brother and that he suspected his dad was drinking behind his back. "Something is bubbling behind my back." The bridge talks about how his old dad Stephen "This bottle of Stepehen's," cleaned up and became a priest and he loved that.  You can really think about it in either perspective and it still makes sense.

+Owen Frankel Aye.  Weezer isn't close to my favored genres but I was drawn in my some brilliant writing talent.  I like that the song is post modernist enough to make it feel like it an impression of someone elses thoughts or memory but its concrete enough to give you a solid impression.  Still this could quite reasonably and even intelligently go a few ways.  Is the Heine crowding his icebox box because he is afraid of it and wants someone to take it? Or is telling himself that drink has been there too long while desperately avoiding confronting the realization that he is an alcoholic. Is he drowning in his own flood from his own alcoholism or simply still moping about his dad's bullshit half a lifetime later? To me the song sounded far more powerful when it combined a fear-filled damage past involving alcohol use by your father figures with trying to suppress the realization that he has ended up the exact same way....none of these were grounded in knowledge about the band just how the lyrics seemed to me.

It pains me when I have to sit next to and listen to kids in my classes singing and rapping along to their new top 40 shit brick music.  High school, man.  Some people have great tastes in music and others are just... egh.

+mk irwin im only in seventh grade and all these kids obsessing over "whip and neigh neigh" and i still dont know what it is. everybody was outside during gym and we had free time and they were all listening to 1D and reanna and crap, and i jump up onto the picnic table and start singing this and the only one who doesnt stare at me is my boyfriend who starts singing too but everyone else just stares at me and calls me crazy. best moment of my life.

I went to high school listening to great music (94-98). It was one hit after another. Of course, took it all for granted. Didn't realize suck was right around the corner. Now you have what, 3 defining songs maybe in a year? In the 80's and 90's you had many great songs in a year and in different genres too. In the 80's you had old pop stars, rock stars, love songs, slow songs. Now, it's just the young and the beautiful peddling mostly shit. Same damn thing with the movies. It just sucks today. That is all.
Report spam or abuse
+colkurtz88 DUUUUUDE, I feel ya on that one... couldn't have put it better myself... finished high school in 2000... the music industry owned by giant corporations (Sony Music, Warner Music, Universal, EMI) turned albums into a formula 2 hits per album... 10 to 12 tracks of utter and complete filler bullshit for your ears... and that guaranteed $18 per CD, and lots of CDs to make since a band with 2 hits could put out an album... and a band with 10 hits could put out 5 albums...

Capos are for the weak, man. Also after playing guitar for awhile, you can pretty much hear what tuning a guitar is in. Weezer and Green Day have ALOT of half-step stuff. Also AC/DC doesn't play half-step. They've had some songs in F though

This was one of my top 5 CD's of the 90's. But however much I tried to like their other CD's, I found them just horrible.

Does the sound of the guitar only sound in the right ear cup in the beginning for anybody else?
Report spam or abuse
Yes lol that's because it's supposed too. They panned it to the right and panned the more reggae riff to the left so you can hear both equally as well. It's a great technique when layering different guitar riffs

Loved the 90's music! Really, everything from the 50's through about 2000, was great stuff. Then, after about 2000, the music turned to junk in a major way! Of course with the exception of a few hits here and there.
Report spam or abuse
Couldn't agree more, but I do enjoy the punk and alternative music from the early 2000s, such as Green Day. After the music industry moved on from that everything turned to shit.

+Jequisha Just want to point out to these folks that you're right. The syncopated chords played on the top 3 strings during the verse certainly have a reggae vibe. Listen to the verse of "Beautiful Disaster" by 311; same kind of thing going on.

Man, the 90's were shit. The early 80's new wave was awesome, thought it would last forever. Then 1989 comes and all these lame ass grudge bands start getting popular. Nirvana was fucking garbage they played on the radio non stop. Everybody started wearing flannel and shit got dumb. Now hipsters are bringing the 80's back but with 90's shit mixed in and it's all garbage.

You weren't even conscious of popular culture when Nirvana was around. Most of the idiot that like Nirvana were born in '91 and are still living on their parents money.
