but the "I" is full of alluring pleasures that are very hard to give up, the I is an addiction by itself a bundle of habits that we have become so reliant on... In that case what can we do.. I am sure of one thing in my life that even if i take anyone to the state of ego less bliss that original innocence we felt as a baby.. Even if you see the sepration of thought and self, i am sure u will come back to being an ego..! We r not ready, most of us will never be..

Please define what you mean by self. To get rid of thoughts is not mentioned in the trailer "Non-Duality. Life as it is". This point can be addressed when your definition of self is received.

The state where there is no misery is the opposite of misery.

The 'who' and 'you' referred to is the individual or the ego. Read the article 'what does rethink mean?' to help you understand. See website acadun

I argue that there is no separation between thought and self. It requires thought to know you are the self. The entire concept of self is derived from thought. The self and the thought are the same thing, the same process. That's why there is no need to get rid of thoughts.

My comment was in reference to KarthinkSoun's last few lines in his comment, that that it's possible to see the separation between self and thought. By self I assume he is referring to the true Self or Awareness/Consciousness or whatever you want to call it. My argument is that it takes thought to know there is a Self. Without thought the idea of Self wouldn't exist. The Self is just an idea, a concept.

You know when you are happy, calm etc which is the opposite of misery. You know when you are in misery and both are thoughts, which are not under the control of man. This is what the movie is pointing to, that the protagonist is life and not man

Abbot and Costello could have had a field day with nonduality. "Who's on first?" "Who is the who to which you refer?" "And who is the 'you' to which 'you' refer?" And so on, ad infinitum.

@KarthikSoun If you see the separation between thought and Self you will be a witnesser and not an ego

This is a lot of complicated ideas put together but on the whole it is not convincing and doesn't really have a big picture.

Please inform your understanding of self. That which is known appears to exist, but is the appearance of existence real or illusory?. Is the idea of the self and anything that appears to exist made by the ego or the self?

The voice-over says 'man is in misery because....' This is creating the very misery itself by assuming there is a state where there is no misery. Rubbish all of it.

You cannot tell yourself that you are in a state of the opposite of misery and you can't tell yourself you are in a state of misery they are simply thoughts.

In Oct. 2010 I had the opportunity to view this amazing movie by Dr. Shankar. He was visiting LA & after playing the aprox. 30 min. film we all sat in stunned silence because it seemed to do the impossible... show how we are not/cannot be the doer of our thoughts, feelings or actions. This trailer doesn't do the film justice, as one segment ties into the next, so you kind of have to see the whole thing where by the end it all makes sense. It will be out June 2011. Much Love, Michael Jeffreys
