I've just been watching the 1980 P&P and have to say that I still prefer the 1995 version, Jennifer Ehle is definitely the best Elizabeth Bennett and portrays her character so well.

I only "discovered" this series about 3 years ago. So far seen it about 4 times and read the novel twice. Very disappointed that I was so obsessed with "Braveheart" back in 1995 and never knew this series even existed!!

I love Netherfield House in this version, that home would suit me lovely.

where is episode 1 4/6? I cant seem to find it anywhere :(

But in Episode 3 Darcy visits Lizzy at Hunsford and stays for an awkward chat despite being told by Lizzy that she is on her own. He returns the next day to propose.

Who is the woman at 6:51, the one with brown or rather black hair? In which way is she related to Mr. Darcy? She isn't his sister, is she?
Report spam or abuse
I only have to see the series for my pride and prejudice exam in English Literature :) Lucky me :P Hope you did well!

It's funny the way Caroline is trying to pick away at Darcy's admiration for Elizabeth when she says " I'm afeaid, Mr Darcy, that this escapade may have affected your admiration for her fine eyes" and then Darcy says the opposite thing from which she expected This version is cast so well!!!

LOL @"Someone needs to check for an Adam's apple there."

it's absolutely ridiculous that this movie or any should be blocked. If I buy a movie and invite 20 people to come watch it,do those people have to pay the studio to watch?Maybe I send it home With 1person who invites 20of their friends to watch,do they all have to pay? No.Maybe I just pass it around freely for anyone to watch and loan to anyone else. everyone would watch it for free.In my opinion no one else is profiting from this.Studios need to change with the times and we all should complain

The best adaptation on pride and prejudice

@aria1232 The book is a character development novel where both main characters experience personal growth. Elizabeth Bennet isn't a perfect, wise young lady from the very beginning. She is prejudiced and very much convinced of herself and her judgement. The sensible Charlotte Lucas tries to prevent her from teasing Darcy - and she goes and teases Darcy. - Passion and high spirits. The main difference to Lydia is that Lizzy is clever, not a fool.

wow, lizzy here is normal weight.... on the other movie, keira is SO skinny

Mr Darcy hardly ever sits down. His clothes must be very tight making it hard for him to breathe when seated. Well I maybe wrong but why is he always standing???

Caroline: I'm afraid, Mr. Darcy, that this escapade may have affected your admiration for her fine eyes... Darcy: Not at all--they were brightened by the excercise. Me: OOH, BUUUUUUURN.

HAH 2:10 there's so much attitude in that curtsey lizzie

bentlys sisters look like men XD

At this point in the story, Lizzy is still very much hostile towards Darcy owing to his slighting her at that ball - he refused her company for the dance - so I doubt she'd be inclined to giving him company for anything.

Can somebody tell me what is this scene about? Something about accomplished woman, and this Mr Darcy wanting something more substantial? Uhh yeah I didn't get it, lol. This is my first time coming upon pride and prejudice.

@lapagan01 Her father doesn't enjoy her company because she is mature, but because she is clever, lively and quick-witted. For the same reasons and for her arch manners Darcy feels attracted to her. I don't want to imply that Elizabeth Bennet is irresponsible, but Jennifer Ehle's portrayal was too matronly, it lacked high spirits.

Try to turn on the CC with the 'transcribed audio'. It's hilarious how off base they are with it. Thumbs up this if you tried it : ) The best one is at 6:52

The darker-haired of Bingley's sister had me thinking, "Someone needs to check for an Adam's apple there." She looks a bit like a drag queen.

mrs bennet voice is like a monthy python character... like brians mother in life of brian.....

Elizabeth is my favorite character EVER. love her character.
Report spam or abuse
why was Lizzie so deturmined to go on foot to see her sister and not on horseback at least?? Was it to defy the social laws and expectations??
Report spam or abuse
Quick thinking from Miss Bingley, she instructed Foskett to get help for Jane, good woman.

This is just infuriating! What is the problem that Youtube cannot provide all the versions of the 1995 Pride and the Prejudice instead of hopping around and slipping it that awful latr version. Looks like we will just have to go somewhere else.

It's funny the way Caroline is trying to pick away at Darcy's admiration for Elizabeth when she says " I'm afeaid, Mr Darcy, that this escapade may have affected your admiration for her fine eyes" and then Darcy says the opposite thing from which she expected and she's just left there smiling... This version is cast so well!!!

I love the movie with colin firth and elizabeth

I somehow love this elizabeth bennet too...nice character...

the actress who plays caroline is really good! she makes me dislike her character as much as I did in the book.

@bleyendfaith it is not ridiculous. Movies cost a lot of money. lots of effort goes into them. lots of planing. And it is the studios choice whether they want you to be able to watch it for free over the internet or not. TV productions are financed through the advertisement and DVD sells you watch during commercial breaks. And if the BBC has no contract with youtube, why should youtube be allowed to make money out of the BBCs property. the studio has loss. who buys dvds if they can watch online?

Oh I love this series, but I wish they had included more of Darcy's interludes with Elizabeth that show him trying to start conversations with her.

"Is she taller than me". Well for someone so rich and upper class she does not have very good grammar.

I just watched the 1980 version, and it was so awful, seeing this is like a breath of fresh air.

dirt or no dirt, there is nothing like a brisk walk in the English countryside.
Report spam or abuse
im sorry but none of these actresses are pretty...i love the 1980's version much more.. in that one Jane is the most pretty sister and Elizabeth is much more of a free spirit because this Elizabeth is too flirty and obvious towards Mr.Darcy and obviously Mr. Darcy is much more handsome in the 1980's version.....this is an okay movie, but not the best representation

Mrs. Bennett...the original golddigger. hahaha

Knightly brings a chemistry to the screen that the Elizabeth in this version cannot. I find this not to my liking at all.

@menthemidori Thank you. Now I understand better. But Caroline likes Mr. Darcy a lot, right?

Report spam or abuse
I cannot stand the Bingley sisters! Grrrr
Report spam or abuse
I always think "oh.. Elizabeth isn't as good looking as Darcy" at the beginning, but she becomes more and more beautiful as I watch. Her face is just radiant. Maybe this is what people call charm.

Uh, Oh, looks like these videos are being removed...

I love Darcy's change of countenance and welcoming gestures when he decides to be so kind as take her to Jane

Is it just me or the actress that plays Mrs Bennett is overacting a little?

Colin Firth IS Mr. Darcy!! He's able to get across all of his pride, reserve, and other emotions just through his eyes and body language! I'm in love!!

@aria1232 Please don't be too severe with me, if I don't always find the most appropriate words! ;-) I am not a native speaker. However, I thought that this playful disposition, as you call it, was better conveyed by Keira Knightley than by Jennifer Ehle.

who's the woman with the black hair? she's pissin me off
Report spam or abuse
i think what makes this version so beautiful is the littlest moments.. like when - caroline talks on and darcy carries on what he's doing and lizzie says one thing and he's turned his whole body in her direction and just STARES at her - or when caroline tries to fault lizzie and darcy compliments her <<3 ahhhhhhhh i could continue watching it forever :)

Jane looks much prettier with her hair down, I think.

The mother is my favorite in Pride and Prejucide :)
Report spam or abuse
I just love Darcy's "On foot?" and Elizabeth's expression just after that. It's almost as if she wants to say: "No I flew here! Are you stupid or what?"
Report spam or abuse
You're forgetting that a man and a woman who are not family and not married are not allowed to be alone together in that era.
Report spam or abuse
This Lizzie is a lot more attractive than Keira Knightley. She actually has the body of a woman instead of a 12 year old boy. :)
Report spam or abuse
unless to make it real they eat well, not this othr versions when do they eat a little? ok but dont tell me anything it just my opinion

Jane Benett seems to have Mona Lisa's smile.

There isn't much dialogue in Austen's novel, the screenwriters had to make up a lot.

@thatsvy bahahaha thats flippin funny dude! And yes Colin and Crispin (bingley) are both FIIIINE men
Report spam or abuse
Boy, this mother! Sure, throw her girls, by themselves and teens, at soldiers! Yes, mothers should teach their girls to run after men. It works so well. / And that one sister sure got a prize of a man from their circle of society. He's a sot. Could he get more food on his plate? And he doesn't stand when Lizzy comes in. These are the beautiful people? Caroline's problem is that she doesn't know when to shut up. She thinks she knows Darcy. Her one brain cell doesn't stretch that far.

the word mischievous goes out to the sisters on Darcy side ^ ^ in this version, Mr. Darcy seems to have more power and authority than in the newer version

I love this movie! I enjoy the books more!

I can't watch this scene after the comment of the producer: 'and to his surprise he find he has a erection'.... xD
Report spam or abuse
@trw1501 Ooh I see! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that to me. It makes sense. Oh but I do got a question (if you or anyone could answer....) later on, Lizzy visits Darcy and his sister. The bingly sisters seem to make a comment that, i guess, seems insulting? Lizzie just walks back to Georgina, and says something about "not turning the page for her". Something like that, what was that about?
