Tom Cruise chews out Matt Lauer on LIVE TV

by David Vogler • 4,469,962 views

Tom gets into an argument with the Today Show's Matt Lauer. Tom is arrogant and gets rattled when Lauer won't kiss his ass. These Scientology nuts are out of their damn minds.

Comment failed to post.
He's not wrong though. Tom Cruise actually makes sense in with what he's saying.

Well said Tom, drugs only mask the problem.

Tom Cruise, ladies and gentlemen.... the greatest psychiatrist of all time.. I mean, he read a book about it, what else do you need. Because that's how you become a psychiatrist... you read a book and then boom, you become an authority.

Tom's right on this one. All he's saying is that there are alternative cures to serious issues like depression; that come without the severe and debilitating side effects that the powerful psychotropic drugs induce.  He's simply stating that there is a way to CURE those illnesses, not just TREAT them and that it can be done cost effectively.  Furthermore he's getting at the end result, a higher quality of life.  A higher quality of life in this case is feeling great, upbeat and energetic without the need for expensive and dangerous drugs.  What Tom is advocating is safer, more effective, and less costly.  It seems obvious that if a person is suffering from depression they should at least give Tom's way a try FIRST.  Because it probably will work them and save them the expense and risk associated with addictive drugs.   Call him whatever you want, even crazy people get things right once in a while.

Pseudo Scientology?

Please tell me what vitamin can cure schizophrenia? There is room for medication in treatment as well as holistic approaches.  It is not as black and white as he has been fooled into thinking.  Many years working in psyc hospitals has shown me that some things cannot be treated any other way.  It is true that drugs are over prescribed and that's because it is cheaper and easier than behavior mod and cognitive beh methods.

The only reason Scientologists hate psychiatry is because it is a threat to their recruiting/getting as many people as possible to rip off with their own pseudo psychology "programs." The more people try and get help from professionals and improve their lives, the less lost people there are desperately looking for something to help them.

So much Logic Fallacy in Tom's arguments. Just answer the damn question: If it helped her isn't that enough? No apparently not. It's got to be his way, or no way.

Get the net. Hes right about knowing what your talking about. The problem is, he doesnt. You need to look at things objectively not through the filter of some bullshit pseudo religion. There are people with chemical imbalances in their bodies and brains. That is a scientific fact beyond dispute. Not many of them, can be cured by simply living right.

First up, he is an actor - not a scientist or Doctor! Secondly, I can actually see a little bit of sense of in what he says, but why does he have to be such a dick in the way he says it, no no - an obnoxious dick!! Why do actors seem to think they are better than most!

As much as I hate his "religion" he does have a point about those drugs.

Something is wrong with him...his eyes are heavy..he looks and body feels very angry besides this interview.. Idk he seems possessed.. He in sciencetology they cray and he sold his soul..so.

Drugs only mask the problem & if proscribed by a doctor, said doctor needs to live with this person till the cure is effective. They don't fully know the makeup of this person or what changes this person needs to work out for them self. So this situation is better solved without drugs.

Matt Laurer using psychology against Tom Cruise here. Tom is obviously correct in his reasoning, and Lauer is using deceptive tactics to try and twist words and concepts. This is just pro pharmaceuticals propaganda by the msm.

Nothing wrong with ADHD, its a genius trait. If your kid has trouble paying attention or completing tasks that are being set, then good on him/her. Its called boredom. Just keep moving on through different activities until the kid finds an interest. There really is no need to drug the little terror until it becomes zombie-like because you want it to do something specific. Kids aren't robots, they're individual growing people, relax it will find its own topics of interest, even if its smashing things up to how things function.. relax.

"What you're saying, Tom, is that you want people to do well, but you want them to do well by taking the road that you approve of, as apposed to a road that may work for them." "No. No I'm not." "Well, if anti-depressants work for Brooke Shields, why isn't that okay?" "I disagree with it." That logic lol
Report spam or abuse
This is so old and I don't like Lauer but I give him credit for standing up to Cruise.  I tend to agree with Tom on some issues, psych meds are, for the most part, avoidable, albeit there is no hard fast rule, sometimes people do need them.  However, he comes across as being a huge blowhard here, arrogant, narcissistic and rude.  That said, it would do Tom a power of good to spend a week in a psychiatric ward.

Are any of you really agreeing with a bunch of doctors and big pharma who are literally profiting off of us taking pills and "expert diagnosis" which is in their best interest to keep us hooked and coming back for obvious reasons?  UH Here's your sign.

Regardless of what this fight is actually about, you should watch it for the fact of seeing how one sided some people can be during arguments. Cruise won't give up ANY room to Matt, who I don't even like but is being quite fair and reasonable here. He's willing to have a discussion, but Tom will ONLY have it his way or he'll mock you. I just had a similar discussion with a friend about a completely different topic, but these were exactly his mannerisms. Tell you you don't understand, provide examples of how they have experienced more than you, and then laugh blatantly in your face when you say "but what about this". My friend, and Tom here, are the epitome of an arrogant arguer where its their way or the highway, as opposed to someone like myself and Matt Lauer, who are willing to concede some things about our point if the other person would just listen to ours. Its not worth discussing with these people cause you'll go around in circles, like this interview does, because one of the people is so blinded that you can't have a fair give and take.
Report spam or abuse
It blows my mind how people can still think this way in 2015.  These generally safe, FDA approved medications, have the ability to alleviate debilitating depression, anxiety, ADD, etc...  The drugs enable some people to not just live a normal life, but to ENJOY life...to enjoy things that are meant to be enjoyed...to be happy.  For a person encumbered by a complex mental illness, just "taking vitamins" and "using natural remedies" would be akin to fighting a huge forest fire with a fucking garden hose.  What's best for you may not be what's best for someone else.  It's nuts how an intelligent, talented individual can be so closed-minded and ignorant.

And then he went away.... Scientology & Ritalin = Brook Shields...! Brook Shields + a pizza pie = Mel Gibson... You see? Anti-psychotic drugs are terrible for your health and doesn't solve the root of your troubles, just turns you into a mindless robot. Have shit ton of family and friends taking all drugs from anti-deppresants to anxiety medication. Remedy more than a solution really. Get to the root of what's troubling oneself, then the problem will be solved AND you'll have your original personality AND be happy. One can't be happy taking none of that bullshit.

Interesting point of view - we have a whole generation of kids who suffer from malnutrition for a variety of reasons, and are then put on drugs like ridelin (spelling I know) - does anyone really know what these types of drugs are doing to our kids?  It's a sickness in our so called "medical" community.

Tom does not know what he is talking about....There is a such thing as a chemical imbalance. And people who suffer from severe mental health issues need medication in order to get over a psychotic break or a major depressive episodes etc. Working out and eating well are a small part, but wont help people to the fullest. And yes I'm a mental health professional. I seen this first hand, so do the foot work before you open you pie hole.

Turns out Tom Cruise is correct. Most recent research shows that the chemical imbalance theory is incorrect. Physicians telling patients about the "chemical imbalance" theory is just a cover because we really don't understand why or how the drugs work. I'm in pharmacology III and I've had to learn about these drugs, and it's true. Psychiatrists really don't understand how the majority of psych drugs work. We have theorized mechanism of actions, but we are truly unsure about all of it. Matt IS being glib, and Matt Lauer DOESN't know what ritalin is, or how it works! Tom is the man, and he doesn't care if you think he's a loony toon, and that makes him even more cool

I get what he's saying. He's saying pills don't solve an issue, they just mask a current one. Which remains there even after the pill subsides. In a way, it's like alcohol, for that night you stop worrying about your problems and responsibilities, but when you wake up in the morning you realize nothings changed. He's saying get to the root of the issue, instead of covering it up with drugs that doesn't solve the issue, it just masks it to a later time.

He actually makes sense in that he addresses the problem of dosage. Because these diseases aren't very well understood on a biological level, someone could be taking too much adderal, for example, which is bad for them. What's worse is that they could just be addressing a symptom of a greater problem.

Well, he's not wrong on this one.
Report spam or abuse
he's saying that he refuses to allow anyone to USE the fact that someone who does a bunch of things INCLUDING anti-depressants cannot be put forward that the anti-depressants are thing the thing that helped when it could have been the other things, and that because of the OVERWHELMING research into the effects of these drugs compared to the LACK of proof that they do anything but mostly harm, and those who claim to have been helped have no medical proof of either the "Diagnosis" (chemical imbalance) or the afterwards correction of said "Imbalance" therefore , comparing the evidence AGAINST and the lack of evidence FOR, coupled with the HISTORY of the pharmaceutical industry and their perversion of the psychiatric profession to peddle their drugs one must stand up and STOP and research and investigate and search for a better way as opposed to advocating these drugs.(Take a trip through all the crime shows on youtube, you'll hear one phrase more often than ANY OTHER PHRASE in all the stories combined..."They were on anti-depressants".) Forget Tom and Scientology, just research this one issue for yourself. Regardless of whatever you think of him or that religion....on this issue he (And they) are 100% correct.

scientology for you. sorry tom you cannot say anti depressant mask depression, its all about finding a balance....it can and does help. and probably helped to save my life. after all isnt scientology just another version of faith....if that isnt a form of your own masking what is?

I ain't going into detail and I can justify whatever is fired at me but Tom cruise is spot on in what he's saying! End of story
Report spam or abuse
Lauer is completely ignorant.  Tom Cruise is absolutely, 100% correct.  The theory that depression is caused by a "chemical imbalance" in the brain is complete bullshit. There is no way to detect or quantify neurotransmitter levels in the human brain, and in any case there is no way to define what a "normal" neurotransmitter balance is.  The whole idea was fabricated as a means to push and sell SSRI drugs for profit.  Antidepressant drugs (SSRIs) are the greatest scam ever foisted on humanity.  They are a ticking time bomb.  And psychiatry doesn't even rise to the level of pseudo science... it is quackery, with no scientific basis whatsoever.  Psychiatrists have become little more than dope pushers and front men for the criminal pharmaceutical industry.

When you watch Tom Cruise being interviewed, as in this video and as in other interview videos, you see a very disturbed man. Tom's intimidating, arrogant, piercing gaze, his defensiveness, his "I am smarter and more educated than you" approach, his anger that shows in a frightening way because he controls himself enough to almost overpower anyone he confronts without becoming over the edge psychotic, although there is clearly a psychotic thing going on here. This man is suffering from delusions of "I am right and almost everyone else is wrong," so don't fuck with me, or I will put you in your place. Then he finishes off the interviews with a "I am still your friend," piercing gaze that says, "I don't really like you, but I am going to pretend I do so you won't leave here knowing how crazy I really am." Frightening. In his interviews regarding Scientology, the interviewers always show subtle hints of fear when Tom become almost evil in his stare and his defensiveness.  He doesn't believe in chemical imbalances or using psychiatric drugs, but he is clearly mentally ill, and the fact that he's not on anything is quite dangerous. This is why all the women in his life leave him. Crazy people can't hide their craziness from the people closest to them, for very long!

And Scientology isn't a form of mind control? People will listen to this maniac because of who he is. If a normal run of the mill guy started leaping on couches and having psychotic episodes interspersed with maniacal laughter. I'll bet someone would sedate his arse and give him the penthouse suite in a mental institution.

"That's an alteration of what I'm saying." Spoken like a true fucking scientologist. You can tell one just by the way they talk, I swear it. I am the proud owner of a 1986 edition PTS/SP Checksheet Part One, and this type of nonsensical perversion of language is literally the basis of the entire faith. I quote, "MOTION: People who have Continuous Withholds or Overts tend to be very slow, flubby and impositive. They have to be very careful. And they make mistakes. Slowness or robotness are keys to the presence of Continuous Missed Withholds or Overts." The rest of the publication is the exact same nonsense.

I think that the simple truth that the human body is imperfect supports the science of psychology. If you can have a disease like diabetes where there is too much or not enough sugar in the blood, shouldn't there be possible inconsistencies in the brain as well? I respect Cruise's right to his own opinion, but I feel like he should look at the brain as part of an imperfect body that we need to strive to figure out. Yes, shock therapy was terrible, and yes, some drugs aren't helpful, but it's important to study and develop knowledge in psychology because it has the possibility of helping others. If one thing doesn't work, psychiatrists can work on a new drug and continually improve in the field. The reason we have some problems with psychology in the past (shock therapy, craniotomies, etc), is because we were still learning. The same happened with other medical sciences. In the past, doctors used to think that bleeding someone and putting leeches on them would help. Yes, they might've killed people through this, but if it weren't for those initial errors, they wouldn't have discovered the medical miracles of today. If a psychologist or a psychiatrist or even both can help prevent someone from a mental breakdown that would've led to violence or suicide, I'd say that "pseudo" isn't the right adjective to describe psychology.

Tom cruise style of argument; Never fully agree with your opponent (yes, opponent as anyone who doesn't desperatly kiss his ass) aggressively/passionately state your opinions. Back up your opinions with a lot of facts of shock value to divert attention from the fact that they have nothing really to do with the question. If opinions are questioned - back off and belittle. Make the other feel incompetent. Make him feel like he lacked in respect. Make him insecure. And if he uses your own words against you, laugh at him for being ridiculous.

I agree with Tom. Let's think here for a second, all he was saying was you shouldn't turn to drugs, I think he agrees the drugs could/have solved the problem for the meantime or possibly permanently but the serious side affects aren't really worth it as the side affects can be worse than the actual problem to why you're taking the drugs. Also the fact the person would most likely become depended on the drug and taking a drug daily obviously wouldn't be good for you. Also I'm almost certain what Tom was basically getting at is there are other alternatives to solve the problem, like he indeed said exercise and vitamins or other healthy choices that one can choose to do to conquer these problems rather than taking drugs that can put your life at risk or cause other serious problems directly caused by the drug it's self. With that being said, I think for the average person suffering from some random depression or some random kid with to much energy I think those basics problems can be fixed with simple alternative solutions, however I think certain medications are very useful for people suffering with actual serious Mental Illnesses, but for normal people that obviously don't suffer from serious conditions medication is totally unnecessary and the cons outweigh the pros, but I must say if someone is suffering from a actual illness where they have extreme depression than medication would be useful if the person was depressed enough to contemplate suicide and everything else they tried wasn't working those ''healthy options'' we talked about, I hope I didn't contradict myself here because I mostly agreed with what tom was saying but I also had a little bit of a mixed thought on if those options weren't helping and no other choice but to take medication to save a life, but I do think most of the time people can do other healthy things to solve their problem but the severally mentally ill cannot do those and feel better most of the time so in short terms - average person mostly likely can fix without medications, person suffering from a mental illness most likely can't fix the problem with basic healthy things other than medications so they in terms they need it - the mentally ill that is, not the average person. I Hope I didn't repeat myself to much and hope you got my point whoever this may concern and of course this is all just imo! good day, :).

This is an excerpt from a paper called:  An interview with Abram Hoffer by Andrew Saul. It Listed as Abram Hoffer, the final interview.   Read it at:  Doctoryourself.com  Also, read:  Bill W and Niacin...report 1, 2 and 3. Some years ago, as I sat at lunch with Dr. Abram Hoffer, I took some vitamin pills. Dr. Hoffer leaned over towards me and said, “You know, you’re going to live a lot longer if you take those.” As I looked at him, he added, “I guarantee it. If you don’t, come back and tell me.” So said the founding father of orthomolecular medicine. It was nearly 60 years ago when Abram Hoffer and his colleagues began curing schizophrenia with niacin. While some physicians are still waiting, those who have used niacin with patients and families know the immense practical value of what Dr. Hoffer discovered. Abram Hoffer’s life has not merely changed the face of psychiatry, he has changed the course of medicine for all time. His 30 books, 600 scientific papers, and thousands of cured patients have yet to convince orthodox medicine. Dr. Hoffer has said that it takes about two generations before a truly new medical idea is accepted. Perhaps in the case of orthomolecular therapy, maybe it is three generations.
