Oh, just for you to know, this still is my favourite "fast archery" video. Her form, grace and rythmic consistency never stop to fascinate me.

There's two levels of fast archery: Fast archery and Lars Andersen fast archery. Don't believe me? Look up Lars Andersen.

"Why use bows when we have guns." - Some just prefer to use bows (some just get more of a kick out of bows than guns). - Many countries (example i live in Australia) you need licences for guns and not for bows.  - In many cases it is cheaper to buy a bow - Easier to manage - Quiet for hunting - Reusable ammo

Volley-fire in archery is really old, really well-known, and outside of combat, rarely practiced.

Archery is an art, it is not replaceable by guns. Why don't we just replace talking with texting? Just because people have newer things does not mean they are replacements. Guns are louder, more hazardous, less personal and less beautiful. I am not saying that bows are better than guns, although to me, they are preferable in terms of what should be used, unless you are excited about just killing things. If you are concerned with the efficiency of just killing things, then guns have many advantages. But if you are actually interested in weapon use as an art and hobby, guns have basically no advantage. Expensive expendable ammunition, very high chance of underestimating penetration power, resulting in increased hazards. Common ricocheting, loud banging noise and large recoil, very high mass production and therefore, more uniform and less unique designs. Bows have none of these properties. I am an archer, My birth name is Robin Hood, and I respect archery for the skill it requires. If weapons are to be used as an art and hobby, I think increased skill requirement should be a welcome quality.
Report spam or abuse
Guns are beautiful too. Colt SAA? M14? 1911? Even my grandma thinks my AR 15 is beautiful. There's so many sexy guns. I like recurve bows and pretty much any bow that's traditional. I think compound bows are ugly as shit tho, but if it puts food on the table who cares. And they're called suppressors
Report spam or abuse
I know that, I my cousin is a serious gun enthusiast, I just sometimes use the popularized term "silencer".  As for guns being beautiful, I don't know.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?  I like all bows and that includes compound bows, longbows+recurves.  I agree that compounds do not tend to have the seeming beauty of a wooden bow, but I do not really see any beauty in guns either.  A gun is loud (usually) and intense, but where is the quite and gentle (though strong) beauty?

Just in case you buy into the Lars Anderson archery thing as anything more than a trick shooter making ridiculous claims, here is an actual speed shooter, and you'll note that nocking the arrow on the left is no slower than on the right. Plus, she does it whilst moving around too. This video is something like three years old, she is the student*, and is being trained in a known methodology/philosophy. *I believe; looking at the other videos on the channel

And you're engaging in Homophobia +ConfrontationalRealist. Are you 13? Or is it that you're so insecure in your own sexuality that you think that's some sort of insult?

What poundage of bow is that, i m looking to get a bow that is a lot easier to shoot. My first and only bow is something like 50-60 # and I don't like it

You should try 30# or 20# if you aren't comfortable with 50#

This is how a bow is meant to be fired. No amateur sights, balancing rods or string release clips. Archery is an ancient art, and should be treated as such. As I have instructed people in this way; keep it simple and fire by eye and instinct. Respect the art.

Looks like a reverse European 3-finger draw - the hand stays on the left side of the sting with the thumb pointing down. Note that the string is released to the right while the arrow passes around the bow to the left. It doesn't seem to hurt her accuracy much, so I guess that works too. :)

Between the bow and the rifle, the bow is the most PRACTICAL in a survival situation. Low to no maintenance, quiet, and you can make arrows from small tree limbs, using leaves as vanes. With a rifle, if you run out of ammo you are done.

Sorry, not as fast as Lars, and she does not hold arrows in her draw hand and has to reach in a quiver. Why the snotty comments about Lars? I see that holding the arrows in your draw hand and firing on the right make sense and are demonstrated in historical illustrations.

Theres lots comparing against "guns" and I cannot decide whom sounds the most ignorant, but the race is clearly on with no lack of strong contenders... :) I have trained and competed with most ballistic sports equipment, been in the army, most of my friends compete in various "shooting" sports and so forth. Having decades of experience I have never come across so many assertions that I never ever heard before as in this expert thread. It is actually quite amusing to follow the expert opinions, btw many thanks for the entertainment. A few of the things I would like the experts to develop, 1/ How come you think it takes more skill to shoot a bow than a pistol, and that a recurve takes even more skill? (Practicing all above, I always felt that the recurve having much less weight fully drawn is much easier to hold longer and aim. And pistol shooting would clearly be the hardest skill of all three to master for several obvious reasons, I been trying for over 3 decades to do so... but what do I know) 2/ Please elaborate on why real bows would be safer and more suitable for children than BB rifles? (A bow has a surprising stopping power foremost due to the fact that an arrow is extremely much heavier than a BB. Arrows prolly at least or even more as dangerous as a bullit fired from a REAL gun. In real life I know a lot of nasty shit accidents happened with bows with severe damage or worse outcome. I do not think I can count the eyesights that got damaged from derailed recurve bowstrings. On the other hand not much to mention from BBs other than they sting if a kid caps you in the ass. Real sidearms/rifles disqualifies due to literally no accidents because of the rigorous safety protocols at play. But this is just from personal experiences and pretty deep knowledge in Swedens statistics.) 3/ Guns slaps you in the face? (I love these hilarious expert opinions, they sure put a smile to my face. If you manage to fire a rifle or a pistol and it slaps you in the face, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG LIKE YOU GET TO BE A HERO ON A MOTIVATIONAL POSTER SCALE. You should either apply for a job at Monthy Pythons flying circus or apply for a special olympics grant.) I would really love the authors of these and more expert opinions to elaborate on their funny teachings. For now, I have to read some more funny shit :)) But seriously, join some clubs and enjoy all of them and more - archery (bows, recurves, crossbows) pistol club, rifle club, air shooting clubs whatever and have fun, meet friends, and get educated instead of blabbing hilarious stupidities. ;)

+Englishkin I suppose we are dealing with some geographical differencies here. No babies are allowed to use loaded firearms as toys in Sweden. Where are you from again? Bullet or arrow astray, I cant see a difference? Regarding dropping and bumping guns... Firearms are licensed here and can only be loaded and used at ranges, bows are free from license excepting crossbows. Statistically it is virtually unheard of a firearm projectile going astray and do personal damage in Sweden. Bows are unfortunately a whole other matter I am afraid. I can link the statistics if you like or you can just google it. Otherwise we seem to agree on most stuff, I did not know you could be killed by a BB though? You seem well informed on the old army .45s, I have been trying to master one for many a years now. Even put up some videos on the tube of my humble efforts. I think the most important thing is to be safe and use our short time on earth to have as much fun as possible and allow others to do the same. Wish you a wonderful day mates :)
Report spam or abuse
guns dont just "go off" the trigger must be pulled, many modern guns have drop safety's to stop the firing pin from hitting the bullet primer when dropped or bumped gun powder is also very stable it does not explode unless lit on fire under hi pressure ie in a piece of brass

Greetings from America. Your technique and over all shooting abilities are impressive. I was wondering what draw weight you use and draw weights are commonly used in your style? I shoot a 40# Samick Sage recurve, nothing fancy, just a bow and decent wood arrows for targeting. Post more videos and keep shooting.
