I Got A Name - Jim Croce

by NotOscarWorthy • 233,321 views

When I reviewed these videos I was reminded of the late great Jim Croce. Highway footage was shot heading north along state route 74 - "Pines to Palms Highway" - on the outskirts of the...

I just noticed that all of his songs are about where people live and life maybe he is searching places to see where he belongs an want people to treat life like it is home

My favorite song by Jim Croce. He left our world too soon, but he left the beautiful gift of his music for generations to enjoy.

He gave us so much in the time he was here and deserves to be called legendary . Many people became influenced through his music .

Just spent five days in Utah last week. I played this song too while driving, especially along the scenic route 12. Incredible. The pine trees, the cool air and the fantastic views of the canyons and mountains with this song playing was more than enough to lift our spirits.  Thank you Lord for the gift of nature.

Let's not forget that his guitarist was also killed. Very talented man.

Great video and also a great and peaceful song! Well done! This video reminds me a lil bit on a video of me, probably taken in the same area in California. It's called "Pasc: Black Hell". I also used "I Got A Name" for my newest video about my time in sicily. This is such a nice and peaceful music I can listen every day.

I'm from gen Y . I came to know this song from the movie "invincible" which is a biography of a American football star Vincent Papalle . Suits the theme and great motivational music , on top of it a 70s song always is blissful to listen to.

One of the best songs Jim Croce ever penned.  Excellent video.  I used to live in Southern California (San Diego to be exact) in the mid 80's and my wife and I went through Anza-Borrego on our way down to San Diego and we visited the park several times while we lived in SD.  That video brings some good memories for me.  Thanks for posting.

Sorry George but this was one of the very few that Jim recorded but did not write. It was written by Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox. It was the theme song for the 1973 movie The Last American Hero. All the other songs in the movie were written by Jim. He was offered the opportunity to get his music great exposure in a movie on the condition that he record the theme song that he did not write.

You have no idea!. We have tried to bring the joy and love of Liberty to everyone that desires. But anyway, thanks for your comments about Jim Croce. He died in an airplane crash on the very day that this song was released. We have all cried over him ever since!

My husband and I are remembering the backroads of West Virginia and North Carolina that we grew up on - the pine trees - the long summer days -- and missing our dads -- what a great song.

@sunnchilde I hope you enjoyed the video. I shot some footage as an experiment and, after reviewing it and seeing the winding highway, this song started playing in my mind. I loved listening to Croce when I was in my teens and I was so saddened when he passed away.

Thank you for your service. I'm an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War myself, so I know how tough it can be. Even with our comrades around us there are times when we still feel pretty much alone. Music can help us connect with memories of the ones we love as well as those familiar places and favorite things that we miss so much.

I appreciate your real video footage during the song. I like this much better and it takes me closer to the song than anything else would. I was you when this song was released, and I spent time in the desert in the same area around the same time of my life. Thank you.

I finally saw the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it. My only disappointment was what happened to the dentist. I also think it would have been more fitting if they had replayed "I've Got A Name" at the end of the movie, when Django and his wife rode off together.

What an absolutely beautiful singer/songwriter. This song gives me goosebumps all over. Every word is hand-crafted for maximum impact. There used to be another video on youtube for this song with still-motion shots of a bird taking off from a tree branch, a motorcycle rider, a young couple with a baby, all at the appropriate points of the song, and there was a dedication at the end "to Jim Croce, taken from us too soon." I can't find it anywhere now though. Sad...

It's funny that these are desert scenes. Years ago my family was traveling through the desert and we listened to this CD a dozen times or more. To me now, Jim Croce means the desert. And when I hear his music, I think of the desert.

This is transcendent. Funny it wasn't written by Croce; it sounds exactly like his lyrics, so it's a perfect cover.

The footage was shot heading north along state route 74 - "Pines to Palms Highway" - on the outskirts of the Anza-Borrego State Park in southern California. It eventually empties into the Coachella Valley (Palm Desert, southeast from Palm Springs.)

I would like to dedicate this song to my father, who passed away April 7, 2012 at 3:37 AM. The phrase "I've got a name. And I carry it with me like my daddy did" is so very true for me, as I was named after my father. You've only been gone for a month, but already it seems like an eternity. Goodnight, Dad. I'll see you in the morning.
