Blue the great dane after his ear cropping

by char maine • 19,515 views

Our 8 week old Harlequin Great dane after his ear cropping. Very wobbly and very stoned.

Such  a handsome pup! It is up to the owner whether they dock their ears. Dane's do get a lot of ear infections. They clearly love their pup and are not abusing it. They made the decision based on what they thought was best.

Cropping is no differet than circumsizing (how ever the fuck you spell it), its not cruel, grow the fuck up people, you guys worry about a dogs ears?? Give a fuck about what they do to dogs in China or some shit, something worth standing up for, i fucking hate all you ignorant fools.

how long will they bleed? i just got my bullys done at 10 weeks old, she keeps shaking and crying, she feels cold..

Why should people have their right to choose taken away? Because you AR nuts feel entitled to control what people do with their animals? This procedure is not cruel when done by a GOOD cropping vet...most pups are back to normal once the loopy gas has worn off. If you AR nuts make it illegal, you will just be handing free money to the unethical assholes who do it themselves at home with NO medical training or anesthetics. Which is why I believe people should have the right to CHOOSE. :)

Feeding your dog kibble and letting it be a fat lazy couch potato is animal abuse in 2013 a law if passed will state "dog food has to have 80% or more meat and the dog if a working class has to have a job to do." if you don't follow it your abusing your dog. ear cropping and tail docking is a pure sign of royalty most dogs don't even bleed when it happens. unlike getting a dog fixed which is pain full for a long period of time and alters his mood in a good or bad way.

wow.. what a puppy.. could you post another video

I just want to state that cropping ears almost 100% reduces ear infections, so whatever people feel, it does have a health impact. I have a male Newfoundland (obviously we do not crop ears on this breed), but I have to clean his ears at least every other day or his ears will get infected. They need air to flow in there, So I support this 100%. In retrospect, do male people need to be circumcised, no it is cruel I did not have the option, but it was done to me. I do not remember the procedure.

you should do a lot more research because most dog breed if there ears or tail are not cropped you cant enter them in shows. It is a tradition that people have been doing for many many years. a true 100% Great Dane has his ears cropped. Back in the 18th century you couldn't crop dogs ears because it showed royalty and still does. In Russian if your not wealthy and your Pittbull,Great Dane or Doberman have cropped ears its a federal law and could server jail time. getting a dog fixed is worse.

@GShepardP no, many breeds need sweaters to stay warm and there there are several reasons to crop ears. It is NOT just for cosmetic reasons. Cropped ears will reduce the risk of hematomas, which is a separation of the ears skin layers where blood collects after vigorous head shaking.

I have had many Great Danes and although I am not fond of cropping there is a benefit in the fact that when they play with other dogs and tear an ear it does not heal quickly.

What a gorgeously perfect show marked harlequin!! I think his ear cropping looks nice and overall apearence really matters when you're going to show. So many danes have hound-like ears sometimes when they are otherwise a top notch candidate for the show ring. Cropping ensures your pup will get the best marks, makes the ears more expressionate and definitely more hygenic! Don't listen to these haters, obviously if you're going to spend that much money on your dog you really do care about him..<3

And PS, That is absolutely the CUTEST Great Dane puppy I've ever seen! He has really gorgeous markings. No blanketing of his Harley spots or anything. Show quality Harlequins are hard to find.. Stunning! What Kennel did you get him from?

you are a horrible person i have two great danes with their natural ear and you should be arrested and have your dog taken away

@Dan Smith actually I don't really care about anyone elses opinion. I love my dog, I take care of my dog, and he's healthy and happy. Everyone has a right to voice an opinion, thanks for sharing :-)

NX4enaNX4 your dog should not be bleeding at all. If your dog is shaking and cold you should go to your vet asap.

@LUVreita "There is no scientifically proof that it will cut down the risk of ear infections by increasing ventilation of the ear canal. Keeping the dog ears clean from dirt and debris is the job of every dog owner, it is basic dog grooming, regardless if the dog is cropped or un-cropped. " :)

@DrowsyLoc I know, we can chop off a vital part of a human beings penis, and they wrap it up with their piss and shit, all for looks, but lord a mercy if we cut a dogs ears for the same reason, with added benefit that you know your dog is never going to deal with the ear infections that great danes are so known for. Meanwhile in Muslim cultures world wide, little girls are having their vaginas mutilated for the sake of their "purity" all because a pedophile 1400 years ago said it was alright.

so cute:X:X, I would really love to buy a harlequin great dane, i love this breed so much:X...and i think it's great you cropped his ears, my dog's ears are cropped to and he didn't had any problems with them

Well Ashley I respect your opinion. but as I'm sure i've said on here before there are a lot of things that we do that are not "medically necessary". Piercing young childrens ears, circumsizing your son, are all unnecessary things that people have done. Cropping is not illegal where I live, nor thought of as cruel, and I don't personally feel it's a horrible thing to do, so it was a choice that I made for my pet. His ears gave him no problems and healed nicely.

Thanks for your comments, it's so true. I got Blue from a small breeder just outside of Toronto. He is an excellent dog and has georgeous markings, but is quite short. He is very thick now, at 155 lbs. He tunrned 2 years December 25, 2011.

@DrowsyLoc Exactly. Cropping and docking are only painful for a short time, and can prevent injuries later on in life (not to mention that they just looks good). People need to get riled about real animal cruelty, like animal hoarding, abuse, fighting, etc.

@abbielovesoasis Labradors and Beagles have different ears, and it wouldn't work if you tried to crop them, they also were never originally cropped for working purposes, and Labradors and Beagles tend to shake there head less. Drooling breeds like Great Danes and Boxes are more likely to get this condition, because they shake their head more often.

awww, he's got such a beautiful little face:)

Let's be fair, I don't think the dog gets a choice in the matter unlike someone getting their nose done etc. so the comparison is nonsense.

wrong - poor dog, you guys suck as owners, can I cut your ears? I would rather look at you if you had captain spock ears. What a life wasted 'keeping up with the jones' I hope you get lots of jollies from surgically altering an animal so you guys seem 'cooler' with a textbook looking dog - what are you going to do to your children to enhance them? Guess your parents didn't think you guys were good lookin enough - you've caught the same disease and are passing it on as NORMAL.

I love how some people cruise YouTube commenting on cropped dog's ears. If you don't like it, don't watch! Sheesh!!! Cute baby!!!!

Many dogs look awesome with a good work of ear crop. But sadly many more look really bad with their ears cropped, tend to look like a joke with a pair of antennas wagging side to side while they walk. Vigorous head shaking can be treated by cleaning their ears with a bit of alcohol in a cotton then a little of baby oil to smooth the area, and grooming away some hair that tickles them inside the ear.

What Method did you use on his Ears????

As for the legality, isn't there a state where you can marry a horse? Just because something is legal doesn't make it ok.

@Yuantis No, but some dogs are more prone to hematomas than others.

And hes a cutie after his ears were cropped too...We are all entitled to our opinions..

I've actually heard that its a good decision to have their ears cropped. Since dogs with "floppy" ears have more ear problems than dogs with pointed ears. But either way, he is absolutely adorable :)

He is gorgeous! I'm not a fan of cropped ears, but if done by a reputable veterinarian that truly understands how to properly crop the ears (because not all do, Ive seen more bad crops then good) and the owner is knowledgeable about after care and taping.. then I won't disagree with the choice. His crop does look nice and posted correctly. I think he looks handsome! He's gotta be from European lines.. he's HUGE at 8 weeks.

NEED TO BE CROPPED TO LOOK LIKE A GREAT DANE. ALTHOUGH, MINE DIDNT HAVE THAT TYPE OF HEAD WEAR. :-)

I do not plan to have my future son circumcised or have my future daughter's ears pierced. They can make those decisions for themselves when they're ready.

@ringrunner77 I watched it because I was looking forward to cut my dog's ears but, after the ear crop the process seemed too much of a work if no one was going to be 24/7 with it after the operation. Since it ears needs to be standing and taped up to support them, mold the ear, and give it enough time to grow the strength to keep them up.

most stupid thing I have heard, great danes can be shown with natural ears. NO! such thing as a true great dane with cropped ears as 100% LOL!!!!! THEy are born with natural ears, sounds like you DO NOT own or ever have owned a great dane, you must be young.

how much dose it cost for your puppy to get its ears cropped?

Cool. So people chop their dog's ears off so they can enter them in shows. That's not selfish at all.
Report spam or abuse
@LunatheMutt how come no one ever crops Labrador ears or beagle ears then..... this just seems like another circumcision style argument to me... theres no need for it so you make up some problem that theyll get if its not done. and i guess tail docking is the same.

NOTHING we as humans have done with dogs is natural. We've bred them to be purse sized and defenseless, so wrinkly that they can't breathe, hairless, gigantic and a whole plethora of things... Flip open a dog book.. Almost none of them look like they would "naturally"..We've selectively bred them, many of them for the sole purpose of suiting our tastes. That being said, cropping is a relatively easy process, makes the dog look fabulous and have higher chances of winning in the show ring.

Current veterinary science provides no medical, physical, environmental or cosmetic advantage to the animal from the procedure,[1][2] leading to concerns over animal cruelty related to performing unnecessary surgery on the animals.

@LunatheMutt Basically what you are saying is every dog that has hanging ears needs them cropped because "it can lead to an ear infection". Many dogs can also hurt their tail, you going to cut it just because of the possibility? the Odds are high. Rater wait for the incident to happen if it ever does happens to proceed for such thing. Ears cropped: water can go in, dirt, etc and if the owner isn't responsible to clean the dog's ears it will get an infection anyways.

another idiot. they do not need cropped to "look like a great dane" they look like a great dane because of their natural born makeup genes.

People who let their kids get their ears pierced are idiots and good luck with the circumcision argument against the religious lot. At the bare minimum all the things you list are shallow, selfish acts made purely for 'status symbolism' though feel free to crop your own ears and prove otherwise. A proper counter argument other than 'I respect your opinion but...' may help. I do not respect the opinions of those with no valid argument or who view dogs as fashion accessories.

I personally equate ear cropping to sweaters for dogs, and we all know how much we hate assholes who buy those. Both are bought or done for appearance strictly but dogs are animals, not fashion accessories.

Cutting the ears of any dog should be illegal and sentence the owner to prison. I hope you burn in hell when you die, you sick cunt.
