Pilot is a fucking retard for coming in at that angle and speed. And as if it wasn't bad enough he should've aborted like all the other comments said.
Report spam or abuse
+MrHogzor I've flown into this airport, and you have to fly down the slope of a mountain and down onto the runway, hence his angle of descent. Just wanted to add that.

Well, we're here!  Where's the rent-a-car office and someone fetch me a pina collada!
Report spam or abuse
Seriously pilot. Was it that hard to connect the dots looking at your speed indicator and the remaining runway?
Report spam or abuse
trouble in paradise.
Report spam or abuse
So what eventually happened? Did everyone survive? I hope!

L'est go to the beach !

dumb ass pilot should of just went around and tried again.

I have landed at St. Barts on both  rwy28 and rwy10 and can you,  it can be very tricky due to the winds, the short length of the runway and most of all, the heat coming off the runway surface. Aircraft will tend to float much more than expected when the runway surface is hot..... I have always given myself a predetermined point of firm wheel contact or I will go around.....Also this pilot was in an aircraft that required a fairly high landing speed...He did an excellent job, but floated much more than he expected...

Abort Motherfucker ABORT Thank god he's not flying a A380

Pride has no place in the cockpit the guy should have taken off and go round!!!!!

haha the vastly different reactions between the male and the female make me giggle. and suddenly pissed off cause i hate it when chicks react that way.

Even the slightest thing, some women just... "Oh my GOD! Everybody inside must be dead! They were probably oprhans!"

That kind of... blows

I love the noncommittal reaction. "That kind of....blows?"

I'd punch that pilot in the throat for not going around. What a dumbass!

1:20 NEE NOOOOR JUST GONNA POINT OUT HOW MUCH OF A TIT YOU ARE TO EVERYONE NEEE nooor...

Should of aborted landing
Report spam or abuse
I guess diving to the runway and gaining an extra 30kts of airspeed isn't the best way to resolve a screwed up approach.

Look at the runway before he even lands: there are skid marks from before, probably pretty similar incidents/conditions.  Weird place to put a runway.
Report spam or abuse
Where's the beach, anyone got some suntan lotions, eh?
Report spam or abuse
Way too high, way too hot
Report spam or abuse
I can watch this over and over and still tell myself this pilot if a fucking retard. No shits were given on thier approach speed which led to the enormous amount of floating... this crab of a pilot belongs in the water.
Report spam or abuse
Yo lol! It's flightlevel350.com but the new web owners abandoned it years ago and it went to shit. So for now it's just YouTube. Unless you want to start something new lol.
Report spam or abuse
Oh damn and that site was d shit
Report spam or abuse
Ground effect at it best!!
Report spam or abuse
As soon as the plane floated he should have aborted and gone back round let alone leaving it until the last 1/3 of a runway and then locking the main wheels up due to the braking.

Welcome to St Barts! folks.  We are parked now,,enjoy the free toilet paper.

It still gives him views, if you clicked on the video you would have seen that its this exact video with the same exact URL. The video being posted on liveleaks like this is the same thing as posting the video on twitter.

+JayHag no because the people who upload to live leak do it so they can upload it back to youtube with ads and make money quite a scam of fraud. Nothing like twitter or facebook. The reason its now a youtube video is because someone took the original upload down. Probably the person that owns this cvideo and saw my message. So now yes it is a youtube embed correct.

if you can't land, don't try it, just go around. How the hell did he try to land when he was almost at the end of such a short runway
Report spam or abuse
I think the pilot lost the licence.
Report spam or abuse
Couldn't wait to hit the beach with a cocktail in hand!
Report spam or abuse
If you would see a picture of this runway from the beach side it looks like an asphalt ski slope. The runway kept dropping away from the pilot as he flared to land. Nowadays, novice pilots aren't allowed to land there unless they have had practiced several landings with an experienced instructor.

Airspeed too high. Thats why the plane cant land.
Report spam or abuse
There's no way of knowing the airspeed from the ground. The groundspeed definitely seemed high. There could have been a tailwind but, it looks more like a right quartering heading by judging the windsock. Should have done a go around.
Report spam or abuse
As soon as he floated the roundout...GO AROUND GO AROUND!
Report spam or abuse
He should have aborted that landing?
Report spam or abuse
stupid pilot...He should not continue to land  his plane if he has the good calculation...
Report spam or abuse
The pilot is carelessly. Groundspeed overspeed and land at the middle of the runway.
Report spam or abuse
people need to know that a go around is OK! that is something my CFI tells me a lot. in my opinion this pilot came in with to much airspeed and then did not react properly to the floating down the runway. when he went past the 1/3 part of the runway he should have aborted the landing but once he passed the halfway mark he should have not even tried to land, once he did touch down though it was to late to try to stop....
Report spam or abuse
He missed the landing marker, dumb pilot move there.
Report spam or abuse
I think this is the controller fault for not warning the pilot about the wind
Report spam or abuse
+function86 Do they have signs on runways saying "land at your own risk"?  Why would you build a runway in such an awkward location?
Report spam or abuse
+sheet bug because it's on a tiny island and there is no other place to put it.
Report spam or abuse
I know they teach pilots to land on the markers on the runway, but you're supposed to land on the markers on the NEAR end of the runway...
Report spam or abuse
wow so lucky to catch a rare event like this
Report spam or abuse
Not only was this a down hill runway, there's a hill you have to avoid on your approach making this a very difficult landing. You can see by the floating markers that most landings happen 180 degrees. This was obviously not a normal circumstance, still should have aborted the landing. I've landed at some runways where you have no choice but to land with the wind because the mountain is in the way...

I live in saint barth
Report spam or abuse
Pilot came in with too much speed, ground effect to place and floated,  shouldve been an immediate go around.
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
why dont they land on the other side of the runway?
Report spam or abuse
Waaaaaay too much ground effect to land! This guy needs to learn the usefulness of the "go around" =_=
Report spam or abuse
I think i will be spot-on on this but i am guessing about 49,000 dollars USD in repairs and 10,000 dollar USD deductible, plus another 1200 dollars USD for St. Barts rescue and recovery.  Pretty expensive vacation.

go to 0:18 and pause it, Then look at the road, Theres a cow or something xD

Its a goat...lol. Good job in seeing that.

Touched down WAYYY too late!
Report spam or abuse
It is ok, no one hurt in this accident. Only pay some repair fee..
Report spam or abuse
His approach wasn't stabilized at 300 feet (airspeed (too high), glide slope, rwy centerline), he should have recognized that and gone around long before he was still floating and more then halfway down the runway.
Report spam or abuse
The saying is, "if you can drive a car, you can fly a plane." Well that pilot must get in a lot of fender benders.
Report spam or abuse
Never underestimate the value of executing a missed approach.  Especially when your ego is greater than your flying skills.
Report spam or abuse
After years..i have to say it again...this pilot is a stupit prick!!!! There was no problem on board, no problem for go around...
Report spam or abuse
"Oh crap. That kinda blows…" Americans!!
Report spam or abuse
Humans! What? Expect him to say "Bollocks, That was unfortunate"? People live in different cultures. Deal with it.
Report spam or abuse
+TheKonfuzedMan I think he was referring to the totally underplayed reaction, which was fucking hilarious. Chill.
Report spam or abuse
If it don't look right, big or small, what do you do? Firewall. Glad nobody was injured.
Report spam or abuse
Terrible flying. Every pilot knows not to touch down that late. He should've nosed up and had his airspeed down before he reached the road.
Report spam or abuse
It's hard to go nose-up when flying down the hill, VERY HARD.  So you basically have to still have decent air-speed but spoil lift at the same time.  You have to be very creative and at least have 100+ landings under your belt in wind before taking this on.  And no doubt, he should have had the sense enough to go-around, plenty of time and head-wind to make that happen unless he suffered a catastrophic medical condition (Heart attack, stroke, about to shit his pants (sharts) from heavy binge drinking from the night before and had companions and business associates on board that he would have been embarrassed to soil his pants in the company of or worse yet stink up the entire cabin and cockpit with nasty, runny, bubbling tan colored beer shits.)
Report spam or abuse
He came in too hot.....
Report spam or abuse
I'm a pilot. He was coming in "hot" (too fast). He used up much of the runway in the air, and there was simply not enough left for the landing.
Report spam or abuse
Then touch down was on the last 1/3 of the runway..that wasn't an accident.... pilot error...
Report spam or abuse
The altitude, descent rate, and approach speed, caused him to develop ground effect or ballooning after flaring, touching down late well above the touch down zone. GO AROUND!!! Full power , flaps one notch, gear up when there is no more usable runway and fly the closed circuit traffic.

And the most expensive part of the repair is the prop strikes. Both those engines are coming out to be stripped down. Every rod, baring and gear is to be checked out.
Report spam or abuse
That and I'm sure the airport authorities would love having you over running around on an active airfield causing more chaos then there already is ... would be quite helpfull :-)
Report spam or abuse
any plane landing at gustavia lll should have thrust reversers
Report spam or abuse
No I am not a real pilot I wish.. on my avatar that is a sim cockpit. Yes I love aircraft, I love being around them I can live and breath aircraft :-) I am sorry that you had to stop flying because of your diabetes but at least I am sure you get the chance to be on one when you feel like it as am pretty sure you still have pilot friends that still fly. But yeah life is hard sometimes and there is nothing we can do.

In your theory of pilot error, you are assuming that there was pilot error in the first place, i.e. he travelled over speed for a full stop landing by accident. You also said that his workload was to great and that he made the wrong call. Unless you are sure there was not another error such as the pilot realising that an instrument was not working properly, then you can only speculate like me, not say something definitively.
Report spam or abuse
Ok well guess what. I wasn't talking to you, you're lying about it being half a mile because it looked to m like 3 miles, and I was talking in GENERAL. Get your facts straight before you try starting a fight with someone just saying what tell would do.
Report spam or abuse
what an idiot pilot, he should have gone around!
Report spam or abuse
is this the piper Aztec that crash
Report spam or abuse
Deamit it was all new now you ruined the runway >:(
Report spam or abuse
Not all the time. Obstacles and slope also dictate if it is a one way strip. Can also land with a tailwind. Most aircraft have published numbers for tailwinds of up to 10kts.

I presume they left those skid marks on the runway as a hint to anyone else who floats on the flare.

Always remember kids, Go-Arounds are your friend!
Report spam or abuse
I just landed a 747 on that. Does that count? ;) Weighted 405 000 pounds.
Report spam or abuse
Wooooooaaah, ever heard of a Go-Around? Shit the bed... never land that far down.
Report spam or abuse
Maybe not as bad as you think, at least the pilot did one thing right and shut down the engines and fuel flow before it nosed in, probably saving the engines. Props are buggered of course and that's expensive enough.
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
Came in too steep - too much airspeed, floated, didn't touchdown until it was too late to stop.
Report spam or abuse
did he land the right way? should he land from the water
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
yes it is downhill. so the flare is a bit different from a normal runway. and there's that steep descent right before the touchdown which makes it really tough to get it right. it's one of the most difficult places to land yes, but also you know right away when you got it wrong and have to go around, which was obviously the case here. st barts doesn't have PAPI. and it wouldn't be of much use anyway since there's a rather tall hill right before the runway threshold which requires a steep descent
