Giant Koosh Ball in Liquid Nitrogen!

by Jefferson Lab • 21,889,274 views

Sometimes, you just want to know what's going to happen! Watch "Let's Pour Liquid Nitrogen on the Floor!" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvuOhpsI9yQ] if you're concerned about the liquid nitrogen...

Why did you just dump all of the liquid nitrogen on the floor?
Report spam or abuse
Because it just evaporates almost instantly anyway doesn't matter where you dump it as long as it doesn't come in contact with skin its fine
Report spam or abuse
+EggiTheShadow It does matter how much is spilt. Too much, and you run into problems other than freezing. See this video for details: https://youtu.be/gvuOhpsI9yQ

you have a gas substance that can freeze almost anything to the point of breaking and you talk about a sale on a toy that is like 2 dollars
Report spam or abuse
+Jefferson Lab ya I think giving them the number 5 is way to expensive
Report spam or abuse
+Nathan Coffman its not a gas substance. its liquid. that should be pretty obvious since the whole... you know... lets drop a ball in LIQUID nitrogen?

Who walks by a toy in the mall and says: "Yeah, I'm gonna put that in Nitrogen." Lol😂😂

You should not wear gloves because if you got the stuff on your gloves than they'll freeze on your hand✋❄️
Report spam or abuse
+Kellie Carranco False. If you're cooling the gloves so much that they are freezing to your hands, then your bare hands would be frozen anyway.

This is why science is so amazing. I didn't expect it to go rock-hard and brittle, though.
Report spam or abuse
0:16-0:19 that is a very strange first thing to think....

Ummm can I boil strontium chloride 20% solution to get strontium chloride Crystals ?
Report spam or abuse
+shaurya singh Crystallization is performed by adding a salt to the solvent so it becomes saturated at a high temperature (preferably a bit lower than boiling temperature if you don't want to make a mess when using a small container) and then let it cool down slowly for macroscopic crystals. Alternatively apply a thermal shock i.e. ice bath if you want microscopic crystals. As 20% is far below the EQ concentration at room temperature (106 g / 100 mL of the hexahydrate), no, no crystals. If you want to grow a single crystal, you have to use a saturated solution at a constant temperature and the solvent will slowly vaporize, insoluble salt will deposit on the crystalline lattice template (seed crystal) if the process happens slow enough.

The scientific side of YouTube : Science is beautiful but sometimes disappointing. Is it possible to make Jurassic Park a real thing ?

it's like they are killing a tribble. so sad.

Oh liquid nitrogen, how I miss thee.

the common things you hear in science class "safety first!" "okay kids, take your notes" "predictions anyone? before we continue with our experiment?"
Report spam or abuse
who goes to the mall, sees a ball toy, and automatically thinks "wow I wonder what would happen if I put this in liquid nitrogen" ?!?! XD
Report spam or abuse
Lol I did this at school! but with bananas and flowers and stuff

Giant Koosh Ball in Liquid Nitrogen!: https://youtu.be/-0y-xPG5n5g

omg that's the first thing that pops into my head whenever I see a koosh ball, too! To put it in liquid nitrogen. Haha, funny video though
Report spam or abuse
how come you guys will this kind of ideas
Report spam or abuse
Its funny how in the beginning the guy is just absorbed by the ball while the girl is talking abd then hes just like *oh.... when she takes it away from him
Report spam or abuse
Then she gives it back and ge carries on
Report spam or abuse
Report spam or abuse
When they dumped the nitrogen, I yelled CLEAN IT UP. I forgot it evaporates. BOILING COLD ROCKS!
Report spam or abuse
(this is before i watched what it did) it might even explode the entire lab... who knows
Report spam or abuse
I just was looking around for random things and noticed this. I do know that ruber exposed to liquid nitrogen will cause it to shatter like glass when dropped. I think its because the molicules are so compresses to the point of it becoming a solid in a way. Really awsome video
Report spam or abuse
We did this at school and we made ice cream with that by freezing the stuff
Report spam or abuse
It's ALIVE! Oh wait now it's dead. It just blew up. Oops.

I don't know who that guy is, but he definitely enjoys his job. I mean, look at him toying around with that koosh ball throught 60% of the video!

In the beginning....while the girl was talking.....that dude was just standing there staring at it and playing with it😄 lol
Report spam or abuse
I have a whacky question that almost has nothing to do with this. What happened when you replace water in a water cannon with liquid nitrogen and shoot it? will it be very very misty out there and everything got frozen. Or become completely useless or anything else? (Yes, I have some kind of an Ice Ray Gun in mind when I wrote this)

Have you ever tried putting a water balloon in liquid nitrogen, or even tried to fill a water balloon with said liquid nitrogen?

is there any problem with the steams
Report spam or abuse
There's an ice cream place by my house that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the ice cream.
Report spam or abuse
the reason it exploded is the ball froze but the air pressure was still the degrading, stretching out the air and creating a high powered vacuum that caused it to explode
