Thanks Mike. This was really informative and helpful.

every good technique has a few glitches here and there i find.. are there any limitations to this and or anything to be wary of?

wow, that's pretty neat. Looks like a great alternative to Terragen.

This its amazing! but...how paint grass? xd

You are right. But this approach is surprisingly generic, you can even adapt it to work with higher number of land-classes. But, recognize the fact that this approach works far better with high frequency, tileable textures such as wood/bricks/asphalt/grass than non-repeating textures such as logos/markings/etc. As such, terrain is a perfect candidate to try this texturing approach on.

That's pretty cool. It's interesting to see an alternative, and more creative way to shade models.

Amazing technique! Thank you 4 sharing!

This is texture splatting. This technique has been used to texture terrains basically for as long as 3D graphics has existed.

Very nice, though would this same technique work on a custom terrain model? For instance, I want my map to have caves that I can walk inside. How would you go about doing that?

Not sure what you mean by 'custom terrain', this method works on any geometry. As you as you can UV-unwrap it, you can texture it.

Basically, yes. But with this technique, you are able to pack a lot more data into a single texture (i.e. a single RGBA channel can store 4 different textures).

I never thought of using the Node Editor like this.
