Criminal Tweeting Conspiracy?

Description: A UK man is still in hot water over scandalous airport tweet. Order your SourceFed Posters here: http://bit.ly/SourceFedPosters Our Source: http://bit.ly/MWFzKi http://ind.pn/MYqR7w Go...

While the punishment was very over-the-top the point needs to be made. If you are angry do not express it in a way that could be interpreted as a large terrorist like action. Given recent history he should have been given a slap on the back of the head. If something had happened the amount of legal liability would have been tremendous. If you recall after 9/11 people criticized authorities for numerous "signs" suggesting that there would be an attack.

lol Their gestures appear just stupid and feminine.

The world would literally be better without twitter!!!!!

why are leaders kill millions and call it collateral damage.
Report spam or abuse
It's allright to joke, but that joke wasn't even funny.

Normally yes. But perhaps the phone partly damaged in some way. Or perhaps they are not using a phone. Unless I’m wrong (and feel free to correct me) you can post tweets with a computer. Before that idea gets countered, yes someone did use a computer to call for help. She was alone, had no phone in reach, and was suffering an asthma attack while on a computer. She popped into a chat saying she need help was having trouble breathing. A boy in the chat room got her address and called for help.

Actually the fact that he keeps trying to get the fine appealed makes me think he hasn’t learned his lesson. Personally I think if he learned his lesson he would simply try to pay the fine. But that is just my opinion. I can respect you to have an opposite opinion, so maybe we can agree to disagree.

airport police or terror security crews and that sort of thing, don't mess with them ever! mkay ? mmmkay! ;]]]

We should put some thought on we post on the web. This is a real example. A person tweeted, “Just myself in the foot.” That is it, no other text beyond that. A friend saw this tweet and unable to reach the sender, she believed her friend may really be in trouble. So she called police. The sender meant it as an expansion, but no one could be sure of that. For reasons unknown tweeting might have been her only means to call for help. The sender was fined for basically sending a fake distress call.

as long it's not directed at something specific. Like if that guy called that into the airport then it would be a completely different story. But since he said it on twitter, a public domain, he shouldn't be penalized. That's the same thing as me saying that on the street and getting arrested.

While yes, the man is an idiot for posting anything like that to any social media site, this whole thing has been blown WAY out of proportion. I mean, are they overlooking the fact that the airport that was "threatened" said that they didn't take it as a credible threat? Give him a slap on the wrist or something, don't persecute the man forever.

Lol it reminds me of my high school senior year. 1 month before graduation our valedictorian got kicked out of school for posting how mad she was at a teacher on xanga. She was mad because she wanted to buy a certain sash for graduation and that the teacher said it was sold out but in reality it wasn't. Bottom line yea she got kicked out of school for a xanga post.

I don't know, after hearing this I think it's pretty funny....good on him for going all out to make everyone @ SourceFED laugh.

I stay away from social networks. Winning. Still, those authorities are stupid to do all of that over an obvious joke tweet.

Governments think they're perfect.. if we can get a list of the government's crimes a revolution would ignite!!!! Please don't arrest me if an actual revolution occurs :/

I don't think he should get in trouble for tweeting a joke, I do however think he should get in trouble for being a dumbass, at what did during his writing if the tweet did he think "Yep this seems like a good idea"

I see what you did there, I giggled for one second, then hated you for five.

Well, I know the US First Amendment, as in the Freedom of Speech, doesn't protect fighting words or any threats to public safety, etc. EX: a prank I read online. You take a suitcase and go into a mall. Act guilty and suspicious for a while before screaming "AKBAR ALLAH" and throwing the suitcase and run away. ^you would be arrested for that.

Personally I don’t think adding LOL would have helped. I don’t work security or law enforcement but if saw that with the adding of LOL, I think I would still feel the need to investigate. A crazy person might actually laugh at the idea killing someone.

I really don't like this trend of employers and governments punishing people for what they say via the internet. The internet is the global public square, and I should be able to express myself, even to the point of being, offensive, vile and disgusting (to some). We need an internet Bill of Rights.

Ohp, sorry, I didn't realize that. Thank you for correcting me, without coming off like a major ass like some people. I do think that they should just take away the record of it for the man's sake though. I feel like he's learned his lesson and has gone through enough.

im all for comedy being completley uncensored, but this guy was just an idiot. everybody knows you cant even mention the word bomb in an airport, tweeting isnt any different. if I were in charge, I wouldnt arrest him, but as it happens the law is really strict on this sort of thing so its his own stupid fault. and the joke wasnt even funny

How did this make the top 2 comments? The only limit on freedom of speech are threats of violence. We don't have total freedom of speech in any country. There is no way to distinguish a joke from a real threat but I do think it should be dismissed after it was determined to be a joke. You can't fault them for reporting that. smh sourcefed viewers

Nothing is sacred. If anything is "off limits" then everything has to be "off limits". No one is the exception that proves the rule. Everything or Nothing.

He just needed to end his tweet with JK just kidding

Dickwolves, ladies and gentlemen. Was that uproar so long ago that we've forgotten what a simple joke can do to a(n online) community? I do not think that a person should be held lawfully accountable for trying to make a joke, but it still remains fairly clear that there are certain things that should be left alone.
Report spam or abuse
governments should send out a warning before arresting just in case it is a joke.
Report spam or abuse
No, certain things should not be allowed as a joke. Even if someone joking says on the internet, "I'm going to blow up an airport" or "I'm going to shot the president" or "I'm going to rape my neighbor", if there is no textual indication that it is a joke, it should be treated as if they really intended to act on their statement.
Report spam or abuse
I think we should just get everyone to re-tweet that dudes threat.. lol
Report spam or abuse
You didn't mention that this has given him a criminal record, which is, from what he has said, the main issue. With this criminal record, it prevents him from getting many jobs, travelling to many different countries etc. That's the key issue for him, not the money charge.

Umm hello freedom of speech BITCHES
Report spam or abuse
I think people should be able to joke around with anything they want, but just make sure you have an audience that wont get offended by the joke.
Report spam or abuse
I think it was fine to say, but... Maybe not the SMART thing to tweet. I mean, would he have said that out loud in the airport? No. That would be ... Well, that would be terrible. Funny, but still. Think before you tweet.
Report spam or abuse
The tweet deserved a slap on the wrist, not criminal charges -__-
Report spam or abuse
Let's just make "the slap rule" when you cross the line in comedy, the first 10 people around will vote if you did cross the line, and then all slap you across the face.

I cannot speak about UK laws, but in the United States we have something that would actually cover what he did. It is a doctrine called Clear and Present Danger. Short version, it can put limits on freedom of speech if the speech could put people in danger. In the case mentioned in the video it could have caused people to panic. A common example people use when explaining Clear and Present Danger is shouting fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire. You’re legally not allowed to do that.

Anyone with any kind of exposure to news and/or current affairs over the past decade knows that you don't make bomb jokes about airports. Whether it be on Twitter, Facebook, word of mouth or any other medium is irrelevant. That's the law. If you don't like it, move to Amsterdam.

9/11 wasn't the only terrorist attack you know, in the UK london was attacked on the 7th of July, 2005. Terrorism is still a problem with many still living here in the UK, and although I agree this tweet is our kind of humour, it's still a risk that could cause lives to be lost, it's not something that should look past.

If a person could tweet then that same person could dial three digits. In the case you cite I would fine the friend who called the police (based on a single tweet) under the Chicken Little Principle.

I work in London and at a building that is meant to be a target for terrorism. If I saw this tweet about my work, i'd report it. I don't think it is funny and it puts so much stress on the staff and us as a company too. After the 9/9 bombings in London and the fact that one of the terrorist in the 9/11 bombings came from England is scary...i'm sorry but if that happened to my work place, i'd be scared. I'm glad they did it, those jokes can put people in scary places.
