What people don't realize is that HBCUs (historical black colleges and universities) are extremely old fashion when it comes to rules. Many of them still have building curfews. For example, Hampton in VA has an 11pm curfew for freshmen and sophomores. The HBCU I attended just did away with their curfew the year before I enrolled which was 2004. These are very VERY old fashioned out of touch institutions when it comes to the freedom of a college going adult.

I think what they should do is maybe have one day were the students can wear their pijamas so that everyone can be happy. I live one hour away from my college but I at least try to dress presentable to college.

In one of my college classes the teacher had a seating order and I kept telling myself is this first grade.

I'm surprised that they did a story on this!  I'm a college student, and actually almost NO ONE at my college (University of North Florida) wears pajamas!  Here at UNF, all the girls wear either mini-skirts or yoga pants, and most of the guys wear shorts.  But no PJs!  I guess my college is a little different LOL.

It is ridiculous people wearing pajamas in public for no medical reason. Dress yourself...

@Ivan951 of course weapons can be concealed no matter what you wear. my point is that people who bring weapons to education facilities have taken some of the freedoms we used to enjoy, away from us. such as being able to wear what you want, ie: baggy clothing. and what kind of party is your cousin attending where he needs to carry. also, how is it that i look like an asshole when your fingers start typing before you use your brain?
Report spam or abuse
@TheUnitedStatists<<< douchebag rightwing nutjob trolling a decent video with his pathetic comments
Report spam or abuse
And wearing your pants around your knees like a fool is not the same as baggy clothing. College is not for people who are too stupid to wear their pants properly.
Report spam or abuse
The whole argument, I dont give a single fuck. BUT, do you not want to look your best in public? You represent yourself with your clothing, wearing pajamas make you a fucking slobbering idiot.
Report spam or abuse
If higher education prepares you for getting a job in the real world, well then you need to practice getting your ass out of bed and getting dressed also, just like in the real world.

I think professionals should wear pajamas to the office each day.
Report spam or abuse
I don't mind people wearing pajamas anywhere because it does not affect me. I would never wear pajamas out in public because it looks ghetto. I like to look professional at all times. It is not hard to wake up and put on nice clothes. That is Laziness and I HATE people who are lazy.

My last science book cost me $250. I'm gonna wear whatever the fuck i want to my damn classes.

I teach at a public university. Last year a student came in in a bathing suit. When I say bathing suit I mean a wicked weasle-style thing. She had hot pants tho, so she was only showing off half of her buttocks. I would've preffered that she didn't come like that (it was a bit disrruptive) but universities don't and shouldn't have dress codes. I did not kicked her out. No professor would. This dress code thing is BS. BTW WTF was that :WOW: brrrr thing Cenk did at 1:52?

That chancellor needs to get laid...FAST
Report spam or abuse
@iamLI3 Yes, this issue should not be a big deal. It makes no sense when people who put next to no effort into what they wear will put this much effort into demanding that they be allowed to look like slobs. Maybe if they put 1/100 as much effort into wearing pants properly this wouldn't be an issue in the first place!!

@Joxman2k, well, having spent plenty of time on the model's stand, I can deeply appreciate the talent it takes to be interesting in the nude. Under your clothes, I'm sure you really are a genius. I'm afraid, on the other hand, I've never seen "3rd rock from the sun," so the pop culture reference is wasted on me.
Report spam or abuse
what about nude activists who come to UC Berkeley naked?
Report spam or abuse
This has been a trend for at least 12 years here in Minnesota. People have been wearing them to high school for years around here.
Report spam or abuse
@sdcazares1980 and I agree, it isn't a good philosophy. However the issue at hand isn't whether its good or bad. But rather "should" the chancellor here, have the right to subject students to rules, that prevents students from wearing what they wish. It's an elimination of choice, whether its beneficial or not for students. If there are negative consequences to wearing inappropriate attire, then its the students fault. Not the responsibility of a chancellor.
Report spam or abuse
If you wear pajamas to college, it says you don't care how you look. Since you don't care how you look, then why the hell are you complaining about someone telling you to put some damn pants on? Dip-shits.
Report spam or abuse
As a college student at NCCU I can agree with the chancellor as far as the pajamas, Yes a more presentable attire should be presented, because students would hate to see their teachers wearing sponge bob squarepants.....But yes as an adult students should be allowed to wear what they want as long as it is appropriate.
Report spam or abuse
while i would of course agree that the students have the right to dress how they want, i cannot stand people who wear pajamas to class just because they're too damn lazy to put on real clothes. why would you want to walk around looking like a classless lazy idiot? i wear nice clothes every day because i actually care what people think of me and i want to look my best.
Report spam or abuse
@EyeLean5280 oh and just because you have been in school people should respect you by wearing clothes you find respectful. LOL I pay the teachers salary, I do my things, he should do his, and that is not bitching about my clothing. If you feel disrespect because I wear baggy jeans you should go to saudi arabia. Fuck you, i decide how I look, not you, not the teacher or anybody.
Report spam or abuse
@Ivan951 it is not my belief that baggy clothing should be outlawed in schools or wherever. i like to wear baggy clothing at times. baggy clothes or not, weapons are being carried, hence metal detectors and security gaurds at some schools. is that an illusion of danger as well then? i agree about the administrators, that is actually my point in my first comment. perhaps i should have said " that is THIER real agenda ".
Report spam or abuse
man, get your sorry no job no responsibilities head out of your lazy ass and wash your damn clothes so the rest of us don't have to look at your vile cum crusted PEE hole and wonder what sort of trail of bacteria and disease you're leaving in MY CLASSROOM
Report spam or abuse
@NAKOR007 your the asshole because you have you use an illusion of danger to push your anti baggy clothing belief. And shut the fuck up about people "taking your freedoms" you sound like an ignorant right winger. You should still be able to wear what you want and if thats not happening its not because people in baggy clothes its because of administrators.

ya dont do it at an office job so ya cant do it at school
Report spam or abuse
@DXSXDXSXD i was in the mood to rant and my thought was, to simplify, why do they wear them? Because they dont care. I hate this excuse that its early morning classes thats the reason, because if they cant wake up enough to put on day clothes, why should i expect that they will be awake enough to pay attention in class at the level needed. Maybe you dont agree, but your question just felt like the right place to rant.

Pajama bottoms are much more sensible than the asshats who wear the saggy pants. There's no bigger I'M SO COOL HURRRRRR fashion fad than the saggy pants.

It's a college...these are supposed to be adults, not children. Saw this in college ten yrs ago for both BA and MS classes...foolish then, foolish now.
Report spam or abuse
That's why UNC is the best of the triad! p.s. I disagree with you guys calling this pajama-bottom phase clownish. It says I'm comfortable, or I had to rush to school to day. Which honestly, is both when I wear mine to class.

i don't know were u are, but i am in London England ( the UK ) and this does happen it happens quiet a lot. Even when u got Asda ( Walmart ) you see people in p'j bottoms.

That's silly. PJ's make learning comfortable

Sure you're an adult... but do adults go to work looking like trash? No. They have dress codes at works. So should colleges.

NC Central is just one of our many terrible public universities that look more more like high school. The bigger part of the picture is that the professors have no control over the students. Discipline is not a trivial thing there and it's hard for that to get across to commentators. Furthermore, how can we have any of these expectations about behavior of students if they were never taught the fundamentals of being adult? We don't need these rules, we need to have a real educational system.

I wear a uniform to my public university. Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Mechanical Repair/Auto Tech and Culinary Arts students all have to wear one. You can be marked absent from class for not wearing it. I understand why they have us wear them. I kind of like it, because i don't have to figure out what I want to wear to school.

Sometimes I will wear pajama bottoms but only when it is the only thing I have that is clean in my dresser and have yet to do laundry. So what is the difference between pajama bottoms with a tie around the waist and a pair of slacks with a button... except some of the patterned ones can look silly. Jeans can be uncomfortable to have to sit in classes with for hours.
Report spam or abuse
I kind of agree with the university... I mean, try getting a nice campus photo for brochures while everyone's in pajamas! How do you sell degrees with THAT on the front of your web site?

@redrainjedi and that's illegal , but wth do i know about laws and social situations that i've never been in when im this tired from not being 100% well -.-? *coughs*.... i don't think it will lead us down w/e path it is your talking about but it kinda is infringing on our freedoms , course i think this is coming back to the even bigger topic of discussion that yty's other video about the school denying a kid for having lesbian parents on this personal freedom stuff....

@imgordonfreeman The consequence being that you cannot enter the university because you are dressed inappropriately. I DON'T care, I'm just thinking the uni admins would.

@Joxman2k there are no free universities. Just because it says public it doesn't mean it is free you retard. Clearly you should take a education, internet didn't thought you wel.

the chicks at my high-school wear PJ's all the time (teachers arent to happy about it) but i dont see wats wrong with it as long as you come to class and do your work without causing any trouble, isnt that why you go to school? and it pisses me off that they spend more time bitching and whineing about dress codes instead of putting that effert into keeping the schools safe. worrying everyday about the kids who bring knives to school bothers me more then somone wearing baggy pants.

@CodyAllenmusic right i understand they don't care, but people should WANT to try to look decent. plus the university may have an image to maintain. i doubt harvard would put up with it.

Are Google trying to reduce the amount of money they pay uploaders?? Google do not pay uploaders if viewers "skip ad", they only pay out if viewers watch the entire advert - and there seems to be a dramatic increase in the number of adverts that are 2 and a half to 3 and a half minutes long. I watch the ads, I click through for good measure, but I do wonder whether Google is up to something?

i wore my pajamas to school twice.. awww it was such a bad week. going to bed around 2 everyday (because of homework, thank you). one morning, i was trying to figure out how to pour some mouthwash on my toothbrush. yeah, i usually wear nicer clothes, but shouldnt we at least be comfortable on these days?
Report spam or abuse
@lilJ23fromnyc based on social studies done, it is actually shown that the clothing you wear affects how you see yourself and therefore how well you study. A student who wears a suit while learning, will tend to stay more focused and retain the information better. On the other hand, wearing PJs would tend to reduce retention. Also, what the teacher wears also affects, teacher in a suit will have students respect and pay more attention than one in jeans.

I gotta side with Cenk on this one. This coming from someone who wore questionable clothing to WORK coming out of school. I thought I was providing some sort of fashion statement but now looking back at it, I realize that I just looked like an attention craving douche. Besides, I thought the whole purpose of going to school was NOT, to be like those people at Wal*Mart.

@ammarios Check out FAFSA homeboy. As long as you get a 2.0 GPA, you get the money for school plus extra. and if you get below that for 3 semesters, they just dont give it to you anymore. you never pay it back. so yes. people DO go to school for money.

People have been doing this for years.

@snarerator So you're saying that people that has Financial Aid are just in it for that money?

lol people would get jumped for wearing pajama bottoms in my town and end up eating through a straw for rest of their lives
Report spam or abuse
@snarerator um excuse me??? People who are in school and receiving financial aid are only in it for the money?!! What money?? The money that I get from OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) is student LOAN money ... it is money that I not only have to pay back after graduation, but WITH INTEREST. I DO get some grants for my grades, but the loans are a horrible debt-load. NO ONE goes to school "for the money" ESPECIALLY not financial aid students. There IS no "money". Only a debt-sentence.

If they want to show to class wearing trashy lingerie, it should be allowed at the university.

I think the chancellor needs to leave it alone. However, I understand that the chancellor is only looking out for the kids and the university's image. If that is the case, then maybe he should impose that only pajamas with the university's logo is allowed in class?

@redrainjedi yes i already said that that is what i think in my comment , a simple point (I THINK , this is just the kind of stories i've herd before idk for myself ) that goes against that entire idea that say there's a guy at an office job that has to wear formal clothing then next thing you know he identifies himself as a tg and he starts to wear w/e crazy wardrobes he can come up with and they can't tell him no he can't do that because that would discriminating against his sexual identity--

@redrainjedi there may be an intended function in the design yes , but that's where your wrong again , nether you nor the pants change depending on how low you position the waist line because the pant's don't care what they are being thrown over , it's only the idiots who think this kind of thing make a reflection of some kind of negativity in ones character who complain about this i suppose closely related to "if ppl think we've evolved from monkeys then we have to behave monkeys".........

I'm 47 years old; I remember what its like to express yourself in all kinds of ways as a teenager; clothes being one form on expression. Let teenagers be a little quirky with the way they dress for fuck sake. I am an Aussie btw, I went to a public school where they tried to enforce a dress code, and it pissed me off to no end. I was 13 years old and was told not to wear sneakers, so I went to school the next day with my father's steel-capped work-boots on. :-)

@BigMike2521 I think if you're paying more then 3 grand a semester, you would be smart enough to know you can't wear whatever you want. Thongs? No shirt at all? But hey, if you want to look like a homeless bum, more power to you.
