I'm atheist and religion shouldn't be banned from schools, but rather people should learn to respect other people's views. If you were to ban religion people would riot and if you said every school has to teach religion people would riot. So therefor just tell people to learn w/e they want and practice w/e they want. Peace.
awesome comment bobby.. but reality is that people of one religion cannot respect another because they were taught others are 'false'... that's the problem.
People reject it because it is expected by their predecessors, parents, friends, extended family, random people that have no stake in what they do in the confines of their homes. Religion is up to the individual. Do not take people's free choice as an insult to your beliefs, but rather a result of your predecessors that were good people and said "Yes, please make your own choices and develop your own morale in your own time through witnessing the world." Take this as something good that people can have morals and not have to learn it from one specific person or one specific teaching. It is like math: Ex. there is more than one method to achieve a goal. +Jesus Is Lord The Bible has many good things said in it and some in bad taste... like I rather think figs aren't that bad, but Jesus seems to have hated them. (terrible joke intended) Just know that the bible and the many versions that continually are rewritten all say that you are not to judge others nor are you to attempt to cause them, to judge themselves for in the bible that is up to God. I am for lack of better terms an agnostic and I full back the originating comment that is this thread within a thread.
Heres my question. I was raised Catholic. I grew up in a Catholic school, Catholic environment, Catholic home. Ive always been around people who worship God, pray and talk about how he loves us unconditionally. Ive been told how God made the Earth, people and forgives us for everything. If that is so true, how come there is no proper evidence that he has been real, how come God loves us so much to send down natural disasters and worldwide disease that are killing millions. How come everything I "pray" for doesn't come true. Why is it that children are being told unproven parables (stories) of people performing highly unlikely miracles e.g Moses splitting the entire ocean in half for people to walk through, Jesus turning a barrel of water into complete wine, Jesus resurrecting from death and coming alive again. Why is that people these days arnt able to perform those so called "miracles".  Why isn't that world seeing this. Am I the only person who thinks this? I wonder.
+Jonathan Fairfield Sooo...if you say that civilizations created supernatural gods, who created these civilizations? Certainly not Spinoza, Russell, Paine, et al. And certainly not the Kardashians, though I suspect their hive mother called them from the sea at the bay of Calabasas to hold watch over her prisoner, an aging Captain America, who is entirely unable to resist, while they turn him into a woman and continue their permeation of our concept of beauty, until we are all entirely lost by their siren song published in US Weekly. Anyway, outside of the Calabasas Sea Creature theory, I'd be glad to discuss your ideas of our creation--including evolution, as, even this, required some kind of start in the past--should you be willing. Anywho, watch out for the Kardashians: I hear they are mustering their forces for a total overthrow of California...
You forgot he hasn't done anything about isis either.
God Bless this song and praise Jesus Christ. Why do atheists have to always comment on beautiful songs such as this one and make negative remarks. Jesus died for you and he died for me as well. He did it so it'd be okay to sin as long as we simply ask for forgiveness as Christ forgave us. Jesus isn't asking us to climb a mountain or make big building. All he wants is us to worship him because he is the only way to the father. Have any of you watched the "GROX" on YouTube? I suggest you do, on his channel he does prove the existence of him and his gift of what he finds is amazing and humbling.
+C P because belief without evidence precludes rational, logical, thought.  Because religious people like you have a bad habit of forcing your children to go to church without allowing them free thought to decide for themselves.  Because religious people are the ones who blow themselves up, murder innocents in the name of imaginary friends, deny rights to others, interfere with other people's lives because of the words of a schizophrenic sheepherder, refuse medical treatment for their children, violate the constitutional separation of church and state, wage holy wars, intentionally cause accidental pregnancies by refusing birth control, deny climate change because "god"....just to name a few things. Oh and last but not least? you deny science and don't even provide any evidence to support your lies. that's why we don't keep our mouths shut...because your belief systems do nothing but bad for humanity.
+C P +travaail I am all for religious debate. I love it. I am usually the first to lead the charge on this subject, and really, its an important subject to talk about. With that said, this is a song. This is a piece of art. This is not a Hitchens V.S. the catholic church debate. This is namely a song about sex. Sorry to disappoint you all. I honestly wish we could spend some time talking about human sexuality. Orgasms are good. Love is dangerous and heart breaking. Lots of good stuff to talk about there. Also.. Why is there so much biblical imagery in this song?... Leonard Cohen... The guy that wrote this lovely little bit to begin with... Was Jewish. Sorry Mr. Christian, you are the one trying to be the center of attention with your "JESUS JESUS JESUS" bullshit... Its okay to love art sometimes without having to proselytize... Also my fellow atheist.... What is the point of being godless if you can't enjoy your "intellectual" freedom from theism enough to just simply chill and enjoy some art...... Now... I am all down to talk about the biblical stories that influenced this song because that shit is cool, but honestly... neither of you are going to convert anyone in this place... you're just missing out on one of the awesome things humans do no matter what they believe in.... ART! I hope that maybe I have made you both reconsider what is important in life just a little. Its okay to smile at the roses sometimes.
Why are people in the comments complaining about being religious or being an atheist. I am agnostic meaning I am 50/50 on believing God/gods. Why can't everyone respect each other's beliefs and get past the stage where everything one person thinks has to be true. No matter what religion you are as long as you aren't hurting anyone else I will respect your beliefs and I'm 14 so obviously if I am mature enough to respect beliefs most people in the comments should be.
Whenever someone thinks a good song is religious the agnostic and atheists always freak out because they have this snobbish notion that all religious people are dumb.  Serious shut up.

+edorik316 _ ok! ora ho capito cosa intendevi! grazie!
I think this song is only using religious references to explain a failing relationship and hallelujah is the good that he misses, though he is jaded through all the get her went through. The first line, for example, is saying that even a chord that moved God couldnt do anything to help. Very little to do with religion in the actual message
It's the meaning Neil it's why I'm confused people are using this as a religious song.... Miley Cyrus does the same some people might want to go praise that instead of these rude comments on such an amazing song.

Any Jeff Buckley fans out there? I am relatively new to his music. I first found out about Jeff during Chris Cornell's Songbook tour when Chris had a red telephone on a stool next to him throughout his entire shows. The phone was a gift to Chris after Jeff passed away. Chris said that Jeff used the phone to talk to God (pray). It was special to Jeff, and therefore to Chris. Regardless of the various interpretations of the lyrics of this song, I think it is beautiful. God is taking care of Jeff now. No more phone calls... (Helena and Sasha, the other video of this that you commented on got deleted by YouTube! BOOOOO! I saved my post though, so we can still see what we said. Here's a different version to enjoy.)
+Musical One   You´re right, it´s probably that.  In that case, i agree.
Being religious is not a bad thing. Sometimes it's nice to have something to believe in, especially when you come to a point in your life when everything seems hopeless. When you're beat and broken and at your lowest point, your religion can be the thing to save your life. The reason you choose not to give up just yet.
Unintelligent Atheists on here are as bad as the Overzealous Christians, all you seriously just STFU and enjoy the music. Music is it's own religion and is also interpreted differently by everybody. You people are like that Literature teacher asking what the story meant to you and then telling you you are wrong.
A lot of music has a distinct meaning and is only interpreted differently because of past memories connected with the song.. It could still mean the song isn't about that all. A lot of music isn't open to different meanings, it's very clear. Can't say all music is open to interpretation because it's not. And really.. You can't see the irony of trying to stop the harshness between religious preference with more harshness.. Great job. You'd make a great peace leader.
+Casually Serious Jeff Buckley's version is interpreted as being about orgasm. The original meaning of the song isn't about orgasm. It's about a relationship that was passionate but went stale and hopeless.

I actually love this song. For some reason I love it a lot.
Maybe because its a good song??
Or cuz it is halleujah for orgasm? Seriously, the whole cover is based on it. beautiful indeed
+A. J Scipione Grazie, amico mio!! Buonanotte!!
' always a sucker for a tortured soul..this version is beautiful in its simplicity. I find it hysterical & amusing there are any religious comments on here at all, given this is not a religious song. "There was a time you let me know what was really going on below/But now you never show it to me, do you?/and remember when I moved in you, the holy dove was moving, too/ And every breath we drew was hallelujah". I think a nun would faint before preaching that to the kiddies!
Nuns don't faint before teaching human sacrifice to kiddies. "Jesus bled and died... FOR YOU!" If that's not creepy enough, I don't know what is.
+Timothy Stratton I'm sorry sex is a sacrifice for you.
You are most welcome... Wasn't sure any one would even know who he was....but I loved his stuff... Thank you... Glad you enjoyed it..
+Luigi Spennati xo yes... I agree ... He was such a gifted guitarist, singer.. I came to know his music thru this song.
Shrek is love, Shrek is life.
+DistanceCinema did you just tell someone to go fuck themselves and call them immature faggot right after? What the shit?
Hopefully people don't lose their shit but I am an atheistic satanist and this song sounds like beauty is whispering in my ear. You don't need to be of certain faith to appreciate wonderful music/art like this, contrary to what some people in the comments say.

Great and Beautiful version of the song ”Hallelujah”. Jeff Buckley´s improvised guitar work in the beginning is excellent and so is his voice. Gone but Never forgotten. <3

I'm not one of those shrek super fans, but I really do prefer Rufus's version. Less choppy, really. Even if the song was meant to be that way, it's just much more appealing to my ears.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Official Video):
Religion is the most harmful thing ever created by mankind. Not an opinion, a fact. History proves this as well as what's going on currently in the world. Keep it the hell out of our schools! On a different note i do love this song.
Its not the religion itself dude. If ya really knew your history you would know the fact about all the wars in human history can be attributed to one thing "Follow the money". Perverting ideologies and theologies to that end is simply a means to garner support and the original ideas themselves may not be bad.

Bela e emocionante! HALLELUJAH
Beijo, querido!
Please learn the truth before giving your soul away to any name;Hallelu"Y"ah=praise to "Yah"( Yahushua). Yahushua is the real Jesus Christ, the character Jesus Christ was created by the Catholic Church for negative reasons.
+Alex B greetings, i was not refuting the story and myth of Jesus, i was pointing out that i was raised Catholic, in recovery for decades, the guilt trip is only second to my understanding of the jewish faith. The protrayals of Jesus by the catholic church, is statues and paintings of Jesus and he looks pretty pale and with light brown hair n beard, it is difficult to believe that portrayal of someone from that region that long ago.
I don't care what people say i LOVE The Lord Jesus no matter what I am a Christian and I AM PROUD OF IT
i am not religious, and i usually call myself agnostic.  but that does not matter here.. this is a beautiful song..
FNS Jeff Buckley - "Hallelujah" Thinking about this song during the Christmas season. So much talent there, and such a haunting, amazing song. Leonard Cohen was always my dad's favorite. Sit back and enjoy this one! #FNS   #fridaynightsessions   #jeffbuckley   Sean
Love it soo much 💓
In my personal opinion. this this the most beautiful musical peace ever recorded....
I do not know a more beautifully passionate version of this song. Any suggestions?
I wish the comment section had a "disable idiot button" Seriously keep all negative thoughts to yourself unless they are constructive critism. Just listen.
hallelujah and waluigi have the same amount of syllables...
I can not listen to this man sing without crying, and I could not tell you if they are tears of pain or joy. What a beautiful man, this man was.

love this song by Jeff , but have only just been able to listen to it again after X Factor UK  absolutely destroyed it a few years ago  They are musical terrorists
Ikr? This one girl sang imagine like it was a pop song. I tried it will myself to not exist, it didn't work. Meanwhile all the teen girls that don't know shit about music are all like"OMG she's soooo good!!" Kill me now, please.

Why doesn't VEVO mention that the original song is by Leonard Cohen? This guy gets all the credit.. the original is a masterpiece.
You think that matters? What you said means cover, that's why they should mention it. And no, it's not a different song, lol. The MELODY is the same. he just made some new things on guitar.
+xswivelx11 In this case I would disagree. The strength of this song comes from the lyrics.
Merry Christmas, +Johmathan .B. Swifthugs beautiful!

God, what a talent Jeff was !!! Like father like son ! R.I.P. both... :(
So True .They played this song at the mall today. One of the future greats taken all to soon TY
I'm agnostic (which means i don't know there could very well be a god then again there could possibly be not one) but this song is beautiful i love everything about it the guitar the lyrics and the soul put into it,For you Christians god bless yaa and the atheist or agnostics try not to talk crap it'll just start a argument its one thing to say your opinion and its another to be a ass about it c:
Sorry too hear man, There can be some jerks on here i just say ignore em cause there's gonna be jerks in the world we just gotta accept it and respect peoples opinions and move on.
Hallelujah!! Jesus is Lord either you believe it or not..he died for you and me..nothing will change that. Hallelujah!!
Ha what's problem with your ears ?It's not on the tamper. suck
This is a song I'll always remember. I tasted beauty not knowing how much Id fall in love, hurting everyone on the way. It is a continuous flame that will never be seen or heard, but will never be extinguished. I never meant to hurt. And I never meant to fall in love as much as I did. I have watched your talents and beauty grow over the years, and cry inside for another day with you.....
This love will always be etched into my soul....

Good nightjeff Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah:
This song is very layered. It is using Biblical references and applying them to modern situations. So to say that it is not about religion at all is wrong.  Also this song is using biblical references and applying them to Modern Situations (such as jaded relationships), so to say it is purely religious is also wrong.  It is a layered song that is beautiful and fits anyone and everyone's life. Whether Catholic, Protestant, or Athiest... pretty much anyone that isn't Mormon (because they don't matter)
I totally agree although one could argue strongly that this song is entirely religious and about a man's jaded relationship with God or even go as far as to say realizing the lack of a God. Personally I'd go with the jaded relationship with a female bit.
Because god isn't real....Religion is a reason for people to believe they have to be good. That there is a light at the end. There is no light. That's your brain shutting down. And your eyes closing. Hallelujah
Yes it is the settlers' fault actually; the settlers built up a tolerance to diseases that the natives never had, so therefore they died at an alarming rate. The natives had diseases too that killed the settlers who had no tolerance to their diseases. There were instances of putting smallpox in blankets and giving the natives the blankets, but I cant pinpoint when that was. That might have been after the war for independence
+cary allen What I meant was, it's not their fault that they had brought over the diseases, and it's kind of even, because as you said, the natives had diseases, which didn't help. But I guess that's kind of a stupid statement... Idk :P
Those seeking answers to Jesus and Christianity should not listen to those typing in the comments, for their interpretation could be wrong (and judging from what I've seen most are) Open-mindedly listen to what the leader of our church, Pope Francis, says
1 Timothy 2:5 tells us "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. This verse negates the Catholic view of priestly intercession.
Homage to Leonard.  Excellent Jeff.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah: Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
my favorite song all time. LIsten to the last lines, Jonny. That's the Nietzschean way to live: as if you would be willing to do it all over and over and over again. Some things are worth the pain, they really are.  I read today about ICE-SAR, an Icelandic search-rescue (completely volunteer) organization. IT was begun in 1918 by the WOMEN of Iceland who were tired of seeing there sailor husbands dying in the treacherous waters. So they learned to rescue their men when it was necessary. That's pretty awesome, these are the women that females everywhere should be emulating. Iceland, by the way, has very little violent crime and the bookstores stay open til late because Icelanders love to read. I would love to live there. I definitely need to visit there because I need to understand how a benign regard for others thrives there.
+Laura Looch Do you mean the Leonard Cohen original version? I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah ____________ "Some things are worth the pain, they really are." The only thing in the universe that is worth the pain is the reduction and elimination of pain. To be humane, one must be pro-Death (no one should have the Choice to bring innocents here to suffer to please a world of violent, deceit-obsessed, emotional cannibals). "So they learned to rescue their men" Exactly. When faced with the option of taking care of themselves or rescuing their slaves from death, women chose to rescue their slaves. Whether or not this pleased their slaves was never discussed, as the best interests of slaves are never considered by their reduced owners. If there were suitable replacement men, those women would have their legs behind their heads as their husbands drowned to death (perhaps intentionally). Men who are unable to please women are coded to want to die to please. If only women were coded the same way but alas, Evolution's women were always humane so there was never any need to address the horror of women preying on their own young to pay for their decision to inflict artificial suffering on men for extortion.

Bisous. Amitiés.
Some people say it's about God, some say it's about love ... but most miss the point. It says right in the Bible that God IS love. Not gonna quote 'cause you can find it yourself if you want. The two terms, God and Love, are interchangeable. Hallelujah also means God, and God means love, therefore the three terms are synonymous with one another.
+Peyton Webb understood. I just get very tired of the excessively Christian who think that the products of their imagination are everybody's reality.
+Dwes Dwes Yeah I understand you too. I'm just stating a subjective opinion based on my own observations of the scriptures and what different words mean.
Religious or not, it doesn't matter who you are, this is a beautiful song.  I heard it playing on the radio at 5AM when I was driving home after the first girl I ever loved left on an airplane to lead the life she wanted across the country.  The song is about love, beauty, and the ability to truly understand and appreciate what is in front of you.
+Jason S i feel fr ya mate!!
Jeff Buckley does it best.  To soon gone not forgotton.
Is JONGHYUN somehow related to this song?
One song in his album will be called Hallelujah haha. And he once recommended this song too.

Still tops em all...
Giving everything the same priority perhaps. I think I mentally flip a coin if I come across two equals.
I wish Christian artists would stop rewriting the lyrics to this song.  This song is beautiful for many reasons, but chief among them is the way it paints the fragile juxtaposition of the sacred and the secular.  It is human, it is messy, it is full of passion, pain, doubt, so many things we all struggle with that just don't fit into the pristine spirituality that the Church sees fit to demand.  As a formerly Christian/currently Agnostic: Please guys, let us have this.  Let us be real.
Beautiful insights..thanks
No one could sings this like Jeff Buckley.
I like Matthew Schuler version.
The song was written by a Jewish Buddhist.
basically explains why its pretty fucking awesome.. full of soul and enlightenment.
Do you mean Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley himself?
I prefer Bon jovi's version more

Between waking up to the news from Pakistan and the follow-ups from Sydney (dying shielding a pregnant woman, jesus ...), there's really only one song with which to start the day. Let's do better, folks.

Baby I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor (you know) I used to live alone before I knew you And I've seen your flag on the marble arch and love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah #SOTD #HolidayKindOfShuffle
I love this song, which is atypical of my usual taste
Voyage garanti.
"Twisted Sister"... ;) .... ;) )....

One of my favorite songs of all time. So many good covers, but I'd really love to hear +John Legend cover this.
Wait, greatness is more than epic? God, it's so difficult to keep up with the lingo these days. This is probably my favorite song of all time. I did a whole post with a bunch of links to covers of it on Youtube:
