4th June 1997 : Jeff Buckley's body was discovered floating in the Mississippi River. Buckley had disappeared when swimming on May 29th in Wolf River Harbor, while wearing boots, all of his clothing, and singing the chorus of "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. A roadie in Buckley's band, had remained on shore. After moving a radio and guitar out of reach of the wake from a passing tugboat, he looked up to see that Buckley had vanished.  Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah From the album : Grace (1994)

Hallelujah By Jeff Buckley Well I've heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you?  Well it goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya She tied you to her kitchen chair And she broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah But baby I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor You know, I used to live alone before I knew ya And I've seen your flag on the marble arch And love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah Well there was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me do ya But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Songwriters: COHEN, LEONARD © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC For non-commercial use only. This song isn't praising Jesus or telling everyone to become Christian. The song is mostly about fading love that was once strong. It's not a song telling you that "God is the only way" or something like that. It's just about fading love between two people, and most people don't understand that.

+Matt Mezynski I think we should focus on what Buckley thought the song was about, because this is Buckley's rendition of the song. If it was Cohen, maybe it had to do with a more spiritual approach on the lyrics, but I don't think Buckley's interpretation is wrong. Now I'm no Jeff Buckley expert but whatever, I think we should leave the bitching about our opinions and just accept is a great rendition of the song.
Report spam or abuse
+LeCookieSir : Cohen's Jewish, so the song has nothing to do with Jesus. This song has about 50 more verses than what Buckley sang-I'm not exaggerating. Cohen's version was about spirituality, this one's about love. Personally, I like Buckley's far better. It's his interpretation which made it his own; you may as well argue that Marilyn Monroe's version of Happy Birthday sung to President Kennedy has the same meaning as when you sing it to a 3 year old. Different songs.

There is a Lake of Fire coming, and I want good things for you. God promises you and me everything!!!! You are going to turn down heaven and joy and peace and living with God-love? U can escape and live a wonderful existence with Yeshua God. Please, reconsider your position. I beg u. Go get educated. Judgement is coming on earth and after this life, but indidivuals such as Christians can be kept from it.

This video got me literally crying as i can totally relate to this man's pain.  Since childhood i really wanted to become a doctor just like my favorite teacher.  i focused in school really hard and earned medals and honors.  But i made bad decisions and a wrong turn somewhere and it cost me my ambition.  Life turned for the worse after my parents died in an accident, i rushed away from home to work in the city and left everything behind.  Unfortunately, i ended up lost in drugs and other petty crimes.  In 2009, i was rushed to the hospital for multiple stab wounds and another one in 2012 for a gunshot wound in the chest that penetrated a lung, both incidents were gang related violence.  After a successful operation and my condition stabilized, the head surgeon gave me a visit while i was on my way to recovery. At first i wasn't able to recognize her, then she revealed to me that she was my grade school teacher and she was really happy to see me all grown up and a chance to finally speak to me.   But her smile slowly dissipated as she told me that it really saddened her the first time she stitched me and my second trip to the operating table broke her heart in pieces,  she also confessed that a few months after my parents died, she tried to make an arrangement with my uncle that she will pay for my education and lodging so i will continue on my ambitions, but it was too late.  She later added that it made her feel like a failure because she saw a bright future in me for my discipline and diligence in school and not this criminal state i am in now.  It was at this emotional moment that i began to recall everything about her and it made me break down in tears, she was my inspiration and my goal was hers too.  And in a surprisingly swift move, she suddenly turned me on my side and then inserted a carrot in my butt.

Uwiódł ją, a ona zaszła w ciążę. Jako że jej mąż był wtedy na wojnie, Dawid kazał umieścić go na najniebezpieczniejszej pozycji. Gdy mężczyzna zg

Interesting thing, through history, when people insulted God with harsh words and other people too and killed in the name of God, they didn't and don't go to the prison, but when people praise God, want to read the Bible, they suddenly went to the prison and they were pursuited.

"Religious" there you go throwing that word out there. Like Christianity is the only religion in the world. Or even that people saying it's a holy word are even bothering you. Seriously if you're bothered by people expressing their faith (in a non-harmful manner) than you need a reality check. You can believe in anything you truly wish. But don't judge others for theirs because it's different.

*R.I.P ♥♬Jeff Buckley ♥♬ :'( *Jeffrey Scott "Jeff" Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), raised as Scott "Scottie" Moorhead, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. After a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material. After rebuffing much interest from record labels and his father's manager Herb Cohen, he signed with Columbia, recruited a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace, in 1994. Rolling Stone considered him one of the greatest singers of all time. Over the following two years, the band toured widely to promote the album, including concerts in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Australia. In 1996, they stopped touring and made sporadic attempts to record Buckley's second album in New York with Tom Verlaine as producer. In 1997, Buckley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to resume work on the album, to be titled My Sweetheart the Drunk, recording many four-track demos while also playing weekly solo shows at a local venue. On May 29, 1997, while awaiting the arrival of his band from New York, he drowned during a spontaneous evening swim, fully clothed, in the Mississippi River when he was caught in the wake of a passing boat; his body was found on June 4. Since his death, there have been many posthumous releases of his material, including a collection of four-track demos and studio recordings for his unfinished second album My Sweetheart the Drunk, expansions of Grace, and the Live at Sin-é EP. Chart success also came posthumously: with his famous cover of Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelujah" he attained his first No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs in March 2008 and reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart that December. Buckley and his work remain popular and are regularly featured in "greatest" lists in the music press.. *WE LOVE YOU Jeff  !! T-T <3

The word Hallelujah means Praise God or Praise the Lord.. so when he sings it he is praising God.. maybe who ever wrote this song did not realize what the word meant.. it might be about a girl.. but God is being praised when you say Hallelujah.. it means nothing else but that.. if you dont believe me.. then look up its meaning :) peace.

and by the way.. we will ALL die of something..even you.. so you better be careful what you wish for on other people.. i have learned this the hard way.. and if i die of cancer and you felt nothing for wishing me that.. i feel really really bad for you.. what kind of human being are you?? that is just horrible.. i really really feel bad for you .. you must be one miserable human being to wish such horrible things on people you do not even know.. so so sad. i hope you get better.. i really do.. before its to late for you. wake up and see the truth.
Report spam or abuse
+Catherine Beavers It does, but poetry is about using words to create new meanings and feelings. I'm afraid youre taking the word a little too literally here especially in light of the one's that precede it. The line is actually "a cold and broken Hallelujah" and the verses bespoke a failed relationship. It's actually a 'prayer' to love - It's refuge, and pain it can cause.
