Archery - Fast Shooting (Murmansk)

a dagger technique Seregedel's school Initially I named this technique "kinzhalnaya" (Adjective from a word "kinzhal"(dagger)) because a dagger it is possible to beat faster than a sword, but,...

slow as balls. nothing special here. now lars anderson can shoot

+Pavol Petik I agree completely. I personally don't know the guy but in some archery circles it is said he has some kind of mental disorder.

To all the people bashing archery with gun comments, you sound ignorant. Guns are obviously more lethal and hands down better for defense. Archery is a hobby just like shooting a gun at the gun range. It takes more practice to perfect and some people enjoy it. Like bow fishing or bow hunting, the added challenge can make it more interesting and offer a better feeling of a reward. Another big difference for archery is that arrows are reusable making them much cheaper than ammo which gives you more time to practice for less cash.

+Alex Lira As an archer and firearms enthusiast myself as well, proper maintenance on any gun that could outperform a bow's fire rate and accuracy, ie. an automatic, is very difficult. For example the Ar-15's bolt carrier group. The powder residue coming through the gas tube simply blasts all over the inside of the gun getting into every nook and crannie. To properly clean an Ar-15 would take well over an hour and many times to master. The "easy maintenance" you speak of is not sufficient for a gun to last unless of course you are speaking only of revolvers or manual loading guns. Also your second paragraph forgets that all of those forces you are referring to are the same on a firearm. This is referred to as barrel harmonics and is the main reason for the accurate limitations of any firearm beyond  200 meters or so. This is why freefloat barrels are so sought after by marksmen. As for user operation, in my experience bows and guns have a very similar learning curve.

"Why use bows when we have guns." - Some just prefer to use bows (some just get more of a kick out of bows than guns). - Many countries (example i live in Australia) you need licences for guns and not for bows.  - In many cases it is cheaper to buy a bow - Easier to manage - Quiet for hunting - Reusable ammo

+T'uKeyan I promise you guns have a much larger kick than bows.

I certainly know a pistol is less accurate, for me, than a compound bow. At anything within 50 yards, and probably even further.

+Jake J. Rogers I hope you're not a dickless faggot with a rectal prolapse who hypocritically postures enlightenment.  Since you're really stupid I'll explain... You said, "What Lars does is the equivalent of martial artists breaking stacks of bricks with a single blow." This woman is a target shooter.  She's breaking bricks.  It's as stationary and immobile as you can possible get.  The problem is you still won't be able to understand this.

Just in case you buy into the Lars Anderson archery thing as anything more than a trick shooter making ridiculous claims, here is an actual speed shooter, and you'll note that nocking the arrow on the left is no slower than on the right. Plus, she does it whilst moving around too. This video is something like three years old, she is the student*, and is being trained in a known methodology/philosophy. *I believe; looking at the other videos on the channel

TheFloWarrior. They're a type of arrow called a "self nocking" arrow, which means that the nock is part of the arrow shaft rather than a separate piece. She can probably feel the orientation of the arrow.

And you're engaging in Homophobia +ConfrontationalRealist. Are you 13? Or is it that you're so insecure in your own sexuality that you think that's some sort of insult?

Archery is an art, it is not replaceable by guns. Why don't we just replace talking with texting? Just because people have newer things does not mean they are replacements. Guns are louder, more hazardous, less personal and less beautiful. I am not saying that bows are better than guns, although to me, they are preferable in terms of what should be used, unless you are excited about just killing things. If you are concerned with the efficiency of just killing things, then guns have many advantages. But if you are actually interested in weapon use as an art and hobby, guns have basically no advantage. Expensive expendable ammunition, very high chance of underestimating penetration power, resulting in increased hazards. Common ricocheting, loud banging noise and large recoil, very high mass production and therefore, more uniform and less unique designs. Bows have none of these properties. I am an archer, My birth name is Robin Hood, and I respect archery for the skill it requires. If weapons are to be used as an art and hobby, I think increased skill requirement should be a welcome quality.

Looks like a reverse European 3-finger draw - the hand stays on the left side of the sting with the thumb pointing down. Note that the string is released to the right while the arrow passes around the bow to the left. It doesn't seem to hurt her accuracy much, so I guess that works too. :)

That's not how you fast shoot. She is any even aiming
Report spam or abuse
Well, maybe she it's not even aiming but it's putting every single arrow through a 3" hole on the blanket. Look carefuly the last row of shots and you will see the arrows falling BEHIND the blanket, not in front of it.

This always amazes me. This would be impossible with a compound bow. That's why in the Zombie Apocalypse you use a recurve, long bow, or short bow. For range a long bow, recurve, for speed, short bow, recurve. Every bow has a use. It's like taking a hand gun to an assault rifle fight! Note: Compound are for hunting and target shooting, not fast shooting. If someone could use a compound that way, i'd love to see it...lol
Report spam or abuse
+Ahman Millener look up the Genesis bow it has zero let off and any bowfishing compound bow like the PSE wave and others also have zero let off made for snap shooting. I don't know what bow your talking about as I've never heard of any bows exploding as that would be highly unlikely. Do provide sources on this claim.

+Leon Wilcox REALLY! That's a kids bow. And no it's not that powerful. I do believe the pull was 35 lbs max. and a holding weight of 10 - 20 lbs. That's not realistic for anyone but kids. Sure adults can use it, but that bows design is a continued pull, it still has a hold weight. It's not a true let-off. It still has a hold weight and a true let-off (dry-fire) wouldn't break the bow.

Report spam or abuse
+Kami Nana It may happen tho. Maybe it won't be exactly like in most zombie movies, but it is indeed possible that humans get infected by something that forces us to behave in a very aggressive and violent way. There is a parasite that can only reproduce in felines, so it can target rats and make them attracted to cat pee. Literary forcing them to death. Humans can also get infected by this and it doesn't do much to us, but a study showed that those infected actually enjoyed the smell of cat pee. If a parasite can alter our brain to that extent, it can alter it to make us behave like zombies as well. So never rule out the possibility of a "zombie apocalypse". If it ever do happen tho and we meet, we can migrate teams if your team is resourceful. That is my minimum criteria otherwise I just end up weakening my own team. To get rid of weak links is always up for discussion tho.

Theres lots comparing against "guns" and I cannot decide whom sounds the most ignorant, but the race is clearly on with no lack of strong contenders... :) I have trained and competed with most ballistic sports equipment, been in the army, most of my friends compete in various "shooting" sports and so forth. Having decades of experience I have never come across so many assertions that I never ever heard before as in this expert thread. It is actually quite amusing to follow the expert opinions, btw many thanks for the entertainment. A few of the things I would like the experts to develop, 1/ How come you think it takes more skill to shoot a bow than a pistol, and that a recurve takes even more skill? (Practicing all above, I always felt that the recurve having much less weight fully drawn is much easier to hold longer and aim. And pistol shooting would clearly be the hardest skill of all three to master for several obvious reasons, I been trying for over 3 decades to do so... but what do I know) 2/ Please elaborate on why real bows would be safer and more suitable for children than BB rifles? (A bow has a surprising stopping power foremost due to the fact that an arrow is extremely much heavier than a BB. Arrows prolly at least or even more as dangerous as a bullit fired from a REAL gun. In real life I know a lot of nasty shit accidents happened with bows with severe damage or worse outcome. I do not think I can count the eyesights that got damaged from derailed recurve bowstrings. On the other hand not much to mention from BBs other than they sting if a kid caps you in the ass. Real sidearms/rifles disqualifies due to literally no accidents because of the rigorous safety protocols at play. But this is just from personal experiences and pretty deep knowledge in Swedens statistics.) 3/ Guns slaps you in the face? (I love these hilarious expert opinions, they sure put a smile to my face. If you manage to fire a rifle or a pistol and it slaps you in the face, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG LIKE YOU GET TO BE A HERO ON A MOTIVATIONAL POSTER SCALE. You should either apply for a job at Monthy Pythons flying circus or apply for a special olympics grant.) I would really love the authors of these and more expert opinions to elaborate on their funny teachings. For now, I have to read some more funny shit :)) But seriously, join some clubs and enjoy all of them and more - archery (bows, recurves, crossbows) pistol club, rifle club, air shooting clubs whatever and have fun, meet friends, and get educated instead of blabbing hilarious stupidities. ;)

It's pretty hard to get shot by an arrow from a bow without it being intentionally nocked, drawn and loosed by someone.  Guns have killed many by just getting bumped, dropped or even babies misusing them for toys (read the news).  Yes, you can stab someone with or fall on an arrow but, it's hard for someone across a room--or a mile away--to get hit by an arrow that isn't shot intentionally.  Of course, someone with wild aim, or goofing around with a bow and arrow,,, well....   You can get killed by a BB to the eye--just like with an arrow, though, yes, an arrow doesn't have to be in the eye to be lethal.  You're correct that a pistol is likely harder to master than a bow and arrow.  Old Army .45s recoil so hard, it's iffy if many could hit a barn with one--even while leaning on the barn!
Report spam or abuse
+Englishkin I suppose we are dealing with some geographical differencies here. No babies are allowed to use loaded firearms as toys in Sweden. Where are you from again? Bullet or arrow astray, I cant see a difference? Regarding dropping and bumping guns... Firearms are licensed here and can only be loaded and used at ranges, bows are free from license excepting crossbows. Statistically it is virtually unheard of a firearm projectile going astray and do personal damage in Sweden. Bows are unfortunately a whole other matter I am afraid. I can link the statistics if you like or you can just google it. Otherwise we seem to agree on most stuff, I did not know you could be killed by a BB though? You seem well informed on the old army .45s, I have been trying to master one for many a years now. Even put up some videos on the tube of my humble efforts. I think the most important thing is to be safe and use our short time on earth to have as much fun as possible and allow others to do the same. Wish you a wonderful day mates :)

This style is more of a horse archery, without the horse. Takes lot of practice to load the arrow and do not use more than #35 bow because you will hurt your muscles. Best bows are the Hungarian, Mongolian type reflex bows. I can recommend Kassai or Grozer, but there are other good bow makers. If you like to see some horse archery then search for Kassai...

Maybe because I am getting a lot older and have more traditional views on archery, but I can't seem to figure out why so many people hold trick shooting, speed shooting, etc. in such high regard. Anyone that's used a bow that properly matches their strength knows it's not that easy to just keep pulling it back. As I got stronger, I simply added more weight. It never really occurred to me to drop down half of what my potential was so I could loose arrows at targets faster.  I dunno, the most enjoyable part of archery for me was spending time with family during practice or during hunting trips. The olympic-esque side of archery never appealed to me.

people pull back half way for practical purposes.
Report spam or abuse
how is she stringing the arrow so quick? is it particular arrows? or just technique?
Report spam or abuse
It would be both technique and particular arrows. She rolls the ends of her arrows to find the nock by feel with her thumb and index finger.  She keeps her hand inverted with her palm facing outward.  This gives her speed keeping thumb and index finger in same position holding the arrow.  The middle and ring fingers help with the draw.  Notice the arrows have a lot of space between the nock and fletching.  Arrows may be handmade to do that technique.
