Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) (Video)

by kennylavish • 4,701,532 views

FROM THE ALBUM "MECCA AND THE SOUL BROTHER" (1992).

At the end of the day, after all of my years diving deep into hip hop in all its forms, being one of the biggest pieces of my life, this is still to me the greatest hip hop song of all time.

+frogblunt Yo, it was this and Pac's Brenda's Got A Baby that sparked my life-long love of hip hop. Not to mention showed me a whole different world that frankly, at the age of 13, I didn't know existed. Glad to know I was initiated by the best!

Man this shit makes me cry. Dope!!!

Same.... Ever time I hear it. I don't even feel like a punk saying neither lol. Nah for real, it's the whole journey of the song, deep!

+nicky onyemere Rap was so dark and deep during this period. A big change from the 70's and 80's, which is what I was raised on. Still some good stuff though. Touched a lot of souls back then, including mine. Peace to my brutha's.

All these kids on here saying "I was born in 98" or whatever and "I wish I lived in this era", it's up to y'all to keep this shit here alive, the more you buy that new shit, that fake shit, the more you support that, then the more blessings like this right here die, you gotta grab that brass ring and pass this torch, real hip hop is on serious life support, look around, something's gotta give quick

+Golden Lynx get the fuck out of here with that shit music. It shouldn't even be mentioned in this video

To Pimp a Butterfly is "shit music"? It's obvious you haven't heard it.

im 19 , and i hate the fact i didnt get to live through this era of hip hop . I listen to this type of shit everyday of my life on my fuckin iphone . I could only imagine listening to all these old songs when they first dropped on radio , tapes , vinyl , etc .

+TruDeinoz True that man I was born in 92' I still remember having to scrape together for an album and you better hope you chose right cause that's all you had to listen to for a while. I liked this music when I was little. I heard a outkast song the other day that I hadn't heard since it came out in 96' or whatever and it sent chills down my spine. It's cool being so young now but just old enough to remember a time before phones and computers. But fuck that shit. We live in a futuristic fairytale compared to a few years ago and are very lucky to live the way we do.

With out a doubt Kid U B Known! know what I mean. Mad Track of da Old Skwel well the early nineties to B exact. but what's ill is that its still remains Fresh!
Report spam or abuse
Its kind of impossible for people of this era to understand today's hip-hop of hustler ethics and overblown egos. But that's the main point, it is easier to get you "feeling some type of way" then "thinking some type of way" for marketing purpose of course.

All you young people need to stop dissing your own generation because you have a great opportunity to take it further. All of us older people need to realize that hip hop has done its job for the purpose it was intended. Let's move on to create the next level of music now. There is a generational change in music every 10 years. It seems like it's always easier for the present generation to appreciate preceding generations of music than it is for the older generations to appreciate the current generations' style of music and feel in it what the present generation feels in it.

Everytime I listen to this jam it stirs me.. like its the first time hearing it. The lyrics.... leave me speechless... This song was dear to me because I lost my moms as a freshman in high school. Life was hard afterwards but we made it... This song represents real hip hop .. if this doesn't move you.. you dont have a soul...

A TRUE Classic-itself Reminiscent of  the Motown Classic "Poppa Was a Rolling Stone" by the Temptations. THIS Song, "Mind Playing Tricks" by the Geto Boyz, and "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Nuttin ever Better in Hip Hop.
