It doesn't matter if you prefer Windows, Mac or Linux. If you like home computers, this is probably one of the most important moments of all time

This occurred 31 years ago and I get chills and teary eyed seeing the smooth text roll across the screen.   I started with a Sinclair ZX-81 in 1981 or so...8k memory with 8k expansion using a b&w tv and audio tape recorder to save/load programs.  I was 10.   In 1988 - three days after graduating high school I landed a on the job training Computer Operator job at a database management company.   If you didn't live through these times...if you didn't experience this from the get go...you will probably never understand.   This video ranks in my book as one of the most inspiring moments in the realm of personal computer history.   Steve Jobs later said of this moment - outside of the birth of his children - this was his proudest moment ever.  RIP Steve - Apple forever changed my life and landed me in a career which I enjoy with passion to this day.    Think Different.   RIP Steve.

Why are there a number of videos about Steve Jobs on YouTube whose title claims to have been lost? If they had been lost, who found them? Where did they find them? How did they get lost in the first place?

Macintosh, insanely great! That has to be a T shirt. It's weird to see how actively Jobs was building his cult of personality from the beginning. Many of the jokes are self-referential and in the case of the computer speaking, slightly deifying. So this is how it works?

This is some cool stuff thanks for uploading.    R.I.P Steve.

I can't believe that people are like, "OMG why are people clapping for this it's in like 14p." I hope you all realize that this was a revolution for the time - this was 31 years ago. Also, for all the people who suck Windows' dick and say that PC is millions times better than Mac - the Mac shaped your PC of today, essentially. The upgraded version today is also an amazing machine. (Yes, I do use and love Windows, but that is the truth.)

+Carbon G3 As the diehard PC guy I am Every Mac which was powered by a PPC chip was more powerful and overall better than the equivalent PC from its time, except maybe in gaming.

+Steven L I've got a bunch of life goals but I love reading about how people got to where they were successful. In Jobs' case it was a right time in history, right community to grow up in, right circumstances he was raised in / adopted into and of course right friend in Steve Wozniak.

+Lemon Lorraine I'm reading a book by Jay Elliot about the leadership of Steve Jobs and it's more than inspiring! Actually, the speech in the Stanford University makes you wanna eat the whole world!

people are like if you need home and buisness computers, think of mac if you need gaming computers, think of pc/windows if you like seeing shitty computers, think of linux, chromebook, and soloris (lol)

If you don't like apple, you should.. They're the home of Computers, they're the home of touch screens..They're the home of apple... So give them a bit respect since if there was no Steve Jobs, you wouldn't have your crappy android devices and crappy windows computers..

So Apple selling obsolete and restrictive technology at exorbitant prices is nothing new.

There was an awful lot of female voices howling and cheering in that crowd. I certainly don't remember a lot of tech geek girls back then. Did Apple pay a bunch of female extras to sex up the volume in that crowd?

It is funny how the public subsidized the building of computers and the internet for decades through their tax dollars, and when they were finally developed, opportunists like Steve Jobs and Bill gates came along to privatize and personalize these technologies for personal profit, by selling them to the same people who helped pay to develop them!  Great bargain, some role models they are.

Apple have everything overpriced! An Apple MacBook Air 13 (i5 1.6-2.7 GHz,SSD:128GB,Ram:4GB,with integrated video card)costs 1392 dollars, and with 684 dollars you can buy an Acer Aspire E5-572G (it have i5 2.6-3.2 GHz,HDD:1TB,RAM:4GB,Video Card : Nividia GeForce GT940M with 2GB) and it is even more powerfull than Apple MacBook Air

And a lot of people fell for it. Why would anyone who knows anything about computers use a Mac?
Report spam or abuse
+AndroidDoctorr I'm a software developer and I use a Mac. More-so I'm a Windows software developer. OS X is a better operating system in my professional opinion, and the build quality of Macs are phenomenal and bar none to anything else out there. That's why I use a Mac.

Apple is the american religious cult and Steve Jobs was his long time leader. The same as religious fanatic who invented christian fundamentalist cult of Mormons - Joseph Smith, Steve Jobs invented the cult of Apple. His religious folowers claim that Apple computers are invincible and that Steve Jobs was a prophet. Today in 21. century, in time of huge competition on global IT market, and where big corporations like HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, Yota Devices, Huawei, Prestigio and other manufacturers of personal computers, tablets and mobile phones are producing adequate or even better products, Apple fundamentalists still claim that their products are superior to anything on this planet, and that they are ready to die for people who run Apple cult.

Stephan Wozniak designed this, Jobs just the front man for Wozniak who was more interested in the hardware and software than marketing.
Report spam or abuse
He did not in fact design this as he didn't even work in the Mac division. The first he ever saw of it was a prototype about a week before this announcement. Wozniak designed the apple one and apple II and also worked as a normal engineer at Apple since.

+Howard Selby Wozniak did not design the Mac. He designed some of the previous Apple computers, but not the Mac.

to think a cheap smartphone has more processing power and more advanced capabilities from this relic they're gawking at at the time.
Report spam or abuse
I bet my iPod 4 has more power than that Mac
Report spam or abuse
Why is there still a debate like this? If you want a powerful thin machine buy a surface pro 3. If you want a insanely powerful thick machine buy the Alienware 19. If you want a desktop ask for the windows 8 and say please. If you want quality build with power and thinness buy the ultra book or zenbook macs can go flee. Microsoft has taken over every good computer while Steve jobs designs simple average power machines with good graphics and nice outside it just looks nice. Just wait till there are Apple consoles and apple furniture and apple transportation and Google collides with them and everyone is technology it's crazy how Apple wants to be the best at everything tablets its fare to say Apple does make the best phones probably but again if you like more control and customization Samsung but I think phones by them are good. That my friend is all Apple can do

+epickid 69iii The problem with all your solutions is that Windows is an absolutely horrible, buggy, UI-unfriendly, insecure, spyware-ridden, annoying-you-every-fucking -minute of an OS that is only good for gaming at this point. If you want to get real work done without being interrupted with crap like forced-reboots, you need a Mac.
Report spam or abuse
Mine does not have forced reboots and people act like macs are perfect my grandma just got a mac book pro she got a problem with it and had to buy it brand new again

My husband came home from work in 1984 one day and said everyone in his department was being given a Macintosh computer. I said, what do we do with it? Thirty years later I am still on an Apple Mac  and Apple products and haven't changed.  Yes Macs are expensive, but Yes they do last longer than some others that I hear about  [even though after 3 years, Apple thinks it is old and at times is somewhat unsupportive :(  ] No they are not perfect and I have issues now and then with the software "Geeks" who make some good and some bad changes. BUT I still love MAC, and I wish I had the original Mac..bad mistake to get rid of it!!
Report spam or abuse
Exactly. It just works, period. I spend 1/4 of the time searching for solutions on a mac that I did on a PC.

+Alexlaleche machintosh programmer much more get "appreciate" with the program they made , that's why people use machintosh i think , like my friends and me , we are programmer , we make program for machintosh using the C# and no one crack it because the security (before this we make for windows & and got cracked ) , we really happy with that , because programmer is a human too :)

If i would have been a little kid in 1984 and i would get that computer for christmas then i wouldv been very happy. Looking at your profile picture i can see u arent very old... So im not gonna call you a dumass for now.

haha thanks but.. I can not be nostalgic about this old-TV-Rip-off  because I barely existed by that period so I don't find no interest in that big-box-thingy.. Despite it seemed like a technical breakthrough at that period I just don't like it and probably wouldn't if I was alive by then. By the way; sorry for tarrying in answering. +thomasotje10
